Mark's robot would not be able to solve this with its current software as it assumes a puzzle that is a regular rectangular coordinate grid of which this is not. Also this puzzle is circular and the robot only understands rectangles. Writing a program to solve this is immensely more difficult I would imagine.

Hey Karen & Karenfans - I have a puzzle question for you. When I was younger, early 90s - I had a jigsaw puzzle called 'The Worlds Hardest Jigsaw Puzzle' - and the gimmick was that it was a doublesided puzzle and each piece had a small square taken out. On one side of the puzzle was a traditional picture (what it was completely eludes me) -- but the other side of the puzzle was all clock-faces and the squares were the faces of the clocks.
Supposedly you could do the puzzle both ways, the "easy" way was doing the picture, but the hard way was figuring out the pattern of clockfaces. I've hunted for this puzzle, and I really thought it was made by Buffalo since they have the 'WORLDS HARDEST' line with double-sided puzzles, but I haven't been able to find this particular quirk of pieces missing from inside the traditional pieces.
Anyway, if you have a link for some place I could look or maybe even you've heard of it - I'd be super thankful. Thank you for the potential help and all of your great content. 🙂

Karen, I discovered your channel during COVID-19 lockdown. I don't do puzzles myself these days, but watching you reminds me of my late father, who often had a puzzle underway at one end of the dining table. If there was a big family dinner, we would help him move the puzzle-in-progress off the table -- carefully. We weren't a speed puzzling family -- more of a wander by, place a few pieces, and move on group. When he died, my brothers and I took huge numbers of puzzles to Goodwill. Watching you brings back fond memories.

I love puzzles that lock together; I'm not a speed-puzzler, so that aspect is not an issue. That said, I think I would like to seek out the 60th anniversary puzzle - you've convinced me to try an "impossible" type puzzle. I have enjoyed every Springbok puzzle I've done; granted, most of them are vintage, either at the time (80s onward) or finding vintage puzzles now. I guess it's' time to try some new Springboks as well 🤔 Thanks for the tip about rectangle/square vs round ☺️

  • @jcortese3300

I don't think I'll be doing the 60th anniversary Springbok, but I do like their puzzles -- especially the round one with all the weird-flavored soda bottles in it. (It's called "Carbonated Colors," and it's really fun.). My favorite images include gradients achieved with actual objects, not blank color fields, and landscapes with bright, colorful gradient skies, like sunsets.
I'm also glad you addressed the loose piece fit of the modern Springbok round puzzles; people sometimes hear of how robust they were in the past and can be disappointed when they get a modern one. I'm also VERY pleased to hear that this isn't the case for their rectangular puzzles! I may pick one up now, knowing that those ones still have that nice strong fit.
ETA: I'm also pleased that you were able to be sponsored by Springbok! Sometimes companies can make people sign exclusivity deals, and I think it reflects well on Ravensburger that they didn't do that.

The funny thing for me is that _most_ of the jigsaw puzzles I've solved in my life have been theirs. It totally spoiled me on most other brands! "What do you _mean_ all the pieces fit a nice neat grid? What fun is _that_ going to be?!" I don't mind watching you do "inaccessible" puzzles. They're interesting to see and not ones I'd necessarily do myself (looking right at you, pink Krypt puzzle!). Plus, I mean, you get so many "freebies" from the puzzle companies, I would never be able to catch up, even if I had 60 years to do so! So, you keep doing you...

I found two vintage Puzzlers at the thrift store and have been scared to try them ! However, watching you do them in this video (I saw your previous Puzzler videos), gives me some hope !

Our family had 3...? Springbok puzzles when I was a really little kid, but then I'm just a few years older than the company itself. I remember we had one that was a medieval painting of the nativity, one I can't remember and my favorite that was zillions of butterflies. The puzzle stayed on the table in this odd nook off our livingroom and we'd just work on it whenever. It's how the puzzler bug bit me. :) My husband and I now have a similar table that always has an on-going puzzle, now almost always Ravensburger. But this video has me itching for trying a Springbok.

I’d like Springbok to re-issue the Prismatic puzzle behind you, ever since your video I’ve been coveting it, the colours are so good together. If Springbok ask you for ideas, please recommend that one!

What struck me most about the 60s version was the colours! There was this very distinct light blue and light purple shade added to the original colours and I think that was a very interesting choice and further making it more fun for probably a lot of puzzlers

I would love it if Springbok reissued another version of the Prismagic puzzle. I just finished the first one and it is gorgeous. It would be super cool to get an updated edition of it.

Hello Karen - great video as always. I believe that the puzzle that was taken back to America was made here in good old Blighty by Waddington's. In fact the images of some early circular Springboks at 16:15 show a few puzzles which were available in the UK through Waddington's and the artwork probably originated here too.

60! Bravo on another great video. Your work always just makes me happy - thanks for doing what you do. I am a big fan of the retro geometric patterns on many of the vintage Springbok puzzles, so it would be great to see them revisit them a little more.

My family had a favorite puzzle that we returned to year after year as I was growing up. Verticleville was a Springbok puzzle that I always found more details every time I did the puzzle. Great memories! (I thought puzzles with a regular grid of standard pieces were weird the first time I encountered one!)

I want Springbok to bring back that specific mandala puzzle that's on your shelf so badly! It hurts my heart that it's a vintage rarity. It's so beautiful. I laughed when you said that they suggested to do a more "accessible puzzle for average people" LOL!
I'm attracted to novelty and rarity, so I adore that that's what you tend to focus on more. It's soooo satisfying seeing all,of the Puzzler puzzles lined up like that! And it's even more perfect being on your desk :) Keep being you, Karen! The criticisms may be valid but it sets you apart from the rest and I eat it up every time.
I think my favorite of the four is the 60's puzzle if only for the colors, while the 2000's version would be my favorite as a puzzle in it's entirety. Also the mailing card ad that came in the box was too nostalgic 😂

My work has been putting puzzles out in the break room for people to work on (I’m the only one that does, and I’m still doing them fast enough that they can’t keep up, so I’m getting repeats), and right now it’s the Bboldin Mosaic puzzle (look it up if you want to see how hard it is [very]). With these kinds of puzzles, I fully agree that staying organized is the most important thing

I don't know how people don't know that Springbok is still in business. I see their puzzles in stores often...and I'm in Canada! I am in a couple puzzle groups on Facebook and there seems to be a consensus among members that current Springbok pieces are not as high quality and don't hold together as firmly as onesfrom the first 40 years or so. I have a couple more modern ones that I haven't got to yet so I"ll have wait and see for myself. I still enjoy them either way. Here's hoping they make it to another 60 years!

Not gonna lie, I've seen so many videos of yours with vintage springbok puzzles that I thought the company didn't exist anymore. Good to see they are still going strong.
Even though the 60th anniversary has more colors, at least on video, it looks very close in color to the original one, but the colors from the 2000's are like a breath of fresh air, it looks amazing.
