  • READ ME~ Alright, so technically I only get to Russia at the very end of this vlog, but I thought it would be remiss of me not to show you the reality of what it takes for someone with anxiety to travel, and some problems that can pop up along the way that aren't even anxiety related. We have to admit... I was having trouble right out of the gate.

    I deal with a lot of the same anxieties as you do, and watching your videos, hearing you describe the same things I'm going through, makes me feel so much better. It reminds me that I'm really not alone. I just want to thank you for making these videos, they mean a lot to me. 💜

      glad to hear! not glad to hear you're experiencing it too but i'm glad talking about my experience helps, lol. there are a lot of us, so even though it's scary and in the moment it feels like it's just us on our own, we're far from alone!

    Again...super proud of you girl!💪 I like that you capture your panic attacks because people don't realize that you can have them in private or while your out and about. I too get the numbing sensation with my lips during a big one. Like it gets hard to open and close too talk. And it feels like people can see my lips being weird, but my mom said they look fine when I'm talking..... it's the weirdest symptom.

      Jade C. Thanks! But yeah, I’ve noticed my jaw seems to lock up and it doesn’t feel right when I try to talk. It’s like a rusty hinge or something, you can tell a bit in this video with the way my speech is. That plus the numbness of my tongue and lips feels super weird and just adds to the disorientation of it all. It’s the worst.

      I remember telling my primary care doctor that my lips would get numb and my hands would tingle. He said you just want pills I felt so defeated.

      i'm sorry martha, that's really disheartening. i personally have not had luck with primary care doctors when it comes to my mental health. if you're not already seeing a mental health professional, i hope you can get ahold of a good one who can help you!

    You are a strong independent person Kali. You have moved to the other side of the planet and solo traveled to so many countries despite your anxiety. You should be proud of yourself.
    Don’t worry about your language skills. Honestly from my experience, there is so much stigma around mental health in China, I feel like you would be more disappointed in people if you know enough Chinese to talk about these issues.
    BTW have you talk to that other American in your campus since you last tweeted about your first encounter?

    • @kaliwallaceart
      @kaliwallaceart  5 лет назад

      thank you, i try to remember this on the bad days when i feel like i'm useless or not accomplishing anything. and as far as the mental health in china thing goes, you're probably right, at least on a large scale level. on an individual level, it's case by case... i've had a friend i opened up to despite our language barrier be really understanding and open up about her own battle with depression, but i've also had a chinese friend tell me that chinese people aren't depressed because they work and stay busy so there isn't enough time for them to feel badly..... and another one told me it's all because i'm a virgo. it seems like talking about it is hit or miss, lol.
      and no update, i haven't see the other american since that one time! BUT he did tell the guy from the uk that he saw me. like.... you saw me stop and say hello and you said nothing and basically ignored me, but you tell the other english-speaker on campus you saw me? it seems weird.

    I think you have DPDR symptoms during panic attacks. The Anxiety Ninja channel has great videos on how to overcome this.

      @kaliwallaceart  5 лет назад

      yeah, i'd say you're probably right. it pretty much all passes once the anxiety eases a bit, though. i've stumbled onto his videos before, i'll see if there's anything that relates to those feelings as they associate with panic attacks rather than the whole disorder. thanks!
