I'll give you an example: Beyonce's vocals in Coldplay's "Hymn for the Weekend" in which her name was nowhere to be displayed in the song title at all, and her voice was more prominent than Lana's is in this song. Humbling would be her not wanting credit for doing backing vocals, but here we are...

I thought we were speaking music. In therms of visuals, I'll agree that beyonce isn't the best example when it comes to being subltle.

I just want to say to all the rude salty people in the comments fighting over Lana & Chan stfu and enjoy the music! I'll be honest, I'm a die hard Lana fan and I hadn't even heard Cat Power before this but I really enjoyed the song. I actually like how Lana has just a subtle yet complementary part in the song, she isn't stealing the show - and she doesn't need to as this is Cat Power's song after all. Its upsetting that theres people on both 'sides' (not really sides though cause this isn't a competition) who want to disrespect an artist and their fans. Its clear Lana and Chan respect each others music otherwise why would they collaborate? Music should bring people closer together rather than cause feuds, do you really think either of them would be happy with their fans bitching over one another? They've created a beautiful piece of music and we should focus on that rather than argue about which is more authentic or talented or which is doing 'charity' by collaborating with the other. If you have a problem with the song, just don't listen to it instead of filling up the comments with your negative energy.

Lana fans search youtube how gorgeous Cat is as a youngster... Lana meeting her is a very good thing. Transitioning into adulthood, staying healthy and sober are all issues they have in common. Also Cat Power had her years of wild and crazy behavior she was enabled because she was young and beautiful... she's still beautiful. I'm so glad she's still here.

This is GREAT. Chan sounds and looks wonderful. Glad she's finally there :) As for the people whining about Lana, this song was written awhile ago, and Chan LET her sing on it (Cat Power is one of her idols)...who wouldn't want to be on their idol's song. It's not a PR stunt, they're actually acquainted (they went on tour together recently too)...so brush up on your history. Cat Power has been a force of nature since before Lizzie Grant changed her name to Lana Del Rey.

everyone’s complaining that lana del rey isn’t playing some larger presence than Cat Power as if this isn’t a Cat Power song lmaooo.
I'm actually just annoyed that they felt the need to slap her name on the track title when it's just a backing vocal. She couldn't even be in the video (hell even a poster of her in the background would have made sense). Cat Power is great on their own; I didn't expect them to have to resort to cheesy marketing tactics for RUclips views. This is a great Cat Power song and Lana Del Rey's vocals hardly even really add much to it-it would have been better to not even credit her and have it be a fun story to tell on tour or Easter egg for listeners with discerning ears.
As you can see from the comments, it's a bunch of people obsessed with Lana gushing over ... like 20 seconds of echoes. I love both artists but the sycophantism is a bit embarrassing.
evil bunny features don’t necessarily mean they make a vocal presence. for example, the artist SOPHIE has making many rounds in the avant/art pop genre lately and electronic genre, but she never makes physical vocal presences. it is usually her producing the song, or adding in her own instrumentals. sometimes it may even be there just by a small piece of the instrumental. another good example would be janelle monae’s new song “pynk ft. grimes.” while i personally dislike grimes, she sets a good example that feature could just mean production/inspiration/instrumental! sorry this was long. i just thought it’d be important to clarify.
Steven Cooper i think you make an excellent point, and you better put across the frustration than most people in the comments section! i agree with you on that, but we also do not fully know what process went into the song. perhaps lana had some work in the instrumental or production? i haven’t done the research, maybe it’s purely backing vocals. or it could possibly be that lana wanted to be featured, or it had something to do with the label? (chan has, for songwriting purposes, had to cut off her label/managers before as they interfered or tried to control her creative processes.) although i think you make a really fair point, and a good one! im glad you pointed that out. as someone who loves Moon Pix and You Are Free to death, i was just frustrated by people trying to drag Chan in the comments, as she’s been in the game/has put out two transcendental albums in the late 90s/early 2000s. i 100% understand your viewpoint though! valid!

Yes, she's in the song but so are a lot of other musicians presumably, none of which are listed in the song's title. In music, film and TV the term "featuring" has come to indicate that the person has a notable or significant role in the performance. In music, with vocalists, it's usually that the performer gets their own verse or is prominent on the hook. Putting that feature with the artist's name in the title of the song is a trend from the last 10 years that reflects the significance of the contribution. And accordingly background vocalists are never listed in the title of a song. For instance, Beyonce sings background vocals on Frank Ocean's "Pink and White" and she's way more audible in the mix than Lana is here, but she's not given a featuring credit.

Not really Lana's sound~ Lots of great artists came before her although she is great. Mazzy Star, Linda Ronstadt, Emmy Lou Harris, L7, Cat Power, Pj Harvey, Portishead, 60's girl groups and so, so many more in this style.
Lana got her sound from people like the artist she is FEATURED on here. I love Lana. She came AFTER cat Power, AFTER Fiona Apple, AFTER Mazzy Star, AFTER a lot of artists that Lana herself has said she is inspired by. I love Lana, but it’s totally uncool to not credit the inspiration against the will of the artist. Lana knows how to respect other artists she takes inspiration from.
