- Way back in 1983 we attended our very first I.O.W scooter rally! Who knew 40 years later we would still be going. This is probably the best known scooter rally in Europe these day with people travelling from far away lands to locals tearing it up on tuned Vespas and Lambrettas. This year we met up with our mates and made the pilgrimage down to the island. I snapped my front brake lever and did 2 plus, Dom had a couple of issues but overall nothing we couldn't fix at the side of the road. I stripped my Mk2 Li150 Lambretta down in the sixties after it had been stolen and was missing lots of parts and in a sorry state when finally recovered. The engine unit had gone. No side panels anymore and I replaced the front mudguard with a lightweight aluminium type. I rebuilt a rebored engine, gearbox and clutch (breakers yard) with a carb and other parts from a scooter scrapyard in West London.. The rear lighting was replaced with a unit from a lorry. I fitted it with indicators from A Volkswagen. The finished result was a cross between a TV I75 and an SX 200 converted to 12V. It looked nothing like these pristine models but it drew lots of attention and went like the wind. The downside was that it only did 45mpg. I can't remember it being as noisy as these though. I am over over 80 now but still miss it.

Great vid, Russ and Dom! I especially liked the dual views with maps! IOW is a rally I've always wanted to do, made plans for but never made it over. 😥Oh well, I can at least watch! On my latest Lambretta trip, the screws and nuts holding down my TS1 intake manifold managed to unscrew themselves, but that was an easy roadside repair, too! 😅
Plan it and make the trip to the IOW Rally, but make sure everything is tight on ya scooter lol 😂
