      @@hazysativa3045 The biggest problem I had was the front suspension wearing out all the time. It would eat those parts like crazy. Other than that and tires mine was rock solid. I won most of the races I was in with it back in the day.

    Grasshopper was my first and only RC car. the assembly and modifying was my favorite part about it. 540 motor, 7 cell battery (modified tub to make it fit) roller bearings, oil filled shocks, differential gearing, electronic speed control. custom homemade metal nerf bars to fix the body. it was down right fast when i was done but handled like crap. i ended up selling it all less than a year later on consignment through the hobby store i bought it from for more than what i paid for it all. then i went off to college and never got back into the hobby.

The frog started off life as a monster beetle (same frame but red), I turned it into a frog with after market parts and it is the coolest car I have. I would give this stuff away for free to a good home, it would make a pretty cool barn find video. How do I get in touch? Not going to put my info on RUclips!

    • @brentboswell1294
      @brentboswell1294 7 месяцев назад

      The Hornet was the Grasshopper's little cousin...solid rear axle vs. independent rear suspension on the Grasshopper. As I recall, you could put the myriad of aftermarket Grasshopper wheels on the Hornet. I built a Hornet in high school, painted the lexan body shell electric blue (instead of the recommended black). I unfortunately chose a 27 Mhz radio for it, which was later outlawed (as I recall, the powers that be in RC chose to dedicate the 27 Mhz band to RC airplanes in the 1990's).

    • @matthunter1667
      @matthunter1667 7 месяцев назад

      @brentboswell1294 actually the grasshopper was the little cousin to the hornet.
      Same chassis but the Hornet came with a 540 size motor and spike tires
      The grasshopper had the smaller 380 motor and those horrible paddle tires that got very little traction in the grass....
      I own both and the Hornet will run circles around the grasshopper when both have stock motors.

    AWESOME! I had the Hornet. I remember thinking how insanely fast it was. There's no doubt that the stuff we had as kids brought us far more joy. I must have easily had about 20 RC cars by the time I was 18! LOL. That hobby was insane. Glad it still is going, but nothing like it was in the 80's and 90's. There were hobby stores and RC indoor tracks all over! Now? MAYBE ONE I can think of anywhere near. The hobby stores that remain are mostly very spiteful old men who are just mad at the world. OK, well, that didn't change, but.. LOL. CLOD BUSTER! That was by far the most fun RC of all time! Even then, it was stupid expensive. I was shocked my dad bought for me! We were so spoiled.

    In the early 80's, I co-ran one of the first RC clubs called the ORCC (Off Road Car Club) in Framingham, MA. It all started when my buddy bought and assembled a Tamaya Wild Willy. I had to get one too and when we put the 2 together, the idea of a club for these amazing RC cars became our main focus. The ORCC made the newspapers and soon we had well over 100 members. At that time, the Tamaya Grasshopper and Frog were the entry-level Tamayas. The Tamaya Hot Shot 4wd soon came out and upgrade parts for all Tamayas soon became available. It was a great time in early RC-ing.

    About Forty years ago, that marked the inception of my profound passion for RC. That initial Grass Hopper ignited countless hours of joyous exploration, from the meticulous assembly during my maiden RC build to the exhilarating upgrade of the motor from a modest 380 to a dynamic 540. That pivotal moment solidified my devotion to the world of RC, birthing a lifelong fascination. Today, I proudly have a diverse RC fleet comprising drones, cars, buggies, trucks, helicopters and airplanes. Yet, I caution the uninitiated: this pursuit is undeniably addictive, yet profoundly rewarding-a sentiment I cherish wholeheartedly.

    When I was a kid in the 80’s… my friend accidentally drove his grasshopper into the swimming pool and drove it to the steps from the deep end… pulled it out, let it dry and it freaking still ran fine… true story.

    Whoow that grass hopper was slow xD I used to run my grasshopper with the old mechanical speed controller, some random silver can and a slightly bigger pinion. And it was fast so much fun, but traded it for a BMX and I sold the BMX for a HPI E-savage (just released back then) and still drive it regularly 😬

    The Frog was my choice in the early 80s. Stayed together better than the hopper. #bumpcityfish
