I love how the pianist is playing this really loud, dark piece in a giant pink tule dress
LOL ! Loved your comment!
Yeah, that's because she's Valentina Lisitsa!
Liszt - the first metal head
No actually...vivaldi...
The first metal composer was Paganini.
A lot of baroque, classical and romantic musicians were metal head before it existed lol
But this belongs to best of metal head - in my opinion.
@@robertoruiz366 Liszt was the piano-Paganini
Schubert + Liszt + Lisitsa = Perfection
Actually, Valentina combines the piano solo version with the orchestral version in a number of spots like 8:46 to 9:40. It's pretty effective.
What was going on in Liszt life when he wrote this piece? Awesome piece. Awesome performance.
Schubert revived to conduct this?
best comment!
holy shit
hahahahah its very good work
😂
hahaha oh my god
Probably my favourite piece by Liszt.
You'll love his faust and dante symphony if you really like this piece! :D
@@Enrobdoolb Totentanz and the piano sonata are my personal favorites thanks for the recommendations
Devilishly Beautiful! LISZT: the ingenious master composer LISITSA: the masterful performer
Honestly, as a younger guy with a rather… complicated relationship with the metal genre, I feel like this piece resonates with me because it embodies the sort of dark energy that I like in metal while avoiding the most obnoxious elements that are unfortunately all too common in it.
Valentina Lisitsa plays, and without any notes, my favorite piece by Liszt, the Totentanz,a paraphrase on Dies Irae. Miss, they should call you LISZTica :-). Bravo!
Brawo!
Compare this version with IGOR ROMA 's version in the Finale of the LISZT CONCOURS in 1996 in Utrecht, The Netherlands (of course he won FIRST PRIZE) :
Unfortunately in 2 parts:
Part 1: ruclips.net/video/i-Tc0btaNPw/видео.html
Part 2: ruclips.net/video/aW9657uqeDI/видео.html
Possibly one of the most intense and powerful versions.
Prove me wrong (He said jokingly) !
Well, just TRY it !
@@hansvanniekerk768 Indeed, phenomenal performance. Igor Roma has great technique. Check also Enrico Pace's performance, his rendition is very passionate and intensive. ruclips.net/video/BOuRTgPcJYc/видео.html
I was there
You're soo lucky...
Valentina is a piano goddess
this has my heart pounding, my hair standing on edge, my brain is in a blissful wonderment. thank you for sharing. Its beautiful!
I've heard a lot of recordings of this--Argerich, Hamelin, among others. But Lisitsa owns this piece.
No she doesn't XD Kilenyi is was better for example
@@nihilistlemon1995 she owns the solo version
She owns it
But Argerich and Hamelin own everything else 😂
One day, I’ll make that beginning my ringtone.
AMAZING! Valentina & Liszt - what a combo!
Valentina!
fantastique!!! Majestueux…Extraordinaire, Magnifique… Incroyable...
This was like running 100 mp for 16 minutes.
Now that I look at it, it looks like the piano and the orchestra are having a really bad arguement.
play it better then
Franz Liszt now that I look at it, both of you two are arguing again.
yeah, those children
Franz Liszt crossover
Lol
i actually cried at the end...this is music
SAME!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Bravo! Bravo! Bellissimo! Fantastico!
In a word; "Intense"!!!
In four words; "That was Bad Ass"!!!
Bottom Line; "She Shredded that piano"!!!
Laying all jokes aside; "A Great Compilation" !!!!
Love You, Mean It; Valentina :)
Sonorous as you can, in live recording I think this one stands out to me the most, piano is so crisp. :D
I'm not a classical music buff, but I've heard parts of this particular piece in the background of old horror movies, of course, without the piano.
Brian Abrom The Dies Irae is a very old chant from the Mass For The Dead. As you note, it has been used extensively over the centuries in various contexts- none, however, as wild and complex as this.
Fantásticooooo, magistral!!!!!
Maravilloso, gracias por compartir
Inacreditável, incrível!
wtf this piece is so hard yet her hands flung around hit notes correctly. I have been playing piano for long but cant never imagine what league is Lisitsa XD
Exceptional! I loved the balance between soloist and orchestra. This is the finest performance I've heard, and I've listened to many versions of this piece. Valentina is magnificent. Brava!
holy shit that piano playing is out of this fucking world
Brilliant brilliant brilliant
The man was a pioneer
Absolute genius
Outstanding!
Fantastique, quelle précision et quelle émotion !
C’est vraiment une très grande pianiste !
My mind is blown-superlative!
I once again learned that it was a very powerful performance before. nice.
Thank you very much for uploading :-)
Magnifico‼️‼️💐
... mio Dio... 💙
Diabolicamente magistral...
Wow!
That's the spirit!
This piece sounds like the gates of hell opening!!
Supernatural!!
incredible
5:35 --> 6:16
Yoww surprised you're here!
Really nice camerawork. Also, loved seeing the passionate expressions on the pianist's face.
The creases over the eyes were a little bit off putting sometimes.
Friedrich Hueppe well, close your eyes and just listen
Well, fair enough. After all, Barenboim said that to an extent you shouldn't judge a piece of music by the choreography of the players.
@@FredHMusic-gr7nu No need for alarm; Those are just the piano keys inside her head trying to get out through her forehead.
fantastic
Incredible interpretation.
piano+val. lisitsa+ orchestra+ liszt= legend
so much better with an orchestra
but she shreds
Her fingers move so fast!!! 0.0
It's great to listen to this piece as it sounds as a whole instead of just from the bass section 😂 amazing piece I love how dramatic it is. Rather fun the play on a bass
Immensa e stupenda Valentina
Netu slov, spasibo Valya!
Que poderoso!!!
Mein Gott! Sie gibt's so richtig durch... Erscheckend gut!
WOW!
Insuperable!!!!
7:39 Watch and weep heavy metal musicians!
La DIVINA VALENTINA!!!
Once Liszt told a student who was playing the héroïque polonaise: "I don't care how fast you can play those octaves - I want to hear horses galopping menacingly".
Totentanz - death laughing and dancing in our face. At first it seems like he is dancing alone, but soon enough we join him without being conscious of it. And rather than being afraid, we will come to realise that without him we could not be.
V. Lisitsa is a good pianist, but to my ears the only really inspired performance of this piece is that of Michelangeli. Cheers!
She's playing the piano solo version with the orchestra
This piece gave me lisztomania
P.S. I came thinking it would be boring and may have needed to read a book throughout! Boy was I wrong. One second it started, the next, it was finished! Very good!
liszts relaxation music.
Wonderful performance. Deserved those kisses at the ending
Is this what demon summoning ritual sounds like?
Listen to the piano solo version it sounds more haunting
On what drug was Lizt omgggg
Absinthe was legal back then. 😂
I sense Dies Irae
+Istari Pallando Because it's variations on Dies Irae.
+saby0009 Quite obviously is it not?
Istari Pallando Wait, are you contradicting me or agreeing with me? Fucking punctuation, man. And grammar.
Istari Pallando Look, I didn't say that to be mean, I just didn't understand what you meant. Tits are perfectly fine, thank you for your concern :)
+Istari Pallando Wow... you wrote a sentence that was genuinely unintelligible due to a typo (or two; even with a comma it still doesn't exactly make sense) and you're upset with him for trying to clarify? Yeesh.
11:13 is she purposefully hitting “wrong” notes in the right hand to make the A’s stand out more? If that is intentional, she’s a genius
cest de la bonne !
l love you
The piano part seems to be a mix of the concertante and the solo version..........
This piece should be always play twice. On the first try you have never have right amount of feelings. I thought this is most difficult song to play ever not only for manual skills but actually for this extraordinary amount of so different feelings. This one is best i know but always is some things that was lost.
Put this on 1.5 playback speed
Fuckin amazing!
Put an eye tracker on Valentina
Dear Val, the true AVATAR !!!!!
:) Danke :
"Die schönste Jungfrau sitzet
Dort oben wunderbar,
Ihr goldenes Geschmeide blitzet,
Sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar.
Sie kämmt es mit goldenem Kamme
Und singt ein Lied dabei;
Das hat eine wundersame,
Gewaltige Melodei." :)
Who else came here for the triangle @12:36?
OMG...
They say that the grand piano is still receiving counselling
first time I've heard this with an orchestra. not to my taste. much prefer the 14:53 studio version---- would be embarrassed to admit how many times I've listened to/watched that version. i've also seen 2 live performances of hers. However the piano solo parts are very nice.
Ed Herold Don't be embarrassed. I love her solo version just as much as the orchestra version because it is as challenging. The amount of views and audience engagement of her solo version over the years has taken a life of it's own. Although I was so intrigued to actually see what the Orchestra version sounded like and a bigger blessing to see Val be apart of it.
I've watched Natacha Kudritskaya's version of Rameau's Gavotte et six doubles countless times
Why this starts exactly like Berlioz's theme from Dream of a Witches Sabbath?...
Did Stanley Kubrick sample this for the opening music of The Shining? The motif sounds awfully similar.
How is this not the metal of the 1800’s???
Obviously, Rachmaninoff was familiar with this piece when he composed the Paganini variations. Never heard it on radio, wonder why. Had the record ages ago (Alexander Brailowsky?)
Is it just me or did James Horner sample the final movement for the climax of Titanic?
