Fiat and Peugeot were present in the US, Fiat had left in the early 80's, Peugeot in the 90's (or so). But most importantly now both brands belong to the same manufacturer. For the numbers sold, compliance to these laws and the need for a large, in-place dealer network with trained mechanics, many European manufacturers can't be bothered. Ford is now (!) advertising the F-150 even in Germany. Generally, in Germany we consider cars like the if F-150 is totally failed by concept as they are way oversized and way too fuel-hungry. Since car taxes are based on Engine displacement in Germany and fuel taxes are high as well, owning an F-150 will quite quickly become costly in Germany. But an F-150 is not a cheap car anyway.
The German equivalent of this type of "family tanks" ( in German: "Familien-Panzer") would be the Mercedes GL.
In theTop Gear episode about the London race they named the Mercedes GL as "the chelsea'est of all the Chelsea tractors"😂 (its on youtube)
The term "Familenpanzer" was coined by our great German humorist "Loriot": he made cartoons about oversized, heavy cars by showing a family doing their sunday afternoon trip in an army tank. The model was named "Susi II" 😂

I can load 10 foot long lumber inside the car by folding the passenger seat back flat. I get 40 MPG on the highway - and diesel fuel is always available. In the US the fuel is immensely subsidised and the roads are vast - thus encouraging the use of massive, inefficient vehicles (hence why it was the only place where you really got automatic transmission as standard until the past couple of decades). In most of the world, Europe in particular, fuel is heavily taxed (as are vehicles in general) in order to encourage people to walk, cycle, use public transport, etc. in order to cut pollution and congestion. As a result, smaller and more efficient vehicles are far more economically appealing, as well as simply being more practical when going along narrow roads that dominate the countryside.

Then there's people who get the the more upmarket ones for image, as even secondhand they can be expensive, but they want to appear like 'country gentry' types. There was a fashion for rich people in posh parts of London, who rarely saw a field, to have cars like this, so they gained the nickname 'Chelsea Tractors.' You don't tend to see hummers or anything of that size, they wouldn't fit on our roads. Long large cars could never go through the streets of my village centre. I have a Nissan Micra (2018 version) and sometimes it s tricky when people aren t parked well *lolol*.
Peugeot and Renault are old brands from France. Made some of the first cars in the country. They have bought out some other car builders.

Finland wasn't in the list, but Toyota Corolla has been the most popular car here for the past 40 years or so. I don't know what the percentages are, but I wouldn't think that any single brand dominates the market here.
Lada originates from the Soviet Union. During my childhood in the 1970s/80s there were a lot of them also here in Finland, mainly because they were really cheap compared to Western cars. The downside was that quality control in Soviet Russia wasn't very good, so there was no way to know for sure if you'd get a good specimen or not. Some Ladas lasted a lifetime, some were broken all the time. They were mainly bought by people who liked tinkering with cars and knew how to fix them. Nowadays only some collectors have those old Ladas; they keep them clean and shiny just like people who collect classic American cars.

Lada is a Russian car firm so of course it's selling well in Russia and Belarus. That'd be the sanctions lol. And that no other country on the planet is going to want a Lada.

In the post Communist Romania, there were a lots of Trabants. My dad had one, and he used it even in the 2010's. Once the car door next to my father broke, and fell off. H tied it back with a rope, until he had the money to take his car to a mechanic. XD

Peugeout is a French Brand, very stylish.
Dacia is a brand from Romania, but works together with Renault, another French brand, so the technic of Dacia is good, but a few years outdated, but at all, very cheap with sufficient quality.
Vauxhall is the British Version of Opel. You don't know Opel either? It is a German Brand and competitor to Volkswagen, but has been bought by Chrysler, and the PSA (French) and then they came together to Stellantis.
    Lada is a Russian brand.
Skoda is a Czech Brand, now belongs to Volkswagen.
And small streets, small cars, like in Japan and Monaco. Why would you need bigger cars, when there is public transport all around.

Dacia is from Romania and a subsidiary of Renault, which is in a "strategic alliance" with Nissan-Mitsubishi. Together they were the fourth biggest car manufacturing company, after Volkswagen (subsidiaries are Audi, Prorsche, Lamborghini, Ducati, Seat, Cupra, Skoda, Bentley, MAN, Scania, Bugatti and some others), Toyota (with Daihatsu and some others) and General Motors (Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Daewoo; Opel and Vauxhall were sold in 2017 to PSA) before PSA (Peugeot, Citroën, DS) merged in 2021 with Fiat Chrysler (Fiat, Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram) to Stellantis N.V., Amsterdam.
