They interview New Music composers and the site is really interesting!
"Pandora" is a musical eulogy for a friend who died.
Filmed at 808A.
Sxip Shirey. Mad musical genius. Your composing makes me think of a million things I'd like to do with theatre. Please, please make it to Toronto one day.
Wow! Intriguing and haunting and breathtaking and...I want more!
Simply beautiful. The sense of loss was warmly felt. xx
Sxip, just saw you in San Francisco just recently. Though I love the videos, none of them quite do justice for the genuine experience.
When you opened playing the flute, my girlfriend and I just slowly turned to the stage in disbelief. Incredible stuff my man. You and Jason did a fantastic job.
Quite apart from every other piece of ingenuity in this video, a beautifully haunting melody that I instantly want to hear again. Thank you.
your welcome!!!
Bloody Brilliant i simply Love your inventiveness in Music ..its truly what creativity is SUPPOSED to be about ...new universes to explore ..i sometimes think main stream music has really lost its way
that may be true.. BUT there is SO MUCH good music out there right now, anything that you are into, some young person is exporing it in exciting ways, you just have to dig a big now. THANK YOU. I so appreciate your enjoyment of my work!
You are absolutely amazing. This gave me chills. Bring your Hour of Charm back to Boston more often -- I miss it! I went several times while it was being housed at the A.R.T. :)
I cannot tell you how moved and humbled I am by your comment. I am really glad you found this helpful. Cheers my friend.
That takes talent , even if it's over my head . I like it
if you like, it aint over your head! thank you.
thank you for being such a genius, sxip... and speaking to me in a way that no one else ever has. your art is profoundly beautiful and so important. people might not get you or appreciate it... but you are everything to me, right now. we all love you.
omgoodness, thank you
i saw you in new jersey with the dresden dolls a few years back and was utterly moved. I have never been so amazed in my life. you instantly becoem one of my favorite people of all time. i bought your cd and you signed it. I also really wanted to touch your hair.. and im sure you would have let me but i felt awkward abou ti so didnt ask.. next time im sure. none the less everytime i try to describe you to some one i just cant. but nothing NOTHING compares to a live show. Thank you for existing
EXCELLENT ! J'adore ! Bravo Bonhomme !
If I ever had a friend make me such a moving heartfelt piece of music after I died...I would know I had made an impression on someone. This is beautiful Sxip. Ignore any other comments on RUclips, you are a musical genius with a heart and soul that sings it.
Wow, Super!
These are NOT noisemakers they are true orchestrating instruments,.. I am in awe,...
thank you. I am glad you see them this way.
absolutely enthralling. 'nuf said.
What a wonderful and creative performance. Thanks for your artistry!!!
I was wondering what you were using for your pitch shifting........
it's got a really nice sound. I've tried a Boss Intellishifter and a Digitech Red Whammy in my own found sound shows but I"m not really satisfied with either.
By the way, I loved your whistling crank music toy piece!!!! I have one of those cool little instruments in my collection but have never found another.
pay attention to where he has the microphones set up. no effects. Its brilliant.
This is excellent! Right up there with Hans Reichel and John Cage.
It is inspirational to see people out there with such interesting compositions.
Keep up the good work.
Beautiful and haunting. Genuinely genius.
Nicola Figini thank you.
I only just discovered your work today. I stumbled upon 'Palms' (featuring Puddles Pity Party) and was inspired to explore your other tunes. You do something with sound that no-one else comes close to.
Nicola Figini It means allot that you enjoy my music. I glad Puddles led you here!
Truly the soundtrack of turmoil.
That really is incredibly cool.
awesome
My flash player is broken i cant see anything but the sound works fine.... is he shooting laser beams???
... I think it's a bit bizzare, but I LOVED IT.
Hardcore fluff, yo. Hardcore fluff...
'Love all of y'all!!!
@sxipshirey Very welcome.
This is swell mood stuff. I can imagine it being coveted by film makers.
microphone position? Does each microphone have it's own effect, or are you using pedals? I notice the three, but are there any more? You are amazing, the whistling part at 1:10 is haunting. Thank you for the response!
I must say, my. ears have been opened as never before. thus all of me opened as never before!
(a big thank you to puddles pity party who led me to you!)
jocked07 that is so lovely. thank you.
Puddles is a great. I am so glad you found my music and that it opened your ears! Wow! Thank you.
@Kokezaru No! I didn't hear that he was around until the next day. Very disappointing for me.

Amazing stuff. He's got at least a pitch-shifter and a reverb pedal set up along with the mike. Everything else is just creativity and practice.
The whistling and little spinning racket machine never fails to get me. It makes me think of catastrophe or tragedy but in a retrospective way. But I guess that's the point.
it is! thank you.
I don't understand how he makes the harmonies and sounds. Does he have them going through filters and controls them with pedals that we can't see?
Sxip, someday, near or far, I hope I too can perform such amazing pieces.
also, did you make the music-box-esque instrument yourself?
no, I just gaff tapped together some music boxes I found in a toy store.
so this is what happens when i search my last name
Wow. i am untalented and unworthy. *bows down*
Sam Lockhart You are worthy! You ARE worthy!
Sxip Shirey Lol. Thank you. But seriously, I really dig how you were just taking the weirdest things and making a musical soundscape on the spot. And the way you blend all kinds of instruments perfectly but in ways I wouldnt really think of, in your other music.
I'm up here still tryna work up the motivation to memorize basic piano scales.
nothing new exept the art of comunication and the modesty....
Kinda creepy...
