Sxip Shirey -Mehanata -live at National Sawdust, February 2020
Mehanata is one of Sxip Shirey's renowned object-oriented compositions featuring extended, triple penny whistles, marble and glass bowl, Acme siren whistle, train whistle, jingle bells and electronics. It is a tribute to the club Mehanata (aka The Bulgarian Bar in NYC) and the way cultures mix in the night-life of international cities. Sxip would often go see Eugene Hutz mix Balkan brass bands against the Beastie Boys. He would then stop for cheep eats at Pakistani taxi deli "Punjabis," where he heard his first Bangra/hip-hop mix and thought "WHAT IS THIS?!" So glad you came to Newcastle to perform Limbo the Return. I'm certain I never would have heard of you otherwise 😊 That show was absolutely awe inspiring. Such a level of skill packed into a short timeframe. What you donwith sound isbjust ridiculous, and the friends you bring along for the ride are sexy as hell 😁
I like that they kept consistent with the color pallet, I like the compilation of ideas, even though there's no broader narrative they kept inside of. If they do another project I'd hope they either time the animation with the music or try tell some kind of story. Especially with the diversity of styles, that would make it such a cool project. Anyway, I loved this, just an idea if you rehire the team.

Thanks so much for making this public service video. Most fat robots are caused by swelling of lithium-ion batteries; the heat and build-up of gases will make the battery vulnerable. Puncturing a swollen robot may lead to fire and explosion. I’m hopeful there will be an exciting part II to this informative video.

I can’t remember, maybe we had two Zooms. I worked the sound in post. Added a bit of reverb compression etc

I am playing an A Harmonic Minor Lee Oscar harmonica, stacked on top of a G Harmonic Minor to get that shift.
@@sxipshirey Ok, nice! I've been playing blues harp for almost two decades now but I use only harmonicas in major keys. I can of course play melodies in minor keys with them but not minor harmonics. I'm customizing my own harmonicas so maybe I'll try tuning some of the older ones from major to minor harmonics. Thanks for the inspiration you gave me! By the way are you using some effect pedals?
I use octaves and pitchdhifters.
@@sxipshirey They make the sound strange and crooked in a beautiful way! I just remembered that I made one song couple of years ago where I played harmonica through pitchshifter. Check out if you like: brainwavecaravan.bandcamp.com/track/nibiru Melodies are played with diatonic major key harmonicas through pitchshifter and looped with loop pedal.
