Is it a Jagdtiger at 3:20?
It is! I don't know how that 72 ton monster snuck in there =/ but it did.
ja has *JA*
@@JohnnyJohnsonEsq lol. Special appearance, i guess? Cos that thing's super thick, and big ass gun of 128mm. Next big cat after Jagdpanther.
Was gonna say the same thing 😁
Oh, shit! Load apfsds, hit the commanders override and get the turret to 3:00!
The Jagdpather is one of those combat vehicles that just LOOKS dangerous even sitting still. As you mention, there weren't a lot of Jagdpanthers made and by the time that vehicle was in production the Germans were short of well-trained crews, fuel for training and operations, etc. One account from the US Army's 737th Tank Battalion mentions an engagement between a Jagdpanther and some Shermans. The vehicles exchanged fire at fairly long range and the lone Jagdpanther pulled away from the engagement, but instead of backing away and leaving the strongest armor towards the Americans, the Germans turned around and put their vulnerable rear to the Shermans who promptly hit it several times and knocked it out. Lesson: crew training really matters!
The reverse speed on panthers is piss poor so that kinda makes sense
The Australian armour and artillery museum are currently doing a restoration/recreation of a Jagdpather on their RUclips channel for anybody interested. Right now its a static restoration but they plan on making it a runner when sufficient mechanical parts can be sourced.
Fantastic I'll check it out
That first band of brothers scene always freaks me out. Great Video!

"...and the Nashorn was too lightly armoured and underpowered."
*shows footage of a Nashorn being shoved off a bridge
“Your armor is too thin, get off”
A merciful end compared to being flamed on Saving Private Ryan.
gang got bullied by some hellcats
The Jagdpanther honestly looks like a modern vehicle, it's so menacing.
Wouldnt be hard to make a modernized version of it tbh. Just swtich the 88mm with a 105 or 120mm gun and the whole engine/suspension system. heck it can carry ERA from the way its designed
Nice to see someone also likes GuP. For show that is, well, an ANIME, it pays suprinsing respect to non technical aspects of tank warfare, showing role of good battle plan, reconesance, and adaptivness, not just raw guns and armour stats. Sure, it often ( especialy later in movie ) drifts into "ANIME BS" teritory, but even then it's still fun to watch, if you just don't mind cartoon phisics :D .
It's good fun with great detailed artwork 👌

it got me into armor history and becoming a tank geek like I am today
"drifts into"
Hah, I see what you did there.
I love you use Bo Time Gaming's videos. He really does go through a ton of different tank models in War Thunder
Not my favorite tank destroyer from Germany, that being the StuG, but it was a very powerful and devastating to face against for allied forces. Another nice video about weapons and vehicles in films, shows, and games. And another inclusion of Girls und Panzer, especially in the thumbnail, which I love. Great job on the video, and I hope to see more of them in the future.
I really appreciate you not ignoring Girls Und Panzer (I love that show as a WW2 Historian in my spare time it's just a fun silly series with WW2 tanks and equipment being used by cute girls. Sometimes not having serious is nice) just because "iT'S ANimE". And Video games as well. I appreciate that you show footage from all kinds of sources not just historical and historical based media. Keep up the good work!
Calling cartoons “cute girls” is just so creepy lol
@@nerfgunner2327 You're opinion and I respect that.
For me though I just like women, cute stuff, and cute women real or not. It's unfortunate for some people that using certain words like "Girl" when that can also just be used to refer to women and their gender as a general term immediately makes them think children when it wasn't even used in that context. Also they aren't real.
To this day one of the moments I remember the most from GuP is when Hetzer shot off Jagdpanther's track *again* and the commander went out screaming "Are you kidding me, we've just finished repairing it!"
Some More Interesting facts :-
The German 30mm / 3cm MK 303 Flak , saw post war service with the CzechoSlovak army ,who have both factories and the required license to manufacture ones. The AA Gun was inducted in the year 1953 ,under the designation of PLDvK vz. 53. It was chambered in 30*210mm Round, which is simlar but larger than the 30*210mmB round of the Soviet union used in AK 230/NN-30 autocannon. The Gun can be fed both by sideways clip or by a 30-round magazine top feed using modifications. The Czechs also built the M53/59 Praga Self propelled AA gun on a thinly armored V3S Praga truck . The Gun saw it's primary combat in Yugoslav wars, and specially was the favorite vehicle of the Yugoslav National Army and Serbian paramilitaries in ground attack. It was eventually replaced by the Pasars 16 ,which it helped in design influence, in the Serbian army.It also saw service in the Congo wars and in the M23 Rebellion.
It's surprising what continued in service after the war and with whom. It was long rumoured that Mark IVs saw service in the Middle East long after the war which has since been confirmed, though it looks like they were used more like pillboxes. And the first aircraft used by the Israeli airforce were Bf 109s bought from the Czechs.
@@bigblue6917 Those were Avia S-199. Discount BF-109 made in CzechoSlovakia.
Johnny, I think I enjoy your videos more than any on RUclips: Your smooth delivery, easy-going manner and good research are appreciated.
Thanks so much. I slip up here and there but I try to call myself out on it 🙏
It always makes me smile when you include clips from GuP, one of the best tank movies/tv shows ever made 😊
You can't deny the beauty of this tank destroyer...
Nice pic and explanation about the two different 88s. You never fail to educate!
Thank you as always
@@JohnnyJohnsonEsq The Pak 43/3 reminds me of a .50 BMG compared to a .50 AE! Stunning!
In GuP, the student council (turtle) Hetzer crew trolled the entire Kuromorimine assault up the mountain. Before that was the shot to disable the JagP. They literally destroyed the formation while pretending to be one of them (they have the same color but only brighter).
They managed to get out of that tough spot while the disorganized enemy panicked. Then the 2nd shot to the same JagP by the turtle Hetzer made the tank crew of JagP furious.
A long drawn out mobile battle that happened caused the enemy team casualties to the mechanical side. The disadvantage to fielding heavier tanks.
The turtle team finally made the most recognizable and the most highlighted thing they made. Challenging a Maus head on.
It's good to be back
And I love it when people like you feature Girls und panzer, great video
Love the GuP 🥺
Yah it's fun!

Weird how people call it “unrealistic”, which, i myself can say, yes it is but if they want the “realistic” one, i might suggest *that cursed* manga spinoff

I love your work Johnny. Pre covid I used host panels at anime cons covering similar content like the history behind GuP or Kancolle. If I ever had a channel of my own it probably would have looked a lot like yours. Keep up the good fight! :)
Right on man. If you do let me know so I can check it out and give support
The jagdpanther is my favorite Slopped and turretless AT destroyer (self propelled). I have been trying to get one in my 1st WOTB account ,, but I don't have enough XPs to get one. plus I can no longer access that account. Hence I am trying it in my 2nd account.
Trust me it's a pretty fun tank, it's one of my most played.
As someone who has researched the entire Jagd E100 line, my most favorite tanks in the line is the Jagdtiger and JPanther, those 2 are real fun vehicles
Another great one, Johnny! Wish this piece of armor was displayed in more film productions. BTW, great episode of BoB.
Jagdpanzer and Jagdpanther are pretty underrated in films as well as WW2 community.
The Jagdpanther is the most beautiful turretless tank destroyer in existence. Especially with the massive wedge shape front with a sloping roof and sides. Even the rear is well sloped. Not only is the shape beautiful, it deflects incoming shells efectively. I believe the effective thickness of the front plate is even more than a Tiger I and has a better chance of riccochet. Also the gun is basically a King Tiger gun in a chassis almost half the weight.
P/S: 45t over 70t is not nearly half, but only 60% which is less than two thirds.
0:48 I did not know it also meant rhinoceros
Seeing a scene from "It Happened Here" was a neat surprise. That's always been one of my favorite alt history WWII films. A haunting look at a German occupied England.
Thanks for sharing such videos with us.
I own a small RC version of the Jagdpanther.
I have a Tiger 1 that shoots BBs let's battle
I have a panther
The Jagdpanther shoots .22 LR
"okay we need a tank destroyer that armed with Pak 43"
Nashorn: "It's open top and the armor is too thin!"
Ferdinand/Elefant: "its way to heavy! the engine keep caught on fire! just what the hell did Porsche think when designing these?!"
Jagdpanther: Perfect! good speed and solid armor protection! the transmission is still a problem but its acceptable than its predecessor"
I"ll be waiting for a video on the Wespe👍🙂
Always enjoy it when a Girls und Panzer thumbnail is used for one of your videos
WW1 content when? Especially the tanks of the Great War, they're such a overshadowed tanks in movies, games and TV shows
Fun fact: The design was successful enough that West Germany would revive and modernize it as the Kanonenjagdpanzer in the 1960s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanonenjagdpanzer
Not really, Kanonenjagdpanzer was designed closely to the Jagdpanzer 4 with its low profile
Thanks for the info. But Kanonenjagdpanzer 90 and a Chieftain TD prototype (Jagdcheiftain) was designed based on not Jagdpanther but Jagdpanzer IV.
Also An interesting take, The Spahpanzer RU-251 Light tank , which was originally intended to replace the M-41 Walker bulldog in West Germany's Bundeswehr , is based on the chassis of Kanonenjagdpanzer 90 and also uses the same 90 mm Rheinmetall BK 90/L40 main cannon.
Some facts I missed in your M4 Sherman Video:-
Some of the Rare variants of sherman to see service are the Chilean 60mm Sherman and the Indian 76.2mm Sherman.
The Indian M4 Sherman is a rare Mark 4 variant fitted with the 76.2mm Gun of PT-76 light amphibious tank which aso saw service in Indian army. Both saw actions during the Bangladesh Liberation war and Third Indo Pak war .
If you build models the Sherman is a kit bashers dream. You could keep yourself busy for years.
One of my top favourite tank destroyers along with the Jagdtiger, Jagdpanzer, M-18 Hellcat and the upgunned verison of the M-10 called the Achilles.
Always liked the Jagdpanther. Never know what you're going to come up with. Thanks mate , well done.
Please do the tiger excellent video 😁
Jagdpanthers were sometimes called "barn doors" by their crews due to how tall and wide they were. While that design is great for ergonomics, it makes it very difficult to accomplish their ostensible job: ambush.
I recall reading about an encounter between a jagdpanther and a few Shermans where the JP crew, clearly inexperienced, attempted to turn their tank around and retreat. It earned them a shell through their rear armor, and some of the men survived and fled on foot
Nickname Barn Doors (ger. Scheunentor) was used by crews of towed Pak 43/41 AT guns, not Jagdpanthers.
I don't think Jagdpanther had a good ergonomic when you considering the massive Pak 43 breech taking up so much space inside
Highly enjoy your videos, thanks again
Having seen a Jagdpanther and a Hetzer in person, the difference in size is mindblowing. Like comparing a VW Beetle to a Peterbilt Big Rig!
Also while Doing some little research ,I also Found the cursed tank concepts of Jagdbrams ( Abrams Tank destroyer) and Jagdleopard ( Leopard 1 and 2 tank hunter concept)
also Kanonenjagdpanzer and a Chieftain TD prototype (Jagdcheiftain) was designed based on not Jagdpanther but Jagdpanzer IV.
The West Germans also created Raketenjagdpanzer concept using the cocnept of Jagdpanzer IV and Jagdpanther . They came up with 1,2, Jaguar 1 and Jaguar 2 , all equipped with Nord SS11, HOT and BGM 71 TOW Missile. The chassis were based on Spz HS 30.
All Tank details are given in vivid by the Articles of Tank encyclopedia.
The tank museum at Saumur in France has one of them on running condition. They use it during the dinamic demonstrations that they do.
I believe the ones built by the British Army Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers were for testing and were shipped back there. In fact one of them now resides at the Tank Museum at Bovington. There is also one at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridgeshire and the Wheatcroft Collection, Leicestershire, England owns sufficient parts to restore another. As there are only nine remaining that means Britain has one third of them.
Cool thing about the Jagdpanther is the slope of the side hull which is the same slope of the Panther main battle tank side turret.
What's special about the Jagpanther is the armored steel side hull is a single piece of plate steel from the very front end of the vehicle along the side all the way back to the rear.
There’s one in the IWM that was knocked out by a Churchill. The holes are still visible in its backside.
There may be no tank as useful for both ambush and attack as the Jagdpanther.
Another great vid!
The Bo Time Gaming clip made me laugh.
How's the Supermarine Spitfire video going.
Puttin' the scews to ol' Johnny hey. That's a big project!
Nice. If we have a movie recommendation should we post here?
Yes please! Always post any good ones!
Fun fact: The 2nd longest range recorded tank kill was from a Nashorn into the back of a freaking Pershing!
Good movies Johnny 🎬
The French built the thickest armor tank destroyer (besides the Americam T95, which had partially thicker armour and was bore sloped) and the Germans and Swedish built tank destroyers up to the 1960s until ATGM took over. For some reason, the Swedish labelled them MBTs.
Love the GUP clip of the Jagd getting tracked
When I hear. "Allllllright" I get happy for a breif second, but then depressed because I know the video is over. ☹️
Very nice looking tank
The Jagdpanther is undoubtedly the best looking tank of the second world war. Also my favorite of all time.
Have you considered doing a video covering the m16 and m14?
I'll try to do the m16 in the next week or so :)
In company of Heroes 1 I used to choose panzer elite faction just to play this tank it was a great tank to have in combat sadly as you can see it in the minimap in the game it had the diamond marker meaning it is deployed only once to battle and yes it was to earn a historical accuracy that as you said only 400 to 450 variants were made.
Supposedly, in April 1945, a small isolated group of Jagpanthers was caught up in an engagement with a squadron of brand new Soviet IS3 heavy tanks as they were on their way to participate in the Battle of Berlin. This was never really confirmed and is the subject of much speculation.
The Jagdpanther or JPanther as I like to call it, may not be my Maybe be my Overall Favorite Tank Destroyer, that goes to the M10, but it Certainly is Top in Favorite TDs in terms of Country of Origin, the JPanther is one of those Tanks that was Built for an Intended Purpose but, can Fulfill Various Roles, and thats what Made me Love it so much among other Beastly War Machines the Germans Had in World War 2.
*He Attacc!*
*He Protecc!*
But most importantly...
*He Beautiful as Hecc!*
Yes Aesthetics is what also made me Fall in Love with this Tank, aside from being Generally an Awesome Tank!
Its a Shame that Theres little Movies that Features, a JPanther, at the Very least a Mock up, like in Band of Brothers, and that Mock up made me Believe it was a Real JPanther when I First Watch BoB when I was Little.
Informative and Enjoyable as Ever Johnny!
Keep up the Amazingly Great Work, my Friend!

@@JohnnyJohnsonEsq the odds are we may be visiting Canada next year....
Pivoting towards a moving target that's trying to outflank it makes it a lot scarier, as you will have the well-armored part of the tank constantly facing you without exposing the hull mass.🤣
Did my ramblings of the M18 not being a tank destroyer make you want to get you Jadgpanther video out Johnny.
i remember you saying it was your favourite Johnny.
A nice pick unlike most heavy rushed unintended German Tank destroyers the only issue it had was to much tension on the tracks from altered strained suspension but this is not notable.
Tanks didn't take out the Jadgpanther but artillery & mines for the top-floor armour varied from 16 mm to 25.
Once the allies shortly figured this out they just threw every shell they had at Jadgpanthers.
After our talk I realized German tank destroyers were overlooked on the channel 🙏🙏
@@JohnnyJohnsonEsq I just thought of something hilarious & unsettling!
If as you & many in the new world consider a M18 hellcat to be a tank destroyer then the (Italian self propelled gun) Semovente da 47/32 with a (infantry gun/anti tank gun)
being a Cannone da 47/32 would certainly qualify more as a tank destroyer in design.
Why you try to give me nightmares Johnny.
The thought of earliest Semovente 47/32 being a true tank destroyer & not semi at best disturbs me though it was a decent tank as the only tanks I think German bought of the Italians.
The latest ww2 SPG of Italy is the Semovente M43 da 105/25 which had just over 200 built for the Germans while Italy only built 121 built for them self's
The latest mention Semovente M43 da 105/25 like the mid gap Semovente da 75/18 both used a howitzer of 105mm & 75mm respectivly.
I might argue the Semovente was best tank the Italians had in ww2 though it isn't really as a self propelled gun.
Most often jump to the experimental Italian Medium heavies that often never saw combat.
Whoa whoa in 1;26 the panther presented in "Warsaw 44" is fully functional tank, it is not a mock up, the only one, real piece in Poland.
Official orders were to keep the Jagdpanthers in the rear and only use them if they could win. They were probably the best tank germany had at that time and they didn't have a lot. So like most "super vehicles" they didn't actually contribute much.
The first time I ever saw one of these beasts was in OG Close Combat when it popped up among my units while playing the Germans. Still to this day one of the finest RTT games ever made.
Actually Panzer V Panther used in Warsaw 44 is real Panther tank :) Jagdpanther have one the best apperance of any WWII armored vechicles imo...But almost all of german armored vechicles are looking great, scary, mean, menacing :)

Lmao the part where the jagdpanther fell in war thunder😂
Do the 50 Cal Browning Machine Gun next, please
There was a Jagdpanther in Ultraman Leo
Germany showed they can create crazy stuff with limiter resources vs the near infinite the combined allies had but then they decided a 70 beast with a naval sized gun was a good idea.
Don’t think this has ever been brought up before man but is it safe to assume you’re a gamer and anime fan? Or just simply use these as references
Both! But I moved to a farm a couple years ago and my internet sucks so my online gaming ability has greatly decreased =/
@@JohnnyJohnsonEsq RIP 🪦
I was so close to unlocking the jadgpanther before I moved.
There would be more German tanks featured in movies if their leadership hadn't been so stubborn, and had surrendered when they knew the war was lost. Hence, the many Russian tanks. BTW, have you done anything about the movie The Beast of War (1988)? It's probably my favorite war movie, and it's basically all about tanks, or one tank in particular. I have no idea how technically accurate it is, but I thought they handled the story well.
Perhaps too little to see in war films. Nice video.
Now we can either do the jagtiger, jagdpanzer IV or jagdpanzer IV (A)
I want it most to be the Jagdpanzer IV (A).
If there are any movies that shows it.
A friend of mine's father pushed a tank through much of north Africa and on into Italy. I always have to laugh at the idea of a British tank crew being ordered not to destroy buildings. The excuse he got to destroy buildings was one of the highlights of his life. If there was the least suspicion of an enemyin a building he put an HE or AP right through it. Mind you, not a Brit but a New Zealander. But I'm sure there were plenty of larrikins in the British army as well. :)
This is my favorite tank destroyer bc of how it looks
Its not only OP in The War for germans.its also OP in game for example C.O.H 1 I love the jagdpanther heavily armored AND 88mm main gunabsolute OP.
I apologize because I'm about to be /that guy/.
Ferdinand and Elefant were indeed 2 different vehicles.
Minor differences between the two, but enough to be different vehicles. The most obvious difference being the Ferdinand completely lacked a hull MG and had absolutely zero ways to defend against advancing infantry other than relying upon it's own infantry support. That was remedied with the Elefant.
There's room to be that guy. Thanks for adding this
Nope, both the designation change and upgrade are never related to each other. AFAIK, the upgrade actually came first, then few months later Hitler ordered the name change
This is very fun to play in war thunder as long as you don't get bombed by cas, get your tracks shot or face a soviet tank with 122mm cannon.
So with the JagdPanther being based on the Panther, did thye fix its final drive problem in the Jagdpanther?
I was encouraged to buy a tamiya jadpanther, now im having second thoughts weather im gonna buy the bt-42 or the jadgy XD

WoW 10 reamaining is actually a lot! since thers only 7 surviving Tigers out of 1350 made
Probably because their transmission broke and they were abandoned 😂
;) on a serious note: thats because unlike the Tiger Panthers had a service life after WW2. As mentioned in the video Allies produced some for evaluation and France used captured Jagdpanthers and Panther tanks in their army for some years, which ment parts were collected, stockpiled or even produced. With most other german tanks the production not only stopped, but production lines, parts and leftover tanks were activly destroyed for demilitarization and reclaiming the ressources.
