Ashok Leyland Vehicles are the Emperors on Indian roads.
The main features of leyland vehicles are
It is super for rough driving Condition (rough use)
It is better for hill climbing than other trucks. We use only leyland on ghatt areas
very less maintanance for engine of leyland trucks and the sound of the engine is excelent
All these reason Ashok leyland vehicles became very close relatives of Indian people
We Indians Salute you ASHOK LEYLAND
for the great service yo have given
Thank you Thank you Thank you
A leyland lover from Arpookara Kottayam - kerala - India
The brand British Leyland has become a history in UK, but its legacy will live on in India for many years to come. It stills controls 70% of India's bus market demands till date. New concepts like power stirring, multi axel trucks, double decker and vestibule buses were all introduced for the first time by Leyland in India.
In the mid 80's, I was driving a Leyland T45 , 4x2 sleeper cab with a 365 Cummins and a 13 speed fuller. It was a brilliant truck, loved it. I was as sick as a dog when my then boss , sold it and bought a 111 Scania, what a bloody let down. The scania wasn't a patch on the T45.
I worked at Leyland motors in Tottenham, Melbourne, Victoria in 1964-67 it was my first job at 15 after leaving school
Leyland Albion Scammell were assembled where I worked
Thank you. Wonderful History. I remember going to school in a small town in south india in a ashok leyland bus. Their engine sound is so unique even to this day.
I am from India. Comet used to be a workhorse throughout the 1980s . These were excellent trucks with their cowl chassis. Viking used to be another illustrative model used by state transport organization for double decker buses. The engine sound was superb. Though lelyand launched multi axle trailers, in 1980s however they were late to capture the heavy coal mining overburden haulage, combined mode market through the rigid dump trucks, where volvo and scania pitched in. To recapture the market the company has launched its hhp rigid dump trucks in that segment.
I'm a leyland lover., especially ashok Leyland..
Hi bro...i am also from TN
Brit kits
Terrible trucks
Dhimbham ghat specialists
Very good rundown. Leyland's main rival for decades was AEC, which they took over in 1962 and you briefly mentioned with the roadtrain. They were a very important British manufacturer who acquired other truck makers themselves and developed the famous London Routemaster red double decker bus that remained in service from 1956 until 2005.
The TL 12 engine used in the 1980s Leyland T45 truck for three years into it's production, was a turbo charged version of AEC's AV 760 diesel engine, so it's engineering lived on a short time after the AEC nameplate's 1977 demise and it's Southall London factory closure in 1979.
Leyland were a much bigger player and lived far longer than I realised before.. very interesting.

Leyland trucks are still used here in Kenya up to date ,they are cool
Maybe it's Ashok Leyland.
Leyland only exists in India now
I used to drive a Leyland S26 with a 350 bigcam Cummins in Zimbabwe
@TheMadScotsman mckay what do you drive ?
I’m a Leyland lover especially clydesdale ,victory and scammel trucks
Clydesdale and fraghter are the best
Well put together. If ever in the UK the Leyland transport museum is very much worth a visit. It's only a few minutes of the M6 motorway.
Leyland still lives strong in India under the brand Ashok Leyland..
നിങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെയും ഉണ്ടോ
Also in Jamaica
Never knew that thanks
British Leyland, Bedford and many more are history in the uk
Which is owned by the hinduja group
Let us not forget the famous engines built by Leyland and used under licence in the Pegaso, Sisu and DAF trucks well before the merger. And their Canadian operation albeit for a short time. Leyland Beavers, Super Beavers and Hippos were assembled in Israel by Leyland-Ashdod, Ltd and sometimes fitted with locally produced cabs of fiberglass.
And don’t forget Scania to if you look deep into the history of the V8 Scania the design originated from Leyland AEC
The famousDiesel engines built by Leyland in England built too without licence in Poland by Huta wola wola
Thanks for the information.
I used to haul engines from Leyland to DAF Eindhoven in the early 2000's.
Not sure where DAF get their engines nowadays; do they build them in-house, anyone?
Foden was an independent truck manufacturer until the 1980's with a share on the London Stock Exchange
I remember the Leyland Tigers in Madras in the 60’s .asuch a beautiful roar those engines had .Of course the Comet was the most prolific model and then came the Beaver and Hippo models . Anyway Leyland is still going strong in India . Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
ruclips.net/video/6Ah6jRFIOQ8/видео.html
In India Ashok Leyland made Comet, Super Comet, Vicking, Cheetah, Titan( double decker bus), Hippo, Bevar, Tiger and few i don't remember
Indian Leyland started using Hino engines for their Bus..
Passed my test in a leyland constructor, good truck to be fair, easy to handle, nice gearbox.
Leyland born and bred. Very sad decline and devastating for the area
@ 7:13.... What a beautiful little lorry!! I have never seen one ever in my lifetime.
The older Leyland and Leyland-daf trucks are still very common in Jamaica. And their engines sound beatiful
That's why I came here!
Modern engines are boring as a washing machine.
I still drive a Leyland Buffalo 2 with a TL11 in a quarry, you just can't beat them Built to last🤟💪
These new things won't last anywhere near as long, so called 'technology' today is a hindrance for tomorrow.
We INDIAN till manufacturer of Leyland we love these trucks 💕💕💕
💕
What cars do you guys still make I knew you still made leylands here in england we have shit cars trucks 4x4 and vans with too much electronics that break we might have to bring some REAL cars here
I am proud to say that I was an associate of 70 year's old Ashok leyland every associate is dedicated to produce the quality vehicles in all our products which is travelling through out the world regoising the unique leyland 🎉🎉🎉🤝
Leyland tried to do too much too soon, also let down by militant unions, workers didn,t care about the products, sad but its the truth.
workers must not take care of something dont belong to them. They only must care about earning so much as possible with less work as possible.
Partial truth, partial bullshit. The main problem was *inept management* which designed and approved hopeless products already outdated when released, and with loads of built-in faults. The proof is to be found in the subsequent incarnations of British Leyland: they all failed long after the absurdly militant Unions were tamed and brought back to reason. The Phoenix fraudsters were the last nail in the coffin: they raked in millions and then left everyone else high and dry.
And let down by under investment bad management let not forget that
Very good voice ❤️❤️, but atleast you should have mentioned about "ASHOK LEYLAND" rather than a few words, as "Ashok LEYLAND" still exists in INDIA, and is the LARGEST BUS MANUFACTURERS IN INDIA, and second largest TRUCK MANUFACTURERS , and Exports their products to a lot of other nations till day, I regret to say that's is reason, though BRITISH rule PLUNDERED INDIA, but INDIANS GOT BACK WITH "ROYAL ENFIELD", "JAGUAR", LEYLAND" which are OUR BRAND NOW, PROUD to be a INDIAN
Layland is most trusted & dependable name in Trucks, Buses & only manufacturer of double decker chasis in India
Still even after arrival of Volvo Trucks Ashok Leyland is standing steadily with these reputed manufacturers
hi. i worked a AEC ltd and we were the 1st to build the marathon and we had to put the leyland name on it which we did not like, due to politcal reasons AEC had to shut in may 1979 as powers to be thought customers would buy leylands and not AEC trucks. thats why we have loads of mercedes and scania trucks now also volvo and daf.now on the roads
Factually incorrect. No mention of Guy Motors which I think the author got confused with Foden. Foden became part of Paccar C1980, Guy Motors went into receivership and taken over by Jaguar C1968 and subsequently British Leyland.
yeah , thats why they were called guy big J 4 or big J6 j stood for jaguar.
I don't ever remember using the term driver comfort when thinking about Leyland trucks 😂
Two items; 1)the bus part of Leyland is a triple chapter on its own,as many a London bus,was built by Leyland or AEC! 2)Guy Motors, built buses and trolley buses, another area often overlooked! There were Leyland trolley 🚎 buses exported, and some actually wound up in Montreal, and a couplevof Canadian cities, another sideline, not always noted! Thanks for your attention, and I hope the information helps! 🚌🚌🚌🚌🚌🚎🚎🚎🚎🚎🚋
Brill made buses powered by AEC in Canada. There are two in preservation.
Drove bison with fuller gear box.. lovely. Then drove the land train with Cummins engine.. Think fuller gear box 9 speed.. These land train were made in Wolverhampton I think and were tipping body..
Love them Leyland first truck I ever drove
Leyland ,never bought Foden, was eventually bought by Paccard trucks .
Those whose automatic reaction whenever they hear the name is to go "chortle chortle British Leyland!" and make jokes about the Austin Allegro have no conception of the history of Leyland. In fact, they truck & bus division was always profitable even through Longbridge's worst times
The one good thing my town is known for.
And I maintain their grounds hehe
Leyland trucks still exists in India as ASHOK LEYLAND
They still makes great trucks and buses
Jamaica too
@@onequebrown4599 what is the name in Jamaica
nothing to do with leyland apart from the shared badge. Leyland does still exist in the UK.
@@lancsladgaming7146 you have no idea how big Ashok Leyland is they are the third largest manufacturer of buses in the world
@@Romeo_O_Mhahahaha and? That's like saying nvidia is a massive company because its the largest maker of graphics cards in the world. The bus making industry is tiny compared to any other vehicle manufacture.
History of ERF Trucks
I'd like to see a video series of the USA fallin trucking companies
You don't see loads like they had back in the day, even in my day 69/plus in NZ with the Austins we still loaded them up till they neally dropped, Fun times they were.
Used to drive a roadrunner in work,loved it,cracking vehicle E883 RHB,had it from brand new,was upgraded from a terrier,that really was a dog(pun intended)
In Jamaica leyland trucks built this country
Leyland as a colt following in Jamaica and the the standard by with all other trucks are meagured by in this country saddly not many of them are around these days but they are still on our roads.
DI RUFFIS THE TUFFIS SUPER COMET CLYSDALE ALBION DEM TRUCK DEH MI LEARN FI DRIVE FROM LOVE LEYLAND 💘 BAD HOT FOOT
@@talesframyaad9748 i learn to drive from one too its the best
A great story. No mention of the legendary Leyland farm tractors though.
Cracking vid, she even said lancashire properly. Lmao leyland roadtrain "a cab you could stand up in" well you could if you were a dwarf. Great vid, will.be watching the rest.
You could stand if it had a roof hatch!
Any one remember the 500 fixed head series of engines😱
Used to catch Leyland Nationals as a kid and my bus depot I was based at had a Leyland Buffalo recovery truck on it's fifth engine!
ALeylands do not have such sci fi looks, but they are rugged and very very durable.
Thank you for making this video. A couple of points. The Factory in Surrey was at Kingston on THAMES, not pronouced THINES. Major error, there is mention of the Egonomic cab design, designed by AEC at Southall. AEC was part of ACV group Associated Commercial Vehicles, which included Crossely Motors of Manchester & Park Royal bodyworks in West London. Leyland brought the ACV group in 1964. 1968 saw Leyland buying a 50% stake in both Bristol Commercial Vehicles & the Eastern Coach Works (ECW) which had been STATE owned from 1948. The other 50% share was owned by The Transport Holding company, which took overt the Tilling & British Electric Traction bus companies which then formed the STATE owned National Bus Company.
Small error on my part ACV group was brought by Leyland in 1962. This included the bodyworks in Leeds of Charles H Roe. Another error by me, no one is perfect. Leyland brought a 25% holding in Bristol Commercial Vehicles (BCV) and Eastern Coach Works (ECW) in 1965, both being before this time STATE owned and unable to sell their products on the open market. Leyland Marathon was the last lorry type built at the former AEC works at Southall, West London. The factory was also still building the AEC Reliance coach chassis too, but Leyland closed the factory in 1979.
Leyland trucks are still active in jamaica..
And in India
I run a few in england
There’s still a Turkish Leyland concern, plus an Indian one & I think a Nigerian one.
Great video. Just a minor point but "Thames" is pronounced "Tems"
..and "MK" is mark....
@@colinmunro7337 I did not know that - the things ya learn.
My name is tems
Except in Connecticut.
Yanks cannot speak English
Interesting. At 13.37 it looks like the Duke of Kent. Everything is by design.
Leyland Mammoth, my first heavy truck....we were both smoking after our first time lol!
Keep on trucking Leyland!!!
Leyland are in Jamaica and people love them the old ones
Leyland is a blessed truck make a joyful noise unto the lord all Leyland when it's throttling it goes gallang gallang gallang
I like the answer of leyland in 1984 releasing there answer to the Ford cargo but still in india this truck named as ecomet by licence from Ford
Make history of Pegaso trucks
What about the clydesdale?
Interesting stuff, but you completely murdered the pronunciation of Thames ;)
I heard no mention of the threepenny bit
Can see history of erf trucks ?
Leyland 💋CAN'T GET OVER MY FIRST LOVE 💘
Anyone know if an MK 2 was actually only a mark 2?
And Kingston-upon-Thaymes?
Is that near Kingston-upon-Thames, does anyone know?
Most interesting - also sad because they no longer exist.
Paccar also acquired foden lorries in 1982 ..
Great video, I am a big leyland fan. Please tell the narrator to try to change intonation to raise voice less at the end of the sentence.
Despite British leyland’s bad reputation, they made some good motors.
We have many leyland trucks in Jamaica
Leyand trucks are like the Nokia for trucks
The best leylands are in my country
Jamaica
Just look for some videos on RUclips and u wilp see how we cherish our leylands
Make the Leyland brand name come to life again
love my austin / leyland 830 wf series truck
I love daf great to watch
Leyland motors built the Centurion main battle tank, one of the most successful tanks, the IDF will attest to it as the Tank that won the 1973 Golan Heights battles against the invading Syrian army T-55, T-62 Tanks in the Golan Heights...
She didn't mention the Leyland beaver, I wonder why 🤔🤣
"Nice beaver!"
"Thanks! I just had it stuffed!"
Slight mistake the first 14 T45s we’re actually badged scammell
Thank you. Super Film... Leyland lorries from Leyland Lancashire were exported to all corners of the world....At Leyland now is just a Daf cab interior fitting out line... The vehicles arrive from Holland on specially made De Rooy transport lorries... Then ship back to Holland or sold in England.. Sad as The UK do not make any lorries... Let's All Keep On Trucking Along The Highway of Life.... Bravo for Super Jack's Chrome Shop...44 Tonnes of Thanks..... Douglas Vick. Old School(very) International Lorry Driver. Cheltenham Spa U. K......
Leyland trucks currently fully assemble all DAF models 5 days a weeks, Eindhoven (Holland) do not produce the LF model range which are made at Leyland Assembly Plant and shipped around the world, De Rooy do however ship the cabs from Holland for the CF and XF model ranges and Renault France for the LF model to LAP.
Thank you for the Info.I load paper at Farrington works. Evokes memories for me... Thanks..... Douglas Vick.
ASHOKLEYLAND 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳 INDIA
in India we love ashok Leyland in our heart , the power the quality ,
Ellerine sağlık cok güzel çok yaşa büyük leyland
A very American take on British history. Hard to follow all those unfamiliar model naming conventions. Subtitles in English would be great 🤣
Great brand and video! Thanks got this. Please make video of Pegaso, the most important and mythical brand of trucks and supercars in Spain
I started driving heavy trucks with T45's they were never as good as other brands I also drove, M-B, MAN, Daf and for me the best, Volvo & Scania. However the little Roadrunner was a great drive with Cummins power.
Compaaaaaaaanies
Ashok Leyland fan from India 🇮🇳
Pena que não tivemos essa marca no Brasil! !

Buenas tardes sus videos son muy tenicos gracias por favor tradusirlos para en tedederlos mejor que Dios los protejan asta pronto
Drove a Leyland boxer for years I have two very bad knees now
The seating was all wrong
But it was ok to drive
No mention of the big Leyland long bonnet body trucks in Australia the 1950s and 1960s, which hauled proper road trains of around 3 or 4 trailers. They, and the 8 wheel Foden body trucks were the big rigs of the day until the B61 Mack’s started to make inroads in the 1960s. The American derived trucks, with their greater horsepower and hauling ability led to the phasing out of the British models.
Idiosyncratic British trucks needed a lot of expertise to keep on the road, and the American trucks proved to be more simpler and more reliable.
There is a book called ‘Road Trains of Australia’ which is well worth reading.
I waiting to see an episode about TATRA Trucks please make a video about Tatra
Leyland name is still going on in India under name of Ashok Leyland which is one of the famous and trusted commercial vehicle brand of India... Ashok Leyland Ltd now belongs to Hinduja Group...
Please do for Bedford truck story
Good video but leyland never owned Foden, which was an independent maker who eventually were bought by paccar who years later bought the the leyland manufactureing plant
Ashok Leyland 👍👍🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
