  • Join me on our captivating tour on the interior and exterior of the enchanting Inveraray Castle, nestled on the picturesque West coast of Scotland. This stately home and its breath-taking gardens offer a truly immersive experience that transports visitors back in time. As you explore the castle, you'll be swept away by its unique blend of grandeur and history.
The interiors are adorned with intricate tapestries, antique furnishings, and priceless artwork, showcasing the opulent lifestyle of generations past.
The castle's gardens are a haven of tranquillity and natural beauty.
The castle was also the setting for the Christmas special of "Downton Abbey" in 2012. This iconic castle served as the backdrop for the beloved show.
Furthermore, Inveraray Castle holds a significant place in British royal history. It was the cherished residence of Princess Louise, the great aunt of King Charles III and daughter of Queen Victoria.
Remarkably, Inveraray Castle remains a living testament to its past and present. It stands as the cherished home of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, infusing the estate with a genuine sense of continuity and authenticity.

Outstanding! Inveraray Castle is totally captivating! Both inside & out! I love the color of the stone of the Castle. It has a lovely green tinge to it. I always wondered why the stone was this color. This makes the Castle even more unique & lovely! Inside, the decor is very elegant & beautiful! As well as, the grounds, gardens & views from the windows & the Castle are just breathtaking! Also, inside the Castle, I especially recognize & love the stunning Dining Room & the Arms Hall Entranceway from the Highland holiday Episode of Downton Abbey. As well as various spots outside the Castle.
Such as the archway where 'Lady Rose' met 'Anna' & 'Bates' & he offered her a peppermint, as she had been sneaking a cigarette, trying to get away from her domineering mother's constant criticism.Ahh the memories! Downton Abbey is my all time favorite Series & I loved this episode, when they stayed at 'DunEagle Castle.' I also love how one can still see the Photographs of Matthew & the other 'Crawleys' still on the walls there. How nostalgic & wonderful! Inveraray Castle is magnificent & totally unforgettable! Thank you for sharing this truly delightful experience!🏰

Wow Annie! It sounds like you absolutely loved our enchanting time at Inveraray Castle! 😄😄 That greenish tint on the stone really does give it a distinctive and charming character, doesn't it? It's one of those little details that make a place truly different. It's evident that you have a deep appreciation for every detail of this splendid place. 😊 How great is it to recognize spots from Downton Abbey? And that archway where 'Lady Rose' and 'Anna' had their moment - what a lovely connection to a beloved series. 😉Thank you for sharing your lovely comment on Inveraray Castle. It was a delight to read! See you soon 🤗🤗😘🏰😊

It is hard to believe that the last time we all saw a photo of ERII was when she greeted PM Liz Truss at Balmoral on September 6th and two days later on September 8th she left us. It's an attractive castle with really nicely done window shapes on various floors that enhance the architecture. Glad the Duke & Duchess of Argyll still use it as their home. They have a big gathering of Campbells there from around the world once a year, I believe. I will be interested to see if the 1960s scandal relates to John Profumo, Stephen Ward, Mandy Rice-Davies & Christine Keeler. The state dining room is quite beautifully appointed. They seem to get some decent light into the rooms. The light colors on so many walls and the windows not overly hung with draperies help give a light and airy feel to the place. Some current family photos amidst the ancestors portraits and there are some old silver decorative pieces that are exquisite. The gift shop has appropriate gifts for the region. There don't seem to be many people or is it all open so regularly that the crowds never have to form to all get in to see it? I guess it shows off their splendid raspberries well by combining those flavors in their yogurt, because you know they do not grow coconuts in Scotland! The sandwich and salad ingredients look fresh and delectable. A perfect refreshment amidst the visit. You got some great angles on your shots of the exterior of the castle, especially the metalwork. Now I see a few more visitors walking about. I do recognize that archway. I so love that the house and gardens are not overdone in any way. They are stunning, yet have a certain calming simplicity, I find. (By the way, I was able to confirm the good book for preparing to see Bletchley Park is "The Secret Life of Bletchley Park" by Sinclair McKay. It gives one a fascinating insight into what really went on there when folks were saving western civilization.)

Thank you Philippa! Your beautifully detailed account of Inveraray Castle paints a vivid picture of its charm and grace. It's evident that you have a keen eye for the nuances of architecture and design, and your appreciation for the light and airy ambiance is palpable. The mention of the family photos amidst ancestral portraits and the exquisite silver pieces adds a personal touch to the grandeur.
Your observations about the gardens and house exuding a calming simplicity resonate so beautifully. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for the valuable book recommendation for Bletchley Park. So thoughtful of you! I can't wait to get a copy! 😉😊Your words truly bring Inveraray Castle to life, and I'm grateful to have read them. See you soon. 😘💗
