400 episodes is a crazy milestone, and to still be going (for however long) is wild. Meredith Grey became Ellen’s entire career, and I’m sure that isn’t what she expected when she first put on the scrubs. Thank you for so many seasons of memories watching with my mom and my friends, for always giving us something to talk about at school or work on Friday. I was 9 in 2005, I’m almost 27 now. Grey’s has been around for so many era’s of my life it feels weird for it to move on without Mer. But I know I’ll still be watching come February, because of course, the carousel never stops turning.
She said in one interview that she was interested in the role was because at her age, most roles for women her age were as mothers. She thought this role she could be more versatile and sounded interesting to her. As years went by, she grew with the character and only more roles as mothers were available for her age and gender. She killed it and definitely props to her for sticking with a role that long!

Not gonna lie... I'm a little heartbroken. But I think this will be a positive step for Ellen, and it might also breathe some new life back into the series with such a major change-up. Time will tell, but I will continue to support my Grey's family.

I don't even get some of the people they kept that totally do not match the OG casts original they use to have that left. I so don't get it, I use to be such a fan of the show and if they going to change it, at least cast better. I dread watching it now, but I do want to like it because the Grey show has been around forever and I did love it, want to support it. Torn, I recorded it, but have not gotten threw it lol.

I'm one of those who spent 20 years in active addiction so I missed a lot during that time. Thankfully, due to technology, I'm able to download whole seasons/shows and watch at my convenience and Grey's Anatomy was one of them. Having finished ER I was looking for a similar show and this show, Grey's Anatomy totally enveloped me with such good acting, writing and personalities. I have binged on it so much and it's been a good "high"! Even now, I won't watch the current season until it has finished and I can watch one episode right after another without waiting for it to be aired. When Christine Yang left, a significant part went with her, being she was my favorite character, and to say the show can continue after Ellen having left I think we're only fooling ourselves. She has been blessed to have had such a positive and secured future during her working career and we have been blessed being a part of that experience. I wish her and all the supporting actors and actresses continued good fortune.
Personally, I don't think I'll continue to watch this current season with her not being around, I bet it'll feel weird watching the show without her like the way I felt watching the show without Dempsey, but one thing is for sure though, I'll still rewatch previous seasons, watching old episodes brings nostalgia, gives out amazing energy. (specially seasons 1-5)
Me too.. I love rewatching the old seasons. The first crew was the best, u really get attached to basically all the characters. I hated when Christina left, for me she was the best character. After her it wasn’t the same but I kept watching until season 12. Then I kind lost interest in the show. But I will watch it eventually.

This show has genuinely inspired me to consider taking my psychology degree into the medical field, and not only that, but it’s inspired me to push forward despite any and all hardships, to be a shark when I need to be, to be a shoulder to cry on for my people-that’s another thing it’s taught me; family isn’t always blood. You can choose your family and I have. I love this show, I love her, and I’m sure I’ll still be watching it years from now lol!

I didn't quit after George, I didn't quit after Lexi and Mark, not after Derek, *almost* after Alex. But Meredith is where I draw my line in the sand. She is the show. And Ellen herself has said over the last few years she was wanting it to end too. I understand the writers want to keep the show going but Shonda has said when Ellen is done, so is the show.
It's been a wild ride with Meredith grey and Ellen is right she has been on the show for so long and she does need to move past it but for me it heart breaking to see her leave. but at least she will still be in some of this season for season 19 but still im sad but happy for her that she can move passed greys! we will miss you Ellen!

I thought she was just stepping away for a bit? I've been binge watching and on S11 now, there are definitely a few story archs where she wasn't as present because they had plenty of characters and story lines. I'm glad she's taking a break, she's worked so hard and deserves it.

The house she shared with Derek? Ummm… it’s the house she shared with everyone: George, Izzy, Lexie, Alex, Jackson, April, Callie… after that, Cristina, Arizona and Jo and Amelia and Maggie. Very few characters have NOT lived in that house. That house has been a HUUGE part of the show.
Shonda is such an amazing person that I’m not worried about what will happen after Ellen leaves. Maybe we’ll get more memorable characters that die off less.
Finally! I’m happy for her. She deserves to get on and explore other opportunities in life. They need to just end the show though! She’s the main character.

I thought they were gonna end it a long while back. Why is it still on? I stopped watching many seasons ago. Crazy that it's still on! Scandal came and went. How To Get Away With Murder came and went. Private Practice came and went. Grey's Anatomy? Still breathing with a broken lung. Crazy to think Shonda Rhimes started out on ABC and now she's doing other amazing projects on other platforms. I love watching Shondaland productions.

As much as I enjoy the show I have to admit it’s long since become pretty unbelievable. That so many crazy tragedies would happy to one person gets a bit hard to swallow. I mean, the odds of being in a mass shooting, plane crash, bomb, almost drowned, Covid, so many more, and now house fire, by lightning strike?!? I mean…dude….this makes winning the powerball look easy 😂
i would love to watch the other characters continue their storylines, especially the new interns AND LUKE BEING A NEW SHEPHERD ON THE SCENE -- because we did get attached to the other characters just as much, but it will be very odd to not have Meredith every single day. i hope she continues to come and go so she can still provide the entertainment but not have it be her entire life as it has been thus far but only if she wants to. i would just hate for her to feel like she NEEDS to come back. she's a fan favorite. we will love meredith grey forever and always!!!

Grey's Anatomy without Meridth Gray is the same thing as the Harry Potter movies without the Harry Potter. It's so absurd, that the series should end, dragging it on even more to make money until it ends, it's certainly ending the legacy of the series
I think season 20 should be the end of Grey's. It's should be dedicated to the entire cast bring everyone back one last time christina and Alex should be there along with izzie and Callie and Arizona. Mers last patient should be her first patient. That was her first surgery with Derrick. Amelia would be with and saves her and that's how she says good bye to Derrick to Seattle to greys.
i hope we see some old characters obviously no one compares to Mer but it be a good way to see what everyone else is doing like calzona at this point i dont even care if Izzie appears lol
I got up to season 16 and honestly just a bit fed up of everyone dying. Delucas death following the child trafficking story (which wasn't even shown on Greys Anatomy!!) - SO unnecessary. I'm sure there have been some good storylines since but it's gone on way too long in my opinion.

I feel you on that! I rerun Greys on netflix..ive watched 3 times until about the 10th season..when all my fave characters (besides Mere) left or died off ..especislly Sandra Oh n Sarah Drew i couldnt keep on watching

Honestly my favourite storyline on the show this season is hers with Nick also with Zola. I'm sad, but I might keep watching since I'm a loyal grey's fan. Still heartbroken though.

I thought she was just stepping away for a bit? I've been binge watching and on S11 now, there are definitely a few story archs where she wasn't as present because they had plenty of characters and story lines. I'm glad she's taking a break, she's worked so hard and deserves it.

I personally haven’t watched the show in a long time but I can’t imagine how “Grey’s Anatomy” will go on without Meredith Grey. Maybe the rest of the cast is good enough to carry the show for a while but not long term. I hope I’m wrong for the sake of those who might need the money now.

The house she shared with Derek? Ummm… it’s the house she shared with everyone: George, Izzy, Lexie, Alex, Jackson, April, Callie… after that, Cristina, Arizona and Jo and Amelia and Maggie. Very few characters have NOT lived in that house. That house has been a HUUGE part of the show.
Not to mention it was her childhood home, but ofc they’ll exclude Ellis when paying homage to Meredith, as she’s her own extraordinary

I guarantee this isn’t the end of her character. These posts were probably a way for the main people involved in the series to confirm that this reduced role was just for this season and she’ll be back for season 20. I’m sure of it.

I thought they were gonna end it a long while back. Why is it still on? I stopped watching many seasons ago. Crazy that it's still on! Scandal came and went. How To Get Away With Murder came and went. Private Practice came and went. Grey's Anatomy? Still breathing with a broken lung.
Crazy to think Shonda Rhimes started out on ABC and now she's doing other amazing projects on other platforms. I love watching Shondaland productions.

As much as I enjoy the show I have to admit it’s long since become pretty unbelievable. That so many crazy tragedies would happy to one person gets a bit hard to swallow. I mean, the odds of being in a mass shooting, plane crash, bomb, almost drowned, Covid, so many more, and now house fire, by lightning strike?!? I mean…dude….this makes winning the powerball look easy 😂

There goes my theory of the show ending with Meredith having Alzheimer’s and it was all just her reliving her life before she succumbs to it.
That can still happen she's still going be showing up up some times
i would love to watch the other characters continue their storylines, especially the new interns AND LUKE BEING A NEW SHEPHERD ON THE SCENE -- because we did get attached to the other characters just as much, but it will be very odd to not have Meredith every single day. i hope she continues to come and go so she can still provide the entertainment but not have it be her entire life as it has been thus far but only if she wants to. i would just hate for her to feel like she NEEDS to come back. she's a fan favorite. we will love meredith grey forever and always!!!

The only reason 90% of Fans stayed through all this bullshit after Derek died was Meredith. Now she is gone to. Literally the viewings are going to drop so fast they’ll shut the show even before the planned ending.

Grey's Anatomy without Meridth Gray is the same thing as the Harry Potter movies without the Harry Potter. It's so absurd, that the series should end, dragging it on even more to make money until it ends, it's certainly ending the legacy of the series
I think season 20 should be the end of Grey's. It's should be dedicated to the entire cast bring everyone back one last time christina and Alex should be there along with izzie and Callie and Arizona. Mers last patient should be her first patient. That was her first surgery with Derrick. Amelia would be with and saves her and that's how she says good bye to Derrick to Seattle to greys.

I got up to season 16 and honestly just a bit fed up of everyone dying. Delucas death following the child trafficking story (which wasn't even shown on Greys Anatomy!!) - SO unnecessary. I'm sure there have been some good storylines since but it's gone on way too long in my opinion.
