BTS have been around since 2013 and have had five number 1 albums in the US since 2018, they were also the most successful recording artists worldwide in 2020 and sell out stadiums all over the world. They are loved for their genre-defying music (they do anything from pop, EDM, R&B to hip-hop and rap), their powerful live performances, meaningful lyrics and messages, sincerity, humility and special relationship with their fans, who have made them break through the industry barriers as an Asian band. There are four vocalists and three rappers in BTS. They usually sing in Korean, by the way. Butter is a stand-alone song. Usually the songs are part of narratives that connect albums in story arcs. It's their second English-language single after last year's Dynamite. Dynamite is a disco-pop track with some funk influence as well, I think. Both singles were released to cheer people up during the pandemic, so they are feel-good songs. BTS' music is very diverse and the members are usually heavily involved in the writing and production together with their in-house team. In that respect Butter is a bit special because most of the song was written by western songwriters (although BTS member RM wrote the rap parts). As you love funk, I recommend you check out Ma City: it's a funky hip-hop track in Korean and will give you some idea of their versatility. This is how Suga one of the members of BTS defined kpop “I’m a little careful to talk about K-pop as a genre because I don’t want to be defining Kpop as a genre”, “I’m a little bit wary of that but I think rather than approach Kpop as a genre, a better approach would be ‘integrated content.'” “‘K-pop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach K-pop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.” BTS do it all hiphop, rnb, pop, edm, latin, neo-soul, pop/rock, and jazz. They have over 200 songs so there are songs for everyone's taste.
BTS has three rappers and four vocalists/singers. The three rappers are the first members of the group, that is why BTS was supposed to be a hip-hop group, but later on, the CEO decided to debut it as a K-pop group, so it is not strict to hip-hop. They are philanthropists and have addressed the UN General Assembly twice in conjunction with their Unicef Love Myself campaign. Their mission is to help people do just that and that love is realized and returned to them in such a way that they say it's helped them to do the same, be more accepting of who they are. They will address the UN GA again next month but as presidential envoys for South Korea. Bang Si-Hyuk has been an integral part of all of this, not just as chairman and visionary but writing, producing and being a hyung (brother) to the guys. And a brilliant businessman as well. Not heard of “Teddy Riley” being involved in BTS. That being said kpop groups have always credited R&B writers when they have been collaborating or even influenced by them. This group is pure Korean home grown created by a small Korean company in 2013 who gave these 7 boys creative freedom to write and produce their music. That company has now through BTS become one of the top 100 companies in the world and bought Scooter Braun’s company whose artists include Justin Bieber J Balvin Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato. .. it’s almost gonna hit 300m views (in 2 weeks since it premiered) if it does by today it will be no.2 on the RUclips record for fastest 300m views replacing their own hit last year Dynamite. Key Info: - if you plan on reacting to more BTS (which i hope you do), besides 'Butter' and 'Dynamite' all their other songs are either Korean or Majority korean (for their MVs there is always subtitles, just click the 'cc' button in the bottom right) - BTS has 3 rappers and 4 vocalist - 2/3 of their rappers were underground hiphop artists in Korea before joining BigHit (their label) - the other rapper was a street dancer before joining BTS (he won many championships aswell) - BTS combines all genre's of music into their discography, if you want to hear a style just ask (ARMYs such as myself will help with getting that since we have experience with their discography) i myself am a kpop multi-stan (meaning i follow multiple groups) and BTS' 7 is actually a common number in male kpop groups, there are plenty large (The Boyz - 11; Seventeen - 13; and NCT - 23) I hope you continue down the BTS rabbit hole, and possibly the Kpop rabbit hole you should definitely check out a bit more of their discography before getting to know the members and the group (this is so we can almost tailor your journey as an enjoyable experience) much love from a somewhat knowledgeable ARMY (their fandom) 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 ^^^ ARMY and BTS use purple hearts (since purple is our official color)

There is nothing wrong in saying they have broken through the lens of the kpop world... Also I know where I get my facts from. All the places where knetizens post their opinions say they no longer see bts as just idol music. They are still idols but they go beyond that. I have no problem using the term idol. But the whole kpop word was used by westerners to 'other' Korean artists and they stuck a bunch of stereotypes on that word as you said.. so its best not to use that word or associate that word to bts cus it drags them down to some low standard where korean artists are considered to be corporate and manufactured.

Only started listening to KPOP around 2017 / 2018 because the two daughters started delving into them. And now they are totally into KPOP but not confined to BTS. Look for BTS Armypedia live where they reworked 3 of their earliest tunes into an unplugged very low key, a bit funky and r n b live performance. “No more Drama”, “Just One Day” & I like it. For EXO their earlier tunes have that blackstreet sound. Growl and Overdose. Their solo outing, Baekhyun’s U.N. Village and Bambi. I think you might like these two songs
kpop groups tend to be bigger than western groups not always of course but there are many really big groups such as nct (23 members), seventeen (13 members), treasure (12 members) etc

Teddy Riley has produced a few songs for the vocal kings of Kpop, EXO, also Red Velvet, and others. I highly recommend What is Love (pre-debut EXO), Call Me Baby, Tempo (EXO), and Bad Boy (Red Velvet). Be careful because “Kpop” will suck you in, and the rabbit hole is unending!

I get you dear. Based on Bang PD's recent speeches, I think BigHit has taken ownership of kpop recently & plan to redefine it. For example he specifically said that they will do that kpop reality show in USA and the winners will be trained in Kpop style. HYBE/BigHit has become so big that they are in the position to do this. Some fans don't like it because of the negativity that inflict the industry. BTS has more to gain by staying in the "kpop" scene. If they are no longer kpop they can no longer qualify for so many awards which are mostly for the kpop industry. Also kpop is not a genre so BTS is free to do whatever they want while remaining in "kpop".

It was around 113 million but youtube took some views away so the official number was 108.2 million views.

Key Info:
- if you plan on reacting to more BTS (which i hope you do), besides 'Butter' and 'Dynamite' all their other songs are either Korean or Majority korean (for their MVs there is always subtitles, just click the 'cc' button in the bottom right)
- BTS has 3 rappers and 4 vocalist
- 2/3 of their rappers were underground hiphop artists in Korea before joining BigHit (their label)
- the other rapper was a street dancer before joining BTS (he won many championships aswell)
- BTS combines all genre's of music into their discography, if you want to hear a style just ask (ARMYs such as myself will help with getting that since we have experience with their discography)
i myself am a kpop multi-stan (meaning i follow multiple groups) and BTS' 7 is actually a common number in male kpop groups, there are plenty large
(The Boyz - 11; Seventeen - 13; and NCT - 23)

This is there 2 song in all engliish, the first was Dynamite and both was on Billboard 100 as nr 1. There Korean songs Life Goes On also was nr 1 and the 4 nr 1 was Savage Love remix whid Jason Derulo

K-pop means .. Korean pop music .. BTS is from Korea and they are Korean musician.. BTS songs are can be called K-Pop.. and what's up with devaluating K-pop.. it doesn't neccessary to do that.. K- Pop is popular and their musicians are very talented .. BTS is super good !! i know but their are quite many good musicians and artist among K-pop too.. devaluating K-pop dosen't make BTS better or greater ..at all !!

So from the beginning they set themselves as a new standard. There is nothing wrong in saying they have broken through the lens of the kpop world...
Also I know where I get my facts from. All the places where knetizens post their opinions say they no longer see bts as just idol music. They are still idols but they go beyond that.
I have no problem using the term idol. But the whole kpop word was used by westerners to 'other' Korean artists and they stuck a bunch of stereotypes on that word as you said.. so its best not to use that word or associate that word to bts cus it drags them down to some low standard where korean artists are considered to be corporate and manufactured.

Only started listening to KPOP around 2017 / 2018 because the two daughters started delving into them. And now they are totally into KPOP but not confined to BTS. Look for BTS Armypedia live where they reworked 3 of their earliest tunes into an unplugged very low key, a bit funky and r n b live performance. “No more Drama”, “Just One Day” & I like it.
For EXO their earlier tunes have that blackstreet sound. Growl and Overdose. Their solo outing, Baekhyun’s U.N. Village and Bambi. I think you might like these two songs

kpop groups tend to be bigger than western groups not always of course but there are many really big groups such as nct (23 members), seventeen (13 members), treasure (12 members) etc

Teddy Riley has produced a few songs for the vocal kings of Kpop, EXO, also Red Velvet, and others. I highly recommend What is Love (pre-debut EXO), Call Me Baby, Tempo (EXO), and Bad Boy (Red Velvet). Be careful because “Kpop” will suck you in, and the rabbit hole is unending!

I get you dear. Based on Bang PD's recent speeches, I think BigHit has taken ownership of kpop recently & plan to redefine it. For example he specifically said that they will do that kpop reality show in USA and the winners will be trained in Kpop style. HYBE/BigHit has become so big that they are in the position to do this. Some fans don't like it because of the negativity that inflict the industry. BTS has more to gain by staying in the "kpop" scene. If they are no longer kpop they can no longer qualify for so many awards which are mostly for the kpop industry. Also kpop is not a genre so BTS is free to do whatever they want while remaining in "kpop".
