Believe it or not he's a civilian. He's a kinesiologist. He is also a world champion indoor rowing competitor. The military hires civilians all the time who happen to be specializes in certain fields, on his case kinesiology.

I bought this to replace a very similar item whose foam grips had worn after years of use. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxwyoGHi-cCLV1AqJYj7QeIWKSpdRMYPF1 This one is is even slightly better than the old one I had! (Sorry I don't remember the brand or model.) This bar sits a bit higher in the doorway, giving me more ground clearance for movement, and the foam grips and foam pads that protect the doorway are thicker. It was also very quick and easy to assemble. The only minor gripe I have is that the hand grips in the middle are really tight on the bar, and therefore hard to slide along the bar if you want a wider or narrower grip. You have to be patient and gradually work them into the position you want.
you can tell this guy has a lot of physical and mental strength. He was able to keep his voice at the same level whether he was doing a fast pull up or slow one and i can't do that. After i do a few pullups i can barely catch my breath this guy was doing them especially the slow coming down one like it was nothing.
it will only take you 1 to 2 weeks of doing this to actually be able to start doing full correct ones, i never believed it either until i started this exercise.

Good God, he makes it look like pure butter! FYI- I went a long time not being able to do pull-ups, & a lot of individuals can't do them. I was finally able to do them by performing some shoulder focused weight exercises (Lat Pull-down, Bent-over Dumbbell Row, etc.), & by always giving it a try on the bar near my door every time I passed by it. Eventually I could do them from a dead hang, & crank them out. Now I can do them with a 20lb. vest on. My advice is go for it, but mind your joints!
I know the response is late, but BUDs is mostly mental. Don't go overboard with physical preparation, nothing you do will prepare you. What you need is the drive and desire to become a SEAL no matter the pain, struggle, cold, whatever. Of course don't go in a fat slob, just do regular exercise. Not to seem like a spammer, but visit extreme seal experience. That will tell you what you need to do, it's run by Don Shipley who has a popular RUclips as well.

I go there everyday looking for ways to improve myself. I would prefer a guy who will get the job done in my opinion. I watched a video of SWCC training, where this black guy got hurt. He got banged up really badly, but he kept on pushing and passed the class. He fell behind on The Tour, but his classmates helped him even though he could barely run on that knee. I would love to have him on my Team. He shows he will not give up unless he falls dead.

i train my own way which i call ULTIMATE pullup technique, I do 2 pull ups per day 6 days a week, one in the morning and one at night before bed. now just 2 pull ups you say? HAHA but heres what I forgot to mention my pull up goes like this, take 5 minutes to lift myself from dead hang to chin over bar, then another 4 minutes to return to dead hang position i do this with just my own body weight no extra weight needed though i already weigh 225 lbs. Try my technique any day SEALS and let me know

The instructors go harder on you because you have to be better than the other guys because when ur in the field you will be leading them. Yeah i can see were you can get that from, but in a sense we all do 'want to be' a SEAL and i believe and one who strives to be one is already hard as it is so wannabe is a fair term in my mind. However an alternative from me is usually aspired SEAL
All NAVY pull up testing is done with palm facing away from body. All NAVY SPEC OPS candidates practice doing pull ups with palms away, palms toward body & palms facing each other (commando style). All testing is always done with palms out.

All the way up 'til June of 2001 the Rangers did in fact wear black berets, but because black berets are now the standard throughout the entire Army, the Rangers changed theirs to tan. It's sad because berets were hard-earned distinctions years ago, but now EVERYONE in the Army gets a black one to "symbolize unity" or something like that. From plumbers to infantrymen LoL

@JPLjanitor kipping is much easier as you are using your momentum to assist you in the up motion, while dead hang pullups dont give that advantage. kipping will give you more reps but doesnt build the same muscle endurance as standard dead hang.

Don't you think telling people who wish to try out for this should do wide arm pull ups to maximize strength in the lats only because you can always do close grip chin ups to target biceps later?
Damn, :/ I had jaw surgery and there are metal plates and screws in my mouth. I am hoping MEPS allows my medical papers in. I am atleast hoping I can get a waiver, although I think they can be picky with waivers. I do my usual stuff as if I didn't have them, I just have better breathing and jaw motion. The dr said everything would be like normal, just MEPS likes to treat us as if we were bubble boys....
Their tiny little screws, and I believe they can't set off metal detectors. That would make airplane security very awkward.... I know they can't do the shit they say or threaten, but on the other hand I don't know what they CAN access. I am only telling them of this surgery and no others, nothing to really concern anyway.

What if you were trained like a boxer, for instance pacquiaos trainer made him do 2000 sit ups a day and more rigorous exercises, and had a resting hear beat of 43 beats per minute and didn't train in high altitudes at all, what if you were to train like a boxer in high altitudes like skiers that have a resting hear beat if 38 beats per minute, or probably take in EPO would this make you more efficient in making it through buds?
@GUMMYBEAYUH I can still only do 1 and I'm not allowed a pullup bar at home (16 years old so not 'in my own place' yet) so try them on a tree but the shoulder advice is great, thanks. I don't have a lot of the equipment but I can already go longer after 3 weeks of military shoulder press and lateral raise using dumbbells, e.g. I used to do 1 and that was it for the workout (100 pushups, 100 situps, 50 triceps dips, 50 squats, 1 pullup) but now I'll do 5 sets of 1 before failing. Thanks.
And I don't consider us all "wannabes" sounds like a person who wants to look the part or whatever. I consider us all SEALs in training, cuz we are training but we aren't there just yet. We have the mindset of it all, more than the usual person does. But we just aren't there yet.

I did negatives…would just jump up and hang and try to hold and gradually come down. Then one day I could magically just do them!

The SEAL PST is done with Dead-hang pullups, illustrated in this video. The palm-facing-you is called a chin-up.

I think pull ups work the lats and chin ups are the ones that involve the biceps.

I think you mean "girth-y" bars (lol, girth), but yea, definitely makes it a LOT harder because it requires more extra hand strength as well.
