Thank god for this video. no one in the shop knew the correct name for the thimble
thimble is a terrible name.
Thanks for the great video with no added BS. Now I can make sure my tie out is assembled correctly so my idiot dog doesn't escape 👍
The tie out is for short periods of time, never left alone or unattended, no hazards in the area, etc. I can only walk so far and when the dog refuses to go potty, she's not coming right back in the house to poop on my floor 💩
If I can’t use it for over head. What other option do I have? Lifting a dirt bike with Lange Originals lift.
Same, except I’m lifting a light weight trailer to the ceiling in my garage.
Was really hoping to see a reply on this question
Hey kimball! love the content! What camera are you guys using for this ?
Rob is a delightful and a well composed presenter. Lots of great information here and it is very appreciated. A note to the video producer is dump the dated and distracting sound track. YIKES! If you have ADHD or are hearing impaired this background noise is a significant drawback.
Such a great video. Quick, informative and all inclusive
I was doing good until I got to 2:55, why can't you use wire rope clips for overhead lifting? And if not, what can you use? I'm building a pulley lift system in my garage with 1/8 & 3/16 cable connected to a hand winch to lift 100 lbs to the ceiling. I didn't want to purchase a swaging tool for ferrules so was hoping wire clips would work.
Get a 1tonne block and tackle. Reasonable cheap now.... or get a lifting chain
Purely safety. Wouldn’t want the clips to slip/fail and take that 100lbs weight on the head.
Similar thing with chain… you need a minimum grade 80 chain for overhead lifting.
You could likely get away with it, but it’s a ticking time bomb.
Agreed, it's weird. Every theater I've worked in used wire rope clips to secure the battens hanging over the stage. I'm not sure the warning is correct, unless it's just to warn DIYers who might get it wrong?
EDT: if someday someone else needs to know, forged U-bolt clips are 100% intended and designed for overhead lifting - this video is flat out wrong. DO NOT use double saddle or malleable for overhead lifting. Consider Grainger or another similar industrial retail outlet for forged clips & wire rope.
Wow I did it all wrong. Well got to go back and change everything. Thank so much
I never knew what the thimbles we're for but now I do! Thanks 👍
Thanks! For heavier duty wire rope, say 5/16, what is the best method or tool to be able to shape the wire rope around a thimble, so that you can then more easily apply clips? We seem to wrestle getting our 5/16 cables around the thimbles, and then more specifically get the clips in place...thanks!
I'm using small 1/4" single saddle clamps and my ratchet won't fit between the nuts because it's too thick. Where to do I find thinner ratchet attachments?
I wold like the video but it's got 777 likes.
Is there a link for Kimball Midwest Wire Rope Products specification shown in this video?

Great video and articulate instructor...thank you!
No captions. Would be helpful
Thanks for the information.
Brilliant. Very useful thank you !
I heard if you are desperate lets say in the middle of nowhere , and you have four nuts and a hammer you can thread the nuts through the cable and hit the nut w/ the hammer till it slowly collapse the nut closed and tight ! In other words smash the nuts to the cable w / hammer !
Why would u have 4 nuts, cable wire and a hummer lol
Awesome. Gonna try today!
Wow. So little views. Unfair
How to easily remove vinyl coating from wire rope?

Really well done
Can I buy this at my local hardware store?
I did.
How to climbing the steel wires?
Nice
this guy gives nothing away
better without the music
Even better still. ..throw the clips in the scrap bin and use cable crimp ferrules ..
Can you get these at the loc hardware store typically? The crimper also?
Is that union (using wire rope clips) strong as the cable itself?
Why do people get shown the wrong process to form a Flemish soft eye in wire rope, people believe they know & show the world wrong process. Signed Frank.
I separate the strands of the wire, roll an eye and intertwine the strands back into one another. You really don’t even need a clip or clamp except for keeping the tail tight from separating. The method in the video is not correct. With any real amount of force, the clips wouldn’t hold. I recommend using the strength of the wire itself.
sir that is splicing
@@gswnba5162 No, I was referring to rolling the eye. Splicing is pretty difficult with wires or cable. That’s a lot more work than rolling the eye.
What do you mean by "rolling the eye?"
Why give false information to public who are given false information by people who think they know the proper process. Very dangerous. Signed Frank.
Really informative thanks!
