- Lonesome George is the last of his kind, a Pinta Island species of the giant Galapagos tortoises. David Attenborough tells his extraordinary story as two legends meet, just a few weeks before Lonesome George's death...
Lonesome George was a male Pinta Island tortoise and the last known individual of the species. In his last years, he was known as the rarest creature in the world. George serves as an important symbol for conservation efforts in the Galápagos Islands and throughout the world.
From David Attenborough's Galapagos, Season 1 Episode 1, "Origin": Sir David Attenborough travels to the Galapagos, charting the archipelago's explosive rise from the ocean millions of years ago and looking at its unique wildlife. In the first episode, David Attenbourgh discovers the plants, animals and landscape of the 16 Galagapos isles.

Who actually brings up someone dying before they are dead? wtf is wrong with people these days? Seriously. How do you even know you won't die before him? @Gary P sadly it's not only China.... people have just become lazy and will take the easy route anytime possible. Humans have already desecrated and ravaged this planet beyond repair...
@@gballs007 if you want the environmental damage to the Earth to stop we need to stop buying products from China I don't think people understand that 80% of what we use in our everyday life is made in that country and a lot of unnecessary things too all creating pollution and destroying the planet. is it a coincidence that in the last 20 years climate change has become a lot worse the same amount of time China has been making everything ?

@@florencemodina6293 atheist* 🤦🏽♂ can't even spell it properly
I used to love this man,but in recent years he is showing his hatred of humans. Every episode I have seen him in the past 10 years,he has to do a section of the episode on how mankind is killing the planet. "There are too many of us,and not enough resources to sustain all other life. We are polluting the oceans and are the reason the climate is changing" He Is doing the work of the overlords,to imprison us,and eventually kull us. I love this planet, and have learned so much from these stunning nature programs, but I will not be preached to by a man that is nearing the end of his long life of comfort and privilege. He does more air miles in a year than I have in my 54.
@@atmywitsend1984 no one’s perfect and his mission is still a good one. How can we not see our ways being wrong if not shown how/why it is so? He’s not wrong in what he’s saying, even if you don’t like his message and it’s not hard to get infuriated by the situation as you literally see this beautiful place being destroyed over the years and have not enough people around you get as much of a damn as you do like he has and does. If more people traveled and saw it for themselves, they’d see it too. Instead, they just have to take his word for it-assuming they even cared to do so while sitting in the comfort of their home going about their day when they’re done listening to it all. I don’t blame him for going about as he does! You may find it annoying and frustrating because he goes on about his mission saying what he does, but put yourself in his shoes and see why he says what he has in the manner that he does. There are far more people who will never wake up to what we’re doing to this planet and who just don’t care than there are the ones who will stand up and do something about it enough to turn it around. If you actually saw it first hand like he did, it’s no wonder the hatred for human life when so many are just selfish and don’t care and you feel like your whole life’s mission is pointless and going completely unheard. There’s a reason why many people who’s spend more time around animals grow to hate humans because animals tend to still love unconditionally even after all we do to them. Humans as a species are unkind, don’t care and are self absorbed and we ARE wiping out all of these helpless, defenseless animals for no good reason except to have it serve us! That’s very sad! Anyone who has any empathy in the world, does so more for the helpless ones, not so much for the ones who don’t return the feelings in the same way. We know how to save this planet and yet we choose not to more so than we choose to do so. Animals and the destruction of this planet as a whole are all in their situations because of us! We don’t have anyone to blame but us for doing so. So it’s not hard to see why he has so much hatred on that front! And quite honestly, I stand on that side as well because the older I get, the more I can see how humans don’t always get it right even when they’re going down claiming that they’re all are until the end. If I’m going to fight for anyone, it’s going to be for the ones who can’t help themselves and the ones who need it more, not the ones who know better yet choose to do nothing, and we OWE that to the animal species on this planet be of what we’ve done to them by no day of their own. Humans are egotistical thinking we can do what we want and not have to suffer the consequences of our choices. The cons are real and we’re all suffering from them as a result that. Even the good people out there, who are doing right are still also suffering as well because their effort aren’t enough to save us because there are still far more out there who do nothing and don’t care or help. It’s a hard battle and the ones who care, many times do so so passionately that it breaks them because they care too much. In order to save this planet, we ALLL need to feel like that to make the difference we need to make a big enough impact to make the change we need to see to turn our problems around! He’s not wrong on us killing the planet and if that all makes you mad, it’s probably because you know deep down inside that he’s right. You can choose to listen to his message and do your part or ignore it, either way, it’s not going away until we have a massive effort in the right direction.
This just made me incredibly sad! We must do more to protect our wildlife.😢
Indeed. It is inexcusable how humanity is regarding animals, still in this day and age.
nvm -
Right, like the camera man could have stopped those rats from eating the eggs instead of just filming it’s possible extinction
