    Well.... on 8 stops. I did read a blurb by a physics guy who determined that 6.5 to 7 stops is about it. It seems the Earth is spinning, and coupled with what direction relative to the spin one is pointing in, that appears to set the limit. Sensor shield- I want it bad. BUT- the same junk that would land on the sensor is now on the shield. The shield flips in and out, and surely it must create an internal snowstorm of debris. I'd love to hear from someone who has a shield and whether it makes a difference. And... can you clean the shield??

      Oh interesting on the number of stops thing and physics! I'll have to try to track that article down.
      And yeah, even with a sensor shield, you still have dust getting in there. Maybe it would just add to the problem. I actually have not heard from someone with a sensor shield that has stated it makes it better.
      I believe Canon has a mechanism to protect the sensor during lens changes, I do have friends that say they don't have to clean their sensor that often.

      Z7 is a solid camera as well. My biggest complaint is the lack of a second card slot, which for landscape photography isn’t as big of deal in my opinion. I do wish Nikon would trickle down a few features to the first gen through firmware, the clean view display for composition being the feature that jumps to mind. I really like that feature on the Z7II and the first gen Z7 and Z6 don’t have that option if I recall (unless Nikon finally fixed that).
      I swear, if I ever look to replace my FLMs, I’ll be looking at Leofotos!
      Thanks for watching George!

      @@JeffreyTadlockPhotography Hey Jeffrey, Thanks for reply and You're Welcome!
      I am in full agreement with You, and I do NOT believe they have or will, issue a Firmware update for the clear view, which is a shame. It would also be nice to have the VF display ‘flip’ when shooting in vertical! But after all, Nikon has always been a bit of an arrogant company, a view shared by many others. I bought my Z7 late, on a good deal from B&H which was sort of a ‘clearance price.’ I should have waited and picked up a Z6II, so I will always have buyers remorse. Not disappointed with the Z7, but the dual slots/ dual processors, etc, would have been nice. Only fault to find with the Z7 is the WB and the abysmal time keeping of the clock! It is ridiculous! I have other cameras that I will pick up and find the time to be off only by a few seconds or a minute. My Z7 routinely is off by more than two minutes. My D500 is much better, and my old D7100 is like a Swiss Quartz watch! 😆 * rant over *.
      FLM makes a fine product. I like Leofoto, and hope they aren’t listening when I say FLM is a better product. FLM just needs to have better representation by vendors, and not have such mediocre packaging and contents included, IMO. Leofoto’s Customer Support is superb. They continue to innovate and update their product lines, and now offer a Lifetime Warranty! Not to take away from ‘Ari’ with FLM. He is great! Take care Jeffrey. Stay safe and Happy Shooting!

    My Z7 II is nearly perfect for my needs. It's smaller, lighter, and I don't need the very latest autofocus bells & whistles or video. It is also much more affordable then the Z8. The main things that would make me consider an upgrade would be a fully articulating screen and a sensor cover while changing lenses. Even so, I don't think those features are worth another $1K (Z 8), and I don't want to give up my smaller form factor. Ideally, I'd love a Z7 III with those new features, but with the same form factor and the same price as the Z 7 II. So a 7 III would interest me, not so much a 6 III.

    • @JeffreyTadlockPhotography
      @JeffreyTadlockPhotography  5 месяцев назад +2

      I agree, the Z7II is such a great camera. I have a couple of nitpicks, but even if those were all fixed or updated, hard to justify spending a lot of money. I mean, even the Z6II is a pretty solid camera
      The form factor is really big for me as well. I really don't want the camera body getting bigger - that alone keeps me from the Z8, it is just too big for me and how I use the camera.
      Thanks for watching!

    I do some astophotography, so I like the bigger pixels in the 6 and 6II to gather more light in the dark.

      There can be pros for the 24.5MP, I still do some portrait/event work and I actually prefer that resolution for those types of situations.
      Do you think 33MP is a nice spot to be, or creeping up on too many pixels?

  • @clarkejones8090
    @clarkejones8090 5 месяцев назад +1

    Cheers.
    EVF eye point 23 mm or, preferably ,greater, Taller grip, Price not more than Z6 ii, More Megapixels, Sensor Shield, good stabilisation, Focus Stacking, pixel shift. I do not care about frame rates, buffer or focus tracking capability. I would not mind if the camera did not offer video capability. I am mainly keen on taking photos of landscapes, stationary objects, and portraits of trees and other plants.

    • @JeffreyTadlockPhotography
      @JeffreyTadlockPhotography  5 месяцев назад +1

      Similar list to me. Would love for the price to not be higher than the Z6II, I think it will be higher though. I don’t really need impressive video out of this camera either, but it seems like lots of manufacturers are moving that direction.

  • @stanobert3475

    I agree with you that 24 megapixels is not ideal for landscape photography. 33 megapixels is better for landscapes and for all around use. If I was starting out in landscape photography, I would look at the Z7II which is on sale now. I owned this camera and I loved it, but I traded it in for the Z8 because I do more action photography than landscapes. A big advantage of the Z8 is that it has the option of shooting space saving high efficiency* RAW files and it has a sensor shield. It is also on sale now. I would be pleasantly surprised if the Z6III has a sensor shield. I am hoping for a 33 megapixel sensor, but I don't think that this is going to happen.

    • @JeffreyTadlockPhotography
      @JeffreyTadlockPhotography  5 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, I think 33MP is a sweet spot and makes for a really versatile camera files aren't too big for higher volume photography events, but still high-enough for those times you want a little more resolution or some cropping room.
      I actually like the Z8 specs and features. The biggest deterrent to me on the Z8 (besides I feel like I'm paying for video performance I don't really need for my use case), is the size of the camera body. It just gets so bulky for the pack. I feel like this is less of a problem for other genres though - if I still did more portraits than landscape, then the size of camera body wouldn't bother me as much.
      Either way, looking forward to the announcement. Even if the camera isn't for me, I hope it adds to Nikon's lineup overall.

      @JeffreyTadlockPhotography I could use a 24 megapixel Z6IIII with its clean high iso, but it will unlikely have the silent electronic shutter of the Z9 or Z8. Shutter sounds in the theater are a no-no. I will likely pass on the 24 megapiixels. I can also use my Fuji X-H2s with primes for the theater with its very quiet mechanical shutter. Your excellent video clarifies a lot of issues.

    I have a z6ii and it works well with the Zelda L bracket and I like that it is small and lightweight. I may get a z7ii for more megapixels at some point. The Z7ii takes the same L bracket so I don’t have to buy a lot of extra things and it is also lightweight. But I like your outline of possible benefits. Food for thought! Flippy screens would be great for macro work.

    • @JeffreyTadlockPhotography
      @JeffreyTadlockPhotography  5 месяцев назад +1

      I love the Zelda L-Bracket! Very happy with mine, I keep one on both my Z7II and the Z6II - different colors so I can quickly know which camera to grab! It is nice that similar accessories, extra batteries, etc can be shared between the 6 and 7.
      Yep - that 2-way tilt of flippy screen would be nice for portrait oriented work or awkward shooting angles.
      Thanks for watching!

    I just hope Nikon Acknowledges that the z6iii specs has to stand at least 3yrs ahead and that it's competing with the GH7 and the A6800/6900/A7V :) it's not like they are the only one making cameras, they have to put in worthwhile upgrades that are future proof

    • @JeffreyTadlockPhotography
      @JeffreyTadlockPhotography  5 месяцев назад

      That's a really good point. The upgrade shouldn't just be an upgrade over what we have today, but also a means for them to have a competitive offering in this "category" of camera - both within the Nikon system and against other camera systems out there. Thanks for the comment!

    I sold my Nikon Z6ii to buy a Nikon Z7ii (I'm a resolution snob.). I sold my Z7ii when I bought a Z8 to join with my Z9 (I shoot a lot of movement shots and the screen blackout and low frames per second were the primary reasons.). If they come out with a Nikon Z7iii with at least 45-61MP, at least 15 fps RAW, and great autofocus, with a not-too-much-bigger than the Z7ii size and weight, I might add a 3rd camera for travel and hiking. But, I doubt I would go for the rumored specs of the Z6iii.

    • @JeffreyTadlockPhotography

      Nothing wrong with some resolution! I really like the resolution of my Z7II, it helps support my habitual cropping habit!
      The Z6 and Z7 series are such a great size for travel and hiking, I really don't want to see them get much bigger.

      I think wildlife is a good use case for even these rumored enhancements *especially* if autofocus is one of the things they include. I think it becomes much more attractive in that use case.

    I think people that already own a Nikon Z6ii will get a lot of info from this video but this video was not really dedicated to people who dont already own a Nikon Z6ii like myself. I own a Lumix S5ii and think its great and would have bought the Z6ii if it would have had a flippy selfie screen for vlogging. I just discovered that panasonic is completely 100% worried about appealing to the Green crowd and though its their choice however I dont want to spend my hard to get money realizing they are spending precious advertising money trying to convince me about carbon neutral this and that. So I am sure that I will sell my Panasonic camera and lenses for a Nikon Z6iiii no matter what. Video specs are more than enough for professionals and hobbyist like me that want exceptional auto focus and stabilization. If this is close to my Lumix I will be totally happy and I hope Nikon continues to focus on their cameras and not political agendas like panasonic is choosing to do.

      The video was definitely more focused on existing Nikon users. Maybe once they announce the actual camera I will do a broader video about how it stacks up against other camera brand offerings.
      I'm still hoping Nikon surprises me with what the Z6 III has!

    Now it's out and you have to be a real Nikon fanboy to say it's not a huge disappointment for any use in landscape photography. Maybe an upgraded Z7 III will cater for those. The Z8 is definitely not worth the money for landscape photographers even if some youtubers (and Nikon) would like you to think so.

    • @JeffreyTadlockPhotography
      @JeffreyTadlockPhotography  5 месяцев назад +1

      I agree - I don't see the draw for us landscape photographers. I don't even see it as an upgrade to my backup camera body the Z6 II. And definitely not over the Z7 II I use for my main body.
      I passed on the Z8 as well, I have a video somewhere on that and why I passed on that camera.
      This does leave me wondering where Nikon is going to leave us landscape photographers. I'm fine for now with the Z7 II, it has and will serve me well, but I do like knowing we landscape photographers fit on the road map somewhere. Maybe we'll get a Z7 III for our niche.

    • @MrBlubb80
      @MrBlubb80 5 месяцев назад

      @@JeffreyTadlockPhotography For me the Nikon Z6III is basically a Sony A7 IV - however, it is 50% more expensive (2k vs 3k). It offers less resolution, potentially a bit less rolling shutter artifacts - and otherwise?

    • @JeffreyTadlockPhotography
      @JeffreyTadlockPhotography  5 месяцев назад

      @@MrBlubb80 It has been awhile since I've looked closely at Sony. The few I've held never felt great in my hand and I've been happy with Nikon over the years, but you do make a very good point about the Sony A7 IV!
      I'm hoping Nikon comes through at some point for landscape photographers by the time I really feel like I *need* an upgrade path. But if not, then I would likely take my Nikon blinders off and look more closely at other systems again.

      And yeah, the current rumored specs are not falling into the must have category for me, more of a wait and see I guess.
