The last time i went there was around 1999, wow its like 25 years+ ago. Never been there since then. I don't remember there was pen pal, but ICQ was famous back then. Subang parade, IOI mall, Summit USJ, Mid Valley and Sunway Pyramid was my meet up place back in late 90s till mid 2000s.
Serdangians here..what I can say is, old times more merrier because beside got unique canal & boat cruise, it's actually have a small theme park called Mines Wonderland..the main attraction is the snow house..more facts that I can give regarding Mines mall nowadays: 1. The extension part in the last part of video is Mines 2, but it's really a dead mall extension. Only consist hotel & ballroom, and sometime got small fair event like bundle fair & book fair being held. 2. One more attraction that keep the mall still stay standing is the Mines International Exhibition Convention Center (MIECC) that located just besides the mall. Many events & fairs being held there, and it's gather so much visitors & crowd from all Malaysia. One of the biggest event being held is Animangaki, 2nd biggest ACG event (anime, comic, games) in Malaysia that usually held in August annually. 3. The Mines area in night/midnight also still alive because the presence of Uptown Night Bazaar located at old Mines Wonderland site. Like other night bazaar in Danau Kota or Shah Alam, many people still go there to shop cheaper goods.
As an ex-UPM student, this was the go to weekend hangout for us, before IOI putrajaya opened. Last time there was a commuting boat ride connecting the mall with the Serdang KTM/Bus station for only RM2. Then downtown Mines moved to that place and it closes off that boat jetty for good, not opening even after downtown moved away. Nowadays I came here only during annual Animangaki event or sometimes Big Bad Wolf sales on the convention center next door. Parking here is a lot, since it extends even to the convention center lots next door.
Serdang ppl here, we seldom come to this mall one of the reason is due to the traffic from South City to The Mines is quite terrible... a better choice for us is just abit further away from here is IOI City Mall... anyhow, sometimes if look for some IT and electronic stuff, The Mines Level 4 is a good choice too.... but only limited to OFF-PEAK traffic time~
Mahatheer era malls all dead he built using mamak nmvrain sure dieloh never think surrounding traffic ,rental also super high income negative after pay rent
used to live in serdang, this mall was my go to childhood location to lepak with friends. been awhile, sad to see the mines resort is dead, along with most malls these days
Before this shopping complex bulding come, just have THE MINES WONDERLAND. Since 1998 this shopping Mall open i like come shopping here and remember have supermarket first before CAREFOUR this name XTRA supermarket. First time open so have many2 people come here shopping and verry meriah. Have TGV cinema here shopping complex, i watching TITANIC movie 10x kali. So memory with here shopping complex. TQ Min for remember my memory with here The Mines shopping Mall ❤😊
I first visited this mall in 1998 when i was staying in PJ Section 17 then. I travelled to KL train station and took a KTM komuter to get there, via a overhead bridge which was so high 😓 It was during Commonwealth Games time and i saw some of our national bowlers having coffee break in one of the cafe/restaurant. In late 2000s, i used to frequent this mall during weekends with my wife as we visited my bro in law who studied nearby. As i moved further to shah Alam/Klang area, i seldom step foot on this mall due to distance, only visit it when i brought my family to Big Bad Wolf book fair and the last time was 2019 just before the pandemic, we went to the book fair and having dinner at Esquire kitchen.
ahh... I remembered last time when I was very little, I went to a mall with a river with boats inside it, but can't remember which mall... now I remembered haha also, having music in your video is a nice touch
True dat. Mines does bring a lot of joy during my teenage years as well. It has that wow factor the first time I laid eyes on the canal with boat rides. Not to mention the fishes, massive! Got that sentimental value this mall.
The driving range nearby also makes this place unique. Drop off the family at the mall and go relax at the range, it's a good combo, but I wish it was easier to get to from Puchong...
In my opinion I think the mall management should really consider building a pedestrian bridge between the Serdang KTM and the mall. It helps to boost foot traffic.
Used to stay opposite The Mines but moved out of that area about 2 years ago. It is 15 mins walks from my place but I still prefer to drive there cutting through the tunnel connected to another condo. Basically quite an OK neighborhood mall. Have Celebrity Fitness (closing down soon), TGV there is cheaper than anywhere else, Lotus downstairs, OK enough F&B like MCD, Ah Yip Soup Shop, Esquire Kitchen and plenty of marts. Basically for ppl who stay in that area, we will either go IOI Putrajaya or The Mines, depending on the needs because to exit to enter Seri Kembangan/Cheras Selatan area is just painful even during weekend.
Oh yeah, I forgot about this mall. Been there so many years ago.. Anyways good of you for these videos. You may consider the malls in Ampang / Pandan area. Many with 50% or less occupancy.
I am working quite nearby to this mall. It’s my quiet getaway during lunch because its so peaceful here. You can order your fave McD and kfc meals fast, without having to que or putting up with clueless amoi hogging the touch screen order lol
Hi Chester great informative video as always. Maybe can consider Amcorp Mall for the next video? Another mall that's relatively empty compared to its heyday.
I really hope The Mines will be able to revive itself, such a wonderful memories here since i am just living nearby for 24yrs. Its losing badly to IOI Putrajaya but still OK comparing to Emirin Mall next to my home 🙁
The nearest MRT is Bukit Dukung station and then a taxi or grab is required to reach the mall. It's not very convenient. I think the mall can become more popular if there's a shuttle service that goes from Bukit Dukung station to the shopping mall.
Idk is that from your location perspective, but the nearest MRT station is actually 1.5km/5minutes to the mall which is MRT Serdang Raya Selatan station, and it's got MRT bus shuttle service at there. More over, KTM Serdang station also just around the corner. While for MRT Kajang line that maybe you want to mention, more near to the mall is MRT Batu 11 station instead Bukit Dukung..
If there is a big seminar here and it finishes at 9.00PM, more or less the time the mall closes, more than 1 hour you can't get out because only 1 way out. The other way out which is through the rich people residences is block.
They used to have a shuttle boat ride from the opposite of KTM station into the mall for just RM2 per ride. Not sure about now as we have not been to the mall for ages. It doesn't round the lakes, but you get to experience riding the boat into the mall.
Visited the mall when it was first opened because of the canal. Took my kids for a ride. Can't recall how much it cost but can't be high as we have 6 of us. Never went back as it is too far from Subang Jaya where I stay.
The Mines is not so bad really since there are some nice places to eat, MR DIY, a partially updated arcade, and a clothing thrift shop (JJJ) which I believe would be good anchor tenants to attract several age groups. But I mostly recognize it as a place for ACG events since Animangaki and some other minor events usually use the exhibition center beside it or the mall itself as a venue. I personally think its complete mall, but I fully agree that the transport to reach the mall is still confusing as I went for a meetup with my friends there, but we all took different routes despite taking the same LRT Line and the traffic during events or weekends can be really congested.
Been here for big bad wolf sale like ten years ago. Ample parking space due to a convention center. Theres lots of food options and gym. Problem is: 1) confusing road to the mall, I cant get into the right road to the mall even with gps bcoz the high way split into 3 just after a bent 2) despite all these years, public transport is technically still as bad since thrs no lrt station near it 3) this shld be your Magnus opus to date but it is marred with the voiceover, reducing the whole surrealism that the viewers otherwise would have.
Visited this mall few times when was a student here, especially when there is Big Bad Wolf. But when IOI opened, I prefers there as it is only 10 mins ride from my hostel.
It is the horribe traffic jam that deter us to go there but there are time I need something, I will come here because parking is a bit easier compared to IOI city mall that is so congested during weekends.
I think I last visited back in 2000 , and now my young ones (already grown up ) doesn't visit it because they don't know all these old areas even though each time I went there I brought them along
Please do a video of Centrepoint Bandar Utama next, which was actually founded and owned by the same company that founded malls including 1 Utama and Starling, which is See Hoy Chan, and it was later taken over by First Nationwide Group, and right now it is now managed and operated by M Holdings currently
@chestercheng.realestate Yea I already know that, I just hope that you will be able to do a video of Centrepoint Bandar Utama soon, plus I am just stating an interesting fact that both 1 Utama and Centrepoint were once under the same owners in the past
Back then the mines was quite a legendary mall.... i think there's the ice skating ring way earlier than Sunway did, there's a snow house too way before icity or genting... and its also one of the earliest mall in malaysia that come with bowling lanes.......
drivg fr my place takes only 10m to IOI putrajaya whereas 30m to the mines..it also depends on the traffic..distance not much differ..mines quite empty while IOI too much to wonder..2nd longest mall in asia..😊
I rmb I went to mines wonderland too but since mines wonderland has been taken down, the mall vibrant slowly fades. Even not much ppl for the boat ride...
They lost the "Wonderland" feel. It was such a catchy name. They should reconsider reviving the theme park, and if they can market it like how Sunway Lagoon did. The old vibe might be back
Been there long times ago,as i remember all the access to mall is blocked by multiple overlay highway and only those traffic direction come from bukit jalil is easier to entre the mall while other direction and surounding neightbour need take very far detour to cross the highway before reach mall entry. Not sure if this still the case there.
i still go here after more than 20 years. i dislike huge malls with high people and traffic such as ioi city mall and one utama. i will always go here and support the smaller malls. There is one time when the mines renovated the original face (the that have ice skating and game center) to a new face and suddenly there is a lot of people. i didn't come here that time. only when the is less people that i came back here.
almost impossible to get parking when you go on the weekend years ago. but right now not anymore. they close theme park, food court, bowling, kareoke and make it boring
This mall is limited by the traffic congestion fr KL and Sri Kembangan. Most of time the traffic is jammed due to bad traffic flow planning. When new,it was attractive due to the attractions of a theme park(outdoor) especially during festivals seasons and the exhibition mall(Mines Exhibition Hall) next to it.After the closure of the park and less exhibitions business, the shopping mall suffer drop in traffic. Moreover, people in Sri Kembangan would rather go to the modern IOI City Mall and fr Balakong they would go to Aeon Mall in Cheras.
@@chestercheng.realestateTo answer regarding anime events, every year in August, the 2nd biggest anime event in Malaysia called Animangaki being held at MIECC beside the mall (some year it's being held at Sunway Convention Center at Sunway Pyramid). While recently, other organizer also use MIECC to held their own anime event called Nijigen Expo that usually on early months of the year.
Hahaha.. Only for this video. The rest of the video will no longer have background music. It's easier to record live then doing a voice over back home. As I have to re-watch the raw footage and talk again
The singapore company asking too high rent make alot of retailers say bye to them they dont understand the culture and rental rate for msia market. They're using based on singapore style management. Almost all of their malls arent doing well
@@chestercheng.realestate It's funny I worked and lives in Singapore but many of the Singaporean themselves like to go to shopping mall in JB... Some of the malls here are very quiet too 😅
Used to go there just for the book fairs, I stay near by, but over 10 years, I think I only visited this mall less than 20 times, the theme park was attraction before it closed down, the traffic going to this mall is one issue, they only have one major entrance, when the outside road is jam, you are dead 😂😂.
I recently (2 years ago) moved to Seri Kembangan, just 5 mins away from The Mines. I visit The Mines every week for grocery shopping (at Lotus) and fast food dining (McD, Zus, Starbucks etc). I love this Mall as a neighbourhood mall, it has a charming vibe (probably due to the canal) and not too crowded. Usually the foot traffic on weekend is more, much more than what you experienced in the video (maybe because it's not dinner time yet), usually a lot of families with kids. I think there's not much reason for people to travel to this mall, but I think the neighbourhood here appreciate this mall and the Mall will serve its neighbourhood quite well. Also noticed the management of this mall is doing a lot of activities to boost the traffic, keep it up!
That was in front of the Giant (now Lotus), and that Giant also was 2 storey, covering the ground and first floor, now the first floor on top of lotus is almari boutique, i think.
@chestercheng.realestate not surprising since it doesn't feel claustrophobic than nearby malls, particularly Alamanda. Parking is confusing and expensive but once you learn the tricks, it's fine. Best go when people are broke as the mall is less packed
I only came to The Mines when there are anime event. That means I only went there once a year. I also went there back then during the Big Bad Wolf sale. That's really a long time ago.
Apologies for that. I have lowered the background music a lot, during the editing phase, sounds ok. No worries other videos are raw and live only this video my microphone died on me
Still waiting for your strand review... By the way can you review Amcorp mall and Main Place mall in Usj 21? In the future, maybe to mix it up a little, you can also review smaller malls that are quite successful, not the Sunway pyramids, 1U, KLCC, MV or TRX
@@chestercheng.realestate Amcorp mall is only fair to compare both weekday and weekend because it is dead on weekday, while weekend is much better due to the flea market
I work at our regional HQ at Level 6 Amcorp Tower many years ago. Wondering how the mall look like today. The most crazy things about Amcorp are finding parking spot 😂
tengok youtube ni baru tahu banyaknya mall malaysia, tapi siyes aku pergi KL rasa macam stress dan tak tenang, flyover bersepah, perancangan mengelirukan, tempat jalan kaki pun xde
I remember the Big Bad Wolf book sales used to hold it sales there 24*7days at the Mines Convention halls. We go there for the water taxi boat ride where the water lock gate controls the water level up or down and go for the 30 minutes scenic lake rides. Now we seldom go there but I remember feeding the big fishes swimming around there with bread crumbs thrown around the mall water channel. Fishing is prohibited in that big lake area and the fishes have grown mighty big there. I might go back there if there could organized more family outings and maybe some fishing competition events yearly for fishing enthusiasts since there are so many big fishes swimming around the lake. We don't have to catch the fishes to bring home but release it back into the Lake. Maybe offer some prizes for the biggest different fishes caught there, etc. How about a small speed boat race along the channel to see who is the fastest competitor to finish the race? Just like the crazy hot wheels small car events in some shopping malls. I am sure any family water events will bring the crowd back to the mall. The wonderful unique water designed mall where the channel leads into it offering beautiful scenic spots to eat or spend your leisure quiet times there. That was the last visit since the books sales event have move elsewhere like you said we stayed in PJ and no reason to back there.
I remember meeting my pen pal a girl at this complex. In 1994. Also I dated my present wife in 1998, watching movie here. Now I am 58 . Time flies.

There are some
Real OG would remember the original exterior design of this mall which looks like a tokong.
I did not realize that
@ yeah, they renovated around 2013-2015 if im not mistaken. I still prefer the original design tho.
Please review 1shamelin
The video for this mall is coming
do a video on ioi citymall, 1 Utama and Sunway Pyramid soon
Those malls are successful malls.. Maybe in my next series
I remmber when there was mineswonderland, ice house back in 1992
if i remember correctly, last time MATTA used to have their Matta fair at Mines2.
So every year they will have anime event at the Mines? Which month of the year?
@@chestercheng.realestateTo answer regarding anime events, every year in August, the 2nd biggest anime event in Malaysia called Animangaki being held at MIECC beside the mall (some year it's being held at Sunway Convention Center at Sunway Pyramid). While recently, other organizer also use MIECC to held their own anime event called Nijigen Expo that usually on early months of the year.
went to golden horses hotel for a dinner 2 days ago and passed by this mall
LOL our brother put happy background music so that this video won't look like the death bells of a dying mall 😂😂
Almost all of their malls arent doing well
Strangely you're right. Many of the malls that are managed by them are currently doing badly
@@chestercheng.realestateeven at centre of the city bukit bintang they manage to kill it.
Not sure, but does seems mall that the lots are individually own, are harder to manage.
Mines retail leasing are managed by central management
@chestercheng.realestate not sure why it does not attract as aeon balakong.
You should do 1 Shamelin Mall. You know a mall is dead when Jalan Jalan Japan is there.
That mall is on the plate, will publish soon
Also noticed the management of this mall is doing a lot of activities to boost the traffic, keep it up!
there also used to have Speedy Video, where i used to buy DVD and VCD's
I think Speedy Video retail chain close many outlets
@ ya lo. So sad.
That was in front of the Giant (now Lotus), and that Giant also was 2 storey, covering the ground and first floor, now the first floor on top of lotus is almari boutique, i think.
"Boost" Spoiled it become "Ayam Penyet Boost", is it accidentally forgot to Cut or Part it as 2 different shops?
IOI City Mall, Alamanda and Dpulze for me
IOI City Mall is the current magnet. Crazy packed
Me either the hall quite big.
Hmm... haven't heard of this mall before
U must be a baby....
Huh how come
Wow, really?
people used to go here for cinema and Giant, but now Giant already gone
Background music is a little too loud and distracting. Would rather hear what you have to say.
Amcorp Mall video is on the way
@@chestercheng.realestate Amcorp mall is only fair to compare both weekday and weekend because it is dead on weekday, while weekend is much better due to the flea market
Amcorp Mall holds a special place in my heart, and for many PJ oldies too. Can't wait for the video.
I work at our regional HQ at Level 6 Amcorp Tower many years ago. Wondering how the mall look like today. The most crazy things about Amcorp are finding parking spot 😂
Malakat Mall in the making 😮
Please visit Plaza Damas/Hartamas next
Thanks for the recommendation. Will take a look
Mines got ntg much to do now
used to have an arcade last time. where u play spend time playing games. now think no more
One after another would close due to poor purchasing power😂😢😢
tengok youtube ni baru tahu banyaknya mall malaysia, tapi siyes aku pergi KL rasa macam stress dan tak tenang, flyover bersepah, perancangan mengelirukan, tempat jalan kaki pun xde
No reason to come here anymore. The last time was many many years ago. Good luck.
Assume Carl's Jr Burger are gone?? Very nice burger.
Yes, gone
Background music too loud for this episode
Apologies for that. I have lowered the background music during the editing, but somehow it still louder than expected
Where they move big bad wolf to? I though they no longer have it since mco.
@@l_ifeefi_l1998 this year is at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre
I doubt it can make a comeback. For better shopping experience and joy, IOI City Mall is a better alternative.
They need the "Wonderland" effect back. Yes, the IOI City currently doing extremely well which pulls a lot of the foot traffic
More to Balakong not Seri Kembangan
cause got ntg much to do there now
The background music is very annoying.
Apologies
