I saw the Damned 1981 when I was about 14. I've seen them several times since. They were my favourite band. I saw them a few years ago in Oxford, they're still brilliant to see live
Dave morphing into his Phantasmagoria phase. Soon, Captain and Paul Gray would have left leaving Dave, Roman and Rat to reform the band with Bryn on bass. So glad to see Cap and Paul back with the band and touring.
There was a year or so where Bryn was in but Captain hadn’t left the fold yet. I think Bryn joined in February ‘83, maybe March. The very first time I saw the Damned was in June of ‘83, and Bryn was definitely in by then. Captain didn’t officially leave until the tail end of ‘84. That period between Strawberries and Phantasmagoria was a strange, tough time for them. The Bronze label went under and Captain started hinting at going solo after “Happy Talk” and “Wot” became big hits. They did a one-off session in early ‘83 with Robert Fripp on guitar, that didn’t surface until 1990 as “Fun Factory”, then there was the “Thanks For The Night” EP, then the Naz Nomad album, which was the first thing that Roman played guitar on, while Captain was still officially enlisted as a member of the Damned.
You don't see these songs done live very often especially "The Generals". Great footage of what is now the current lineup of this ass kicking band.🕷️🪓🎶
Saw them in Chicago June 1983, my first time. Paul Gray left the band and only these three songs were played from Strawberries. They opened with Ignite. Amazing.
Stranger on the town should be a classic rock radio standard in current year. It would be if they had a proper label atthe time, it's one of those should have been hit songs. Except for realz in this case.
A veces la Televisión de entonces nos sorprendía con estas escasas actuaciones, de un incipiente Movimiento Punk que recordamos y resistimos en seguir perteneciendo en él.

This is the end of their greatest phase.

Thanks for watching and commenting Jay, you were lucky to have seen the Damned in Chicago, does not seem like almost 40 years ago🎸🙂

@@ScottishTeeVee A tí por esta fantástica actuación.
