New York city beautiful 🥰❤️🥰❤️❤️
I'm from Houston
I need more video like this.
Why I live in NYC when I can’t even keep a car 🫤 and I should move to JC for more space.
As a tourist from the UK we are going to try chain food restaurants that we don't have at home 🤷♀️
Before visiting NYC last October for the first time I binge watched your and John’s RUclips channel and it was probably the smartest thing I did. We blended in with the New Yorkers, avoided the scammers, went to local eateries, tipped a proper 20%, made sure to ‘pull over’ so as to not stop foot traffic, and so much more. We loved NYC so much and will be returning soon!
I went in September and yes their videos helped a lot!! I definitely want to go back
And we love you too … please come back. we miss you already
Their automatic tipping expectations are ridiculous
Super fun collab, great insights here!
Your content has helped me plan my trips each time. Thank you for the accuracy of the advice you give!
Two of my favorites!
Love you both!❤
To be honest, tourists don’t bother me at all .. I love helping them with directions or just talking to them
That's the spirit! 👏👏😁
Thank you!❤
walking too slow or stopping suddenly had to be No.1 .. Thank you!!
I visited NYC last month and it’s crazy how my city (Sao Paulo-Brazil) has many things in common with nyc. Fast pacing, everybody is hurrying, subway etiquette, ordering etiquette, etc. love your channel. ❤
Thank you to Jon for saying what I have been saying. No selfies at the memorial pools. I think I heard it from him first but when I go there I made a mention of it to the volunteers there to think about posting a request sign or at least let visitors know verbally to please avoid doing the self image pics at a memorial. Great videos and like the content.
I would never take a selfie at the memorial. Yeah I would take a regular photo, but that’s only to show family what I’m doing and where I’m at in NY because I’m moving there soon and they’ll be worrying about my safety so it won’t even be for public use, just simply showing them NY throw my eyes.
Wouldn't take your pictures even if you ask and these people spend more time on their phone more than looking
At NY as we speak 😉 Watching your videos has helped a lot!
I'm so glad! Have a great time! :)
Sarah, brilliant double-act video, I've watched a load of John's vids as well as most of yours, they're tremendous but the one thing that really pi88es all us visitors off (I'm from Scotland) is the expected 20% tipping - why on earth are these employers getting off with under-paying their staff but expect visitors, who have already paid thousands of dollars to get to NYC in the first place, to pay their wages (or most of it). I've been to NYC 7 times so I do pay it, 15% used to be the norm, 20% as standard is absolutely obscene. 10% would be do-able if the service level was good. NYC is the best city on earth, I absolutely love it but the tipping is just too much for most to comprehend.
Get over it honey or go to Paris.
@@queens6583 been there too a88hole

Hi Sarah. Thank you for sharing these videos about NY.. it's so nice to see the places (again) that we have been visiting during Christmas time! Greetings from The Netherlands.
Great collab and V IMPORTANT INFO! ❤️
Thank you!
Sarah
Here is what gets me passed off .
The food delivery workers ( Grubhub, Doordash ,Uber Eats and others) since I work in Park Slope. These people have no concept for pedestrian safety .None. They go thru red lights . Ride in the opposite direction and ride on the side walk . They care for delivery, a rating and a tip.
Here is my tip for them. Follow the law. Don't break it Respect pedestrian safety.
Olive Garden one and done. Did not feel good after I ate at one in Bensonhurst.
I eat at a Bar/ Restaurant in Sheepshead Bay and I give 20 percent. People with selfie sticks are a problem. They stop in the middle of the sidewalk. I rather be with my fishing pole and go fishing than a selfie stick. Great video 👍🏻
Thanks for the advice Sarah !
Thank you!!! I am going to NYC for the first time next week. Feeling a little intimidated… but I feel prepared thanks to you!!❤
i'm so happy you both collab.
We just came back from NY. Most of these behavioral ideals apply to most cities in the world! What I want to see from New Yorkers traveling elsewhere is giving tips in ANY amount for received services!!
What are you on about? Point 8 of this very video was how we tip 20% here, and that's at a MINIMUM. My group and any other NY group are always the ones tipping the most whenever I've been anywhere away from home.
@@joocyman7619 You tip in my country 20% - I tip in NYC 20%, deal?
Well in all honesty I tip what I want: The roomservice 5$ every day, the hot dog guy too. But for example the not so special Chinese in Manhattan too 5$ and NO WAY 17$ what they wanted!!
You’re not very good at putting your thoughts together, are you?
@@fredhammer6413 Do u speak as many languages as I do - German, Swissgerman, French, Italian and Spanish fluently, smart ass?
Walking slowly, not standing to the right of escalators, not letting people off the train! 💯💯💯
Amazing video! Very different and authentic. I really liked how you got together with John for this.
Good informative video! Thanks for sharing beautiful lady😘😘😘 xox
Super stuff guys.... Crazy how fast people walk in new York....
It may be true about the cost of housing compared to a different state/commonwealth, but NYC has its charm and so many opportunities. My son's career really kicked off after he moved to NYC. He is now doing things he could only dream of when he lived in our small town. No matter how good you are, if you are not in the middle of it, you will not get that kind of opportunity.
Actually, I walk at a faster pace than what you showed. And I walked like that in NYC. If anything, I found the walking pace there too slow that it was annoying (I had somewhere to go to!).
Awesome tips!
Totally agree. As a regular visitor I have noticed the deteriorating level of respect shown at the reflection pools memorial. This really pisses me off.
They should put up a sign describing how to behave at this shrine then instead of expecting everyone to become a mind reader. I hope people keep on doing it until they do so because I hate when people assume that everyone is a psychic.
@Yusef Khan you shouldn't need a sign to tell you how to behave at a somber memorial, it should be common sense 🤔
@@DK-vn7lr SO why are people doing it then?
@Yusef Khan because they are ignorant and only thinking of themselves. When you go to a funeral, do you need a sign telling you to be respectful, or do you come in with a radio blasting and all loud and obnoxious?
@@yusefkhan1752 I would have thought it was perfectly obvious to behave appropriately in this area of terrible atrocity without a sign.
Lovelovelove your videos 🤩
Yay! Thank you so much Chloe!
Ah, nice another collab with my 2 most fave NYC you tuber. Great content!!!
At the end of the day Times Square is the worst place in the world, the only reason I ever went there is because I worked there. Since I left that job I haven’t been there for any reason
The lights are cool and fun but it’s really crowded and hectic
I agree with the criticisms but it’s great that it’s lively. Have you ever been to downtown St. Louis and many other American cities? It’s basically a depressing ghost town. Many American cities would love a fraction of the lively feel of Times Square
My sister's friend came to the city to visit, and my sister who lives in Nyack, was not going to be able to connect, so she recommended 3 great kid friendly places. She calls her next day and asks where they went. "Oh, (daughter) wanted chicken strips, so we just went to TGIFridays in Times Square". Sister was so mad! You can go to TGIFridays anywhere!!!!!!
Bless her heart!
Hello Sarah, greetings from Colombia.
Congratulations, your vídeos are very nice.
God bless You.
Great collab! I follow Jon too. One thing visitors irritates me is when a group is blocking the whole sidewalk or entrance of the subway. I mean for real? 😖😠
Being in NYC for the 8th time in June, this isn't new to me, but thanks a million, you can't say it enough.

Thanks for the videos, helped me plan a 48hr trip to the city, with less than a weeks notice travelling from NZ to UK - did you sort the weather to this weekend :)
100% true! I'm a lifelong NYer and not a NY tourist-hater but everyone should watch this video.
Oh, this is going to be good!!
The number 3 bonus tip is soooo important. Its also a matter of safety. # 1 is extremely important.
When it comes to escalators you may not know whether it's the right or left side which you stand on, but if you just pay attention to what everyone else is doing it's not hard to figure it out. There's only two choices! Or if there's somehow no one else on the escalator whose example you can follow, just pick a side and stay there. It's the people who stand in the middle, usually with a huge rolling suitcase, they're the ones who need to be catapulted straight into the river.
Omg when people just stand on line at and don't have an idea on what to order so they hold the line until they decide what to order.
Great video, where was this filmed? It's a beautiful place 😁
The beginning was filmed at The Oculus downtown near the World Trade center. Cool place with shops and restaurants.
I loved this video lol
I visit roughly every 6 months and I use these tips to get the most out of my experience!
Everytime I visit New York, i always stand on a street conrner talking on my cellphone and then suddenly yelling..."Hey I'm walkin here!" and “fuggedaboutit” Man, I always have to run for my life ova there.
Definitely like this area. I wonder if there is free pool access in any of the parks in the area
With regard to the memorial you can easily spend a lot of time if you go to the museum. Although I do recommend it you will be spending a LOT of time because there’s so much to see. Just like the memorial it’s a solemn place and the atmosphere in the museum reflects this.
¡Saludos desde Panamá!!!!!
Escalator etiquette reminds me of London. Same situation.
Tourists blocking the way is a very popular complaint worldwide.
The escalator thing, is a thing in Greece also!
I'm already getting anxiety and i've just heard the first thing on the list!! Also - those earrings are f-ing EVERYTHING!! PS Slow walking in the middle of the sidewalk sets me OFF. I tell people visiting to walk like you drive....move with the flow, don't slow down, if you need to stop, step aside against the building, don't walk three people deep or even two sometimes. I got so good at walking around Times Square that I would sometimes imagine that I was heading through an obstacle course!!
It reminds me of where I used to live
Loved this! I think for any travel knowing the cultural climate for a place will enhance your visit 10 fold! Although some of this seems obvious… I’ve visited NYC on several occasions and tips like this made me
Blend in… I was even asked for directions(internal happiness of mission accomplished). 9/11 Reflection pool & the Museum was such a somber experience as it should be. It was hard not to feel “Strong Emotions “ being there. I can only assume it is very similar to the Holocaust museum. It is cringe worthy to see a lack of respect…I didn’t see much when I was there but the “wet eyes” seemed more appropriate! Sarah, “not pissing off NYers” also has a huge safety benefit, you don’t stand out as a visitor & targeted for scams or theft. So thank you so much! NYC is my ❤City and yes one can get a cheaper place to live or visit but would it be as rich in history & cultural experiences? I love you New York beautiful .
Moo! So I haven't been to NYC since the 90's, and I am dying to come back and do a pizza tour - got any videos on the 20-30 best pizza places? 'Cause if I go i intend to eat my way across all 5 Boroughs!
:=8D
Ommm nommm nommm nommmmmmmmm.....
Just came back from a NY trip. Didn't piss off any New Yorker, it went super well, although I walked the city up and down taking photos from Brooklyn to Harlem, took the subway and stepped aside countless times on the sidewalk to change lenses on my camera. I guess I was a well-behaving tourist😇 Respect those simple rules and you'll be just fine😊 Ok, something about the smiling tourists taking selfies in front of emotionally loaded places, I've witnessed indeed countless tourists at the 9/11 memorial standing in front of remains of the Twin Towers or other artifacts and smiling while taking a selfie like it was some kind of fun attraction, it was deeply disturbing and annoying! Similar experiences I had on Ellis Island which I think is also a place of commemoration and not of joy and fun. It's like everywhere else, respect the place and the place will respect you! 🙏💙🇺🇲🗽
And they tell you off when they do it themselves
Not letting people off the train first or not moving further in so that people can get on. Great video. Even though most of this stuff is common sense or courtesy. It is annoying how many people are not considerate of others. I'm glad that you and your husband decided against moving out of the city because you make the best NYC videos.
It’s because the train is there for less than a minute so I don’t have time to wait for the “real nyers” to be done painting their nails or collecting their homeless bags just so the doors can close and I need to wait for the next one. Be AT THE DOOR when the train arrives. I give 3 seconds for them to leave and then I barrel on.
I remember hearing about several of these in the past including from your videos, so I'm glad I haven't done any of these. I can't understand why people would be smiling or posing for photos at the 9/11 memorial. I remember when I visited the memorial during my trip to NYC that I felt nothing but sadness the entire time. Great video Sarah!
Because nyc is a tourist destination, majority of the world has had tragedies 90% worse than 9/11 that haven’t been turned into a big reflecting pool so they don’t understand the hype, and there is no sign that tells people how to behave. Until they instruct people on how to behave they will continue to do so. So put up a sign and stop expecting the entire planet to cater to you.
@@yusefkhan1752 True, but I do not think you can compare one tragedy to another. And I do not think it is right to play down what happened on 9/11. Many people have lost their lives and their dear ones. So I agree you show up at the memorial and give some respect by keeping it modest. It is not your average attraction.
Jon is NEVER busy. All he does is have fun. 🙂
Watched this video before going and still made the worst offense of stopping randomly at the crosswalk. 🤦 Got a side-eye 👀
I think I my have forgotten to tip at Katz Deli 😔😔😔😔 but I will make it up to them next time in NYC.
As someone whose from Barcelona, this all make so much sense
I went to Times Square as a visitor from Orlando. It was definitely like the tourist traps here in Orlando. Those ppl in the costumes made me almost pissed walking all in the damn way! I stayed in Queens in Chinatown..I do plan to come back with my kids in the future
On my numerous trips to NYC I’ve noticed the problem with the bike lanes tend to be local New Yorkers standing in the lane or jumping out in front of bikes. I don’t think I’ve encountered a tourist blocking a lane. But that’s me personally. The real problem is that the local screams at ME when they are clearly in the wrong.
Waiting at the traffic lights for the cars to pass
That was fantastic, Sarah. Leaving tomorrow with my family to visit your beautiful city, so this video was just perfect! Thanks! Cheers from Italy
On our first trip, my wife and I were standing side by side holding hands going down the escalator. This was the only time we got yelled at.
NYC's #1 Rule: NEVER BLOCK ANYTHING!!!
What about having a T-shirts that says "No Scams, please!" printed? You can make those at free T-Shirts sites anywhere.
In London, Tube escalator educate is the same as Subway educate in NYC, even though we drive on different sides of the road.
it's true! Very surprising.
My parents gonna be here all of April .. do you have activity ideas videos for non English speaking old people visiting in April lol 😅 I mean Lion King could work because it is more visual but they wouldn’t understand one word of Hamilton
Very beautiful ☺👏
We've a similar issue in Ireland, we have statues of starving and emaciated people from the famine. People take photos with the arm around them smiling etc
most confusing thing with the tipping stuff is who to tip. When we were in the US, ordered take away to our hotel, answered door fully expecting to tip, asked how much (from Australia) and they told me not to worry about it. so confusing.....
I have a problem with this because I'm clumsy, and I walk slow even when I try not to... Especially when I go down the stairs... I'm afraid if I go to NYC, they would push me downstairs or something... Also, I'm definitely going to need Google Maps, but I guess I can just stop somewhere less crowded to check... Also, I wasn't planning on taking a smiley photo at the memorial, but... Can you take some kind of photos there or not at all?
I haven’t lived in NYC for 40 years and these applied even then (except the Metrocard)
U r so funny 🤣🤣🤣
I’m not even from New York and the slow people on the sidewalk drive me nuts when I’m there. We have the same problem in Toronto
Ugh it is so annoying!
Tipping expected but not mandatory
Wrong. Unless the service was horrific you should definitely tip for the reasons Sara gave. If you can afford to eat out, then you can afford to tip!
Didn’t know jacinda ardern does NYC videos!
😂 I've had a few people tell me there's a resemblance!
Entertaining, Amusing and frightening for an aging midwesterner like me. I would have to commit all these tips to memory before I would come as I certainly do not want to p!ss everyone off.
I’m happy that we don’t have the subway problem in Taiwan. New Yorkers should come here and learn how to keep the subway station clean and the order of getting on and getting off the train😅
I have no shame in shoulder checking ppl who are walking too slowly or stop in the middle of the sidewalk. I got places to be and you're in my way. Especially if you're looking right at me and see me coming.
Just a completely bad experience
I LOVE IT WHEN YOU BRING JOHN ON YOUR VIDEOS!! It's because of John's RUclips channel I know you Sarah.
All great tips and what would "seem" like common sense. 👍🏻
Now I'm going to do all these things 😂
You do that and you're gonna get body slammed so you're no longer in the way 🤷🏻♀️
Love your videos but I find it interesting that you say don’t go to chain restaurants but you almost always go to chain coffee! I’ve visited NYC only once but we never went to Starbucks. So many great local coffee shops.
I'm not from NY but go there regularly. My personal mission is to read every single name in the memorial when I'm there. It PISSES ME OFF to see people joking around at the reflecting pools. There has to be some law where we are allowed to punch people who do this.
Put up a sign or stfu. Stop assuming everyone honors death the same as you. 99% of the planet has worse tragedies but don’t demand all visitors to participate in their customs. Jesus the arrogance of “certain” people to just assume the world should have knowledge of your customs is completely absurd.
@@yusefkhan1752 oh, we have a badass here!
Fr, people just stay in midtown when it cost like 150 times more than staying anywhere else, i would suggest the bronx
Your NY accent was heavier in this segment (I liked it)
Should do a video on the amount of homeless and drug addiction that are on the streets I’m just back from New York and was absolutely horrified by what I saw
Go to San Francisco, it's even worse !
people from Boston call this an instructional video LOL

When two of my favorites New Yorkers Collab on a Vid, it's bound to be splendid.... @Sarah Funk & @HeBeBarr
I lived in NYC for 50 years and what annoyed me the most was someone standing on the left side on the subway escalator. Especially during rush hour. I would go up to them and say EXCUSE ME!! They would look at me. I say I need to pass. They move and I have like 15 people following me. Lol
Sarah and Jon made my stay in NYC so smooth back in June 2022. Great content guys, I would say your videos are almost a public service anouncement.
Why you change your channel name?
It's all pretty similar to London.
CROWDS
The last one should apply universal
People look at me weird when I’m just in a tshirt or hoodie, especially on days like today, but hey I just don’t get cold that easily
That's LA stuff they get so sick here easily
I didn't watch this but asking for basic directions should be added to this list lmfao.
Number 1 and 2 - Yep….
I live in Norman, OK and when someone visits and they want to go to Applebee's or Olive Garden it makes me less than happy. Why even go to NY if you're going to eat at a chain restaurant?
Because we don't have them in our countries🤷♀️
