Admittedly I'm not your typical viewer Sarah: a retiree pushing 70 who loves NYC. That said, it's no surprise my viewpoints are the opposite of yours: Madame Tussauds is a collection of mannequins that often are less than lifelike and can be replicated anywhere (nothing to do with NYC). The Summit is a collection of annoying distractions for kids, and the view is treated as an afterthought. Meanwhile the Intrepid, the ESB and the Met showcase iconic touchstones of American history and world culture. Takes all types, right? Still, your opinion is valued by many (including me) and you perform a valuable service. Thanks.

Just visited NYC for the first time a couple weeks ago, I want to thank you for making these videos, they were very helpful for my trip overall. It was a very short visit (2 days only) so I decided to go to only one attraction of each type. I missed going to the Met and I chose going to the MoMA as a museum instead, absolutely loved it and I got to see most of the museum during a shorter period of time as it's smaller than the Met. I'd definitely want to visit the Met if I went back to NY. For observation decks, I visited Summit and the views are worth the ticket price by itself, but honestly as a solo traveler I felt like the attraction especially the "ball room" was a little overwhelming. I was by myself and the place was normally crowded (not too much) but you still felt that you were getting in the way of people's selfies just by walking around... I'd surely recommend Summit as a fun attraction for families, kids or couples but if you just want the nice views or you're travelling by yourself I'd have chosen another observation deck...

Like you, I found Empire State observation deck less than anticipated.
BUT... Absolute AWE of the lobbies, the entrance and basement. The building itself is ART. And if you rush through to get onto the elevators to go to the top, then you miss the best part of Empire State building.

I absolutely loved the Empire State, seeing how they built it, and King Kong was so much fun, I do recommend it. As for the Intrepid, so cool to be inside a submarine, an see the airplanes so up close, puls the space shuttle, personally I found it very interesting. And the MET, no question about it, worth it each and every time you go there, so much history to see and learn from!

If you’ve never been to NYC the Empire State Building is a must. I’ve been to NYC almost 40 times and I’ve been to the 86th floor about 10-12 times. With friends and family. It’s iconic and to say you’ve been to the top of Empire State Building is something. And to say you’ve gone to the bathroom at the top of Empire State Building is awesome. My stepdad is an iron worker and he was amazed by this building. So yeah it’s a must. Sometimes I think it’s better even seeing the building just on the street. Walking by it.

Great video as always Sarah. As someone who's not from New York. The Empire State Building would be the 1st on my list. I know you can't see it but the experience of actually being in and then on top of the Empire state building. I could look back on videos, movies from NYC. See the Empire state building and say. "I was on top of that"

I paid extra to go to the 102nd floor of the ESB. I thought it was worth it because it is an enclosed room (warm), it's smaller and has less people, and the best part there are at least 2 docents in there with you to explain what you are seeing.
I paid for a basic membership to the Met so I could go as many times as I wanted. It's too big to see everything in one or even two days. The membership includes admission to The Met Cloisters which is a must see for the tapestries alone!

I found The Met to be fully worth what I paid for it. I spent hours there and didn't come close to seeing everything.
I'll be trying Summit 1 in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I'll find the same thing there. Glad to hear that they appear to have fixed the issues you were having the last time you were there.
Also trying the Museum of Broadway and the High Line, Chelsea Market, and Little Island for the first time. It's going to be my fourth trip to NYC and there's just so much to do! 🙂

RUclips hosts can be such superior acting snobs. Like her. These kinds of places are often good for handicapped people and senior citizens. They ate less crowded and easy to get around in. Every visitor does not want to go to funky clubs, ethnic eateries, obscure sites, etc. She clearly did not approach this place with an objective mind.

Commenters can be such superior acting snobs. Like you. These kinds of videos are often good for the average tourist visiting New York and people who want to check if it's worth the money. Every RUclips host is not going to think of every situation for every single person, with every condition, every particular case, etc. You clearly did not approach this comment with common sense.

My husband and I went to the Empire State Building and I suppose because I love history, I enjoyed the exhibits they had. I thought it did it justice. I think because it is a venerable building and it's an historic building--unlike some of the others--that doing a more "trendy" immersive sort of thing like Summit, etc would take away from it. What the ESB has done is elegant for the most part--it does it justice and it has interactive parts like you can take a pic with King Kong or the sculptures of the workers so I don't think the ESB needs to change at all. She's fine as she is.
Not everything in NYC has to cater to the young and hip. For us middle aged to older folks--we appreciate the more subdued stuff like the ESB or the MET (Which we didn't get to see--not the main location--we did go to the MET Cloisters though which was awesome to see) and I didn't know about the Intrepid which sounds like one I'd like to see perhaps on a future trip to NYC.
As for as Madame Tussauds--I'd be more than happy to pass that one. It's definitely not something my husband and I would want to be at. We're more of a history/culture sort of folks

As a native NY'er, I thank you for your honest opinion about the ESB. I've never been to the observation deck and have no desire to do so. Also never been to Madame Tussauds but it looks fun, especially the "scary" rooms. Also haven't been to Summit but I'd go, and been to Intrepid once when I was a teenager. The Met is by far the best.

As a tourist I loved the ESB, the lobbies, the exhibits, the observation decks and even the gift shop. There are some cool t-shirts there you can't find anywhere else in NYC. The observation deck balcony with its wired protections could be better and more pleasant if they took the time to do some renovations. But it is an old building so I was expecting that. It didn't detract from the experience. I agree with you that nothing compares to the Met. The aircraft carrier, I couldn't care less. I loathe everything military, including top gun movies new and old.

Madame Tussauds w/o anyone there is okay, local been (1) time & don't suggest it. London & Hollywood is better.
Go to the Met but can a resident bring a visitor for the $1 donation entrance ❓What about the Pass❔
Will do the Ball Room @ the Summit as it looks like a blast. Is the Intrepid better than the Air & Space in Wash D.C., each has many merits ❓Just do the lobby for the Empire State Bldg to see the Art Deco. Or have a snack but you need a reservation for Starbucks.
Reminder: check the free day entrances to Museums / all different.

#1. The Met. I go almost every time I'm in NYC. #2. Summit OV. Better as a group, probably the best observation deck for kids. #3. Empire State Building. Don't do it as your first observation deck. #4. Intrepid. Never been, and I do like planes and military stuff, there always seems to be something more exciting for the time and cost. #5. Madam Tussauds. Tourist Trap, don't pay money to see something not original and in 23 other cities around the world.

I feel like Madame two sides would be more fun to do for New Yorkers, but a waste of time for tourists because tourists are looking to immerse themselves and all that New York City has to offer and Madame two, so it literally has nothing to do with New York. If you’re in New Yorker, and you want to do something different spend some time at Madame Toussel. If you’re in tourist, looking to do things you need to New York, skip it.
