High quality writing and acting. Grandma Hoad is a very impressive and inspiring character, straight out of an epic James Mitchener novel or a John Ford movie, and the actress portraying her did a fantastic job. Somebody should study this episode and write a screenplay with her background story and consider a remake modern Western without Bonanza. A character like that deserves better than a forgotten TV show.
-think it's little bit weird writing; girl got her father killed, but she suddenly just forget it and start's to pose. Reality is not the thing here at all.
When Grammy Hoade showed up with er boys and cracked her whip at the Cartwright's house, I thought guns would be a blazin..... Boy was I wrong. A little talking saved the day and it ended without a single shot fired. Awesome.
@@ziggyschumann5284 No shit, lol, the point is that the characters managed to ultimately resolve the situation without any unnecessary bloodshed. This is what really distinguished shows like Bonanza from most earlier Westerns, the humanity and varying perspectives, it wasn't all just Lone Ranger "All Indians/Outlaws are bad, BANG BANG!" one-note stories.
Such an exhilarating ending. What an episode! What an incredible story! What epic acting especially by grandma HOade I wish I could die just after watching Bonanza so I could die happy without regrets.
This is the episode that changed my mind about Bonanza, at least after Lorne Greene managed to get his character modified into the stately patriarch of Nevada he would be famous for. Namely, in a situation that would have been a easy excuse for wild shootouts in earlier westerns, Ben Cartwright resolves the situation with understanding and empathy while showing tremendous courage to do so.
@@DennisRegling If you're going to stereotype, the stereotypical Republican would rather give the 1% more tax breaks so they can buy another McMansion/yacht while squeezing the vulnerable middle/lower-classes that actually do the work that allow their companies to function even harder.
