This is the first video of Bream I ever saw, and one of the first pieces of music I ever learned. Rest in peace maestro, we will never forget what you did for our instrument.
@@no-rq7fp I was unclear, it was one of the first pieces I learned on classical guitar. I had been playing piano and electric guitar for a few years before I started studying classical guitar.
@@willmartin3067 sorry, I wasn’t clear. The fourth was one of the first classical guitar pieces I learned. I had been playing piano and electric guitar for a few years before I started studying classical guitar. I’m definitely no wunderkind.
it was Bream's Villa-Lobos that made the most impression on me...my father had his recordings and played the guitar too...this Prelude is an echo of my childhood memories of my dad....there is no one to equal Julian Bream.
Can’t believe I just discovered this guy. A true master musician. The control of dynamics he has, it just shows how many thousands of hours this guy practiced.
Yes I agree. I am an Australian who lived in London during the 60s and that was when I first heard Maestro Julian Bream play. I was stunned and ever since then he has been my favorite. He is the best classical guitarist in my books.
Bream is one of the very few people that play the first part of Prelude No. 4 rhythmically and emotionally right. You have to ask yourself: What is the player trying to say with this? - And when Bream plays you can feel what he is trying to express. It is just pure awesomeness to listen to his rich and lovely tone!
After playing guitar for 20 years and listening to so many talented young and established guitarist Bream is still remanes one the biggest inspiration for me.
I remember my dad used to play Julian Bream albums every morning while my family ate breakfast. To this day, when I hear his performances, I can taste the sublime flavor of cheerios. Beautiful music indeed.
For my 14th birthday I was given a Julien Bream album, Segovia and Django Reinhardt. I'm 18 now and I thought I'd actually listen to them... I know it took me 4 years to listen to them. Now here I am kitted out as a hardcore metal head waiting to leave for a Metallica concert in an hour listening to this GENIUS!
É, o cara realmente impressiona. Não preciso nem dizer. Dá pra ver que não é uma música nada fácil e o violonista realmente "entendeu" o que o Villa queria dizer.
grace humphries Julian was my first introduction to the classical guitar! He is responsible for me becoming a guitarist myself and I am in mourning for him... What a marvelous human being...
the beauty of mesuc is interpretation and creative liberty if you have the conviction to not only try but to execute your conviction through your passion. True artistry.
i love the fast movement...it really wakes you up and grad your attention. there are probably other awesome interpretations, but this one is very nice as well.
The Fabio Zanon disc i have is by far the greatest Villa-Lobos interpretations i have ever heard! I hven't heard too many though, but it's better than this one, i just wish i could get my hands on the Mel-Bay video of it!
These Preludes (nº3 and 4) are my favourites. The others are grand too, but I love these ones. Gosto muito destes dois Prelúdios, o 3 e o 4. São meus favoritos.
It has nothing to do with jealousy - that is a silly comment. Constructive criticism is what makes the classical guitar the fantastic instrument it is. Keep posting my friend
@wyles54 Share the same experience, my dad left school after 8th grade but he was intelligent nonetheless and a gifted musician. He practiced classical guitar and played the same material any student would play Tarrega,Granados, VillaLobos, Bach. I sat at his feet attentively listening to this to him play these awesome classics with a sensitivity and nuance that only a professional would possess. Too bad he never took it further.
No doubt, he IS a master at what he's doing. I'm playing prelude 4 right now, but I don't think this music is a contest about who's playing it fastest...I personally prefer putting emotion to this song.
Indeed Villa-Lobos had a record of Bream's first mono survey of the 5 preludes from the 50's. At first he condemned them and then took an about-face stance and adored them and asked for more copies of the lp shipped to him in Brazil to share with his fellow colleagues.
Haha, yes sometimes you have to shock people to get them to realize wth theyre doing... I think Julian Bream defenitevly deserves a top place. He has an unique touche and stuff. I like him. Another intressting player would be Roland Dyens. And ofc Pierri is a favorite, can't decide which one is best atm ;] All of them are so good in their own way, on different pieces. BTW Dan, I like Gino Baby it was a beautiful nick. TY very much! Gonna check mr Gino Auri out now. Take care! Alexander
My three favorite classical players, Segovia - The Godfather, Williams - ariticulate intellectual approach, and Bream - the romantic poet of the classical guitar.
There have been a number of great players this past half century. Two separate Spanish women, separated by two generations, were among the most evocative players of the instrument.

The villa lobos preludes were the first pieces you learnt? That's impressive

Tal vez haya sido el amor a la Guitarra y a la Música más que horas de práctica.....
I actually vote Julian Bream as the best ever interpreter of Villa-Lobos. Anyone else agree?
Yes I agree.
Quite the most beautiful thing - man and guitar in perfect harmony

the sound of the guitar in the prelude 3 is of a celestial beauty this enchanted the audience, the inner timing had moment of impatience, for my tast.
These are surely among the best live performances ever recorded of Villa Lobos. Mesmerising stuff.
Wish we could have heard prelude no. 3 in its entirety... Exceptional none the less
Perfect execution as is common of Julian. Wish this interview would be uploaded completely.
