New subscriber. I agree with everything you’ve said. I love thrifting duvet covers. I’ve also checked out sewing books with patterns from library. It’s a great way to test the fit and if I love it I can always buy it.

Good advice Diane. I volunteer in a thrift store (charity shop). We have loads of patterns for 50 cents each. Many of them have never been cut. I get all the patterns I need to make my grandchildren's clothes. Many of these patterns have multiple sizes in the same pattern. So, like you, I trace what I need rather then cutting it out. That way I can use the same patterns for different children. Thanks - big fan of your channel!
Hi Gayle, that is a really great way to get the patterns for your grandchildren's clothes and how lucky they are to have you! I think it is good to look at ones that have been cut too, as the multi patterns often have different garments in one pack and usually only one item has been cut out. Hi Dianne, I can remember the first video of your I had watched and you stood out from all the other makers because you made it acceptable to all how wanted to sew by teaching more sustainable ways to make garments, in fact you taught me to make bias bindings, I think🤔 I had made it once before while I was at school 50 years or so ago🥴 . I really enjoyed this video - I have sewn on and off for 60 years and used to make a lot of my own clothes but now it's mostly altering or remaking charity shop clothes - I love to find linen and silk to remodel. One of my (other) favourite you tubers is 'Catherine Sews' from Canada. She alters, remakes, adds pockets etc. I agree about the gadgets - very few are actually needed - couldnt live without my unpicker though😉
Hi Shirley, it is good to find a real treasure when you are in the charity shops isn't it. I love it when there is a really unique print on a good quality fabric it is like striking gold. ☺
John Lewis curtain department usually has a box of nice curtain samples which also have the cotton lining which you can take apart to make cushions or a jacket or bags.
Great video Dianne, I use many of the ways you describe not only to save money but for the creative challenge they provide. One of the things I enjoy about sewing is hacking and combining patterns. I have two me made garments ready to remake into something new. I really like your top, how did you add the tie detail at the front? I will have to give a go. Thank you.

Agree with many things you say. The worst thing to do is watch lots of videos with people with hundreds of fabric and still buy more😂 Buy what you need and use it. Patterns are so expensive but you can buy a book with lots of patterns for the same price 🙂

The only reason I have any kind of stash is due to being gifted a very large bundle when someone sadly died (a dressmaker) and also a lot of offcuts from my job and these are frequently half a meter or less. I have some that are a bit bigger but in odd shapes from where they were cut. I try to get creative to use those up. I don't like the constant haul videos where people buy fabric every week with very little sewing. My job is sewing but all the things I make for them are samples so they are sent to the company. ☺
