One thing i've learned, never judge a hornline or drumline on a parade performance because they most likely spent one rehearsal on it. Crown's hornline is still the best to me.
Crown likes to have fun and interact with the crowd during their parade performances. My first year with guardians was led by a crown vet and he had us do the same. March in a block until given the signal to spread out and have fun. Of course we learn the music and want to sound our best, but a few missed notes or not being squeaky clean is nothing to worry about during a parade.
Don't give your energy to the posers...I've been doing marching band, color guard or drum corps since the 70's...LOVE IT ALL (including parades...lol). No comparisons or critiques necessary if you know what you're talking about...For me, it keeps getting more exciting and innovative every year! To the posers I say, LIGHTEN UP, FRANCIS!!! ;)
@euphmmx....the tune they are playing in this video is not part of their show so I'm sure they don't rehearse it often. If they had performed part of their show your face would have been torn off!
@cainanuk If you can't do better, dont talk shit. They're having fun, and I think with all the uptight moments in rehearsal and performances to stress these guys out, it's only fair to let them loosen up.
Marching a parade is about enthusiasm and just playing one tune. It's not like playing a show that you work countless hours on. Crown is a great corps and deserves to just have some fun.
@ppinkbelly That's BS. It shouldn't be an issue. it's music, stay in step and count. Poor performance for a corps of their statue. Can they march in block formation and play?
Dear video taper, On behalf of all the crown fans, please get a better mic, would love to hear this with a good sound. Especially with the kind of sound they produce on the field.
@nstargirl I agree! Haha I don't know about you but after long days of exhausting practice if I were to do something just for fun I wouldn't strive for exact precision because during a non competitive fun performance there is no need for exact precision all you have to do is enjoy yourself, plus they are a drum corps and they practice for hours on end and they are amaZing but of course you have to bitch about this one time the playing quality is a little bit lower than usual though not near as
That's a great credential you got there. but No exceptions to any performances, you can still have fun while having a standard of excellence. like Sir Zuko said, zero fucks given hahahahaha -I scream on the trumpet while taking a shit.
@TheRoZySaYzWaH1 First off... Independence day is a "bs holiday"? Excuse me??!! Secondly, don't eben think about preaching to me sunshine. I marched DCI for 7 seasons. Been there, done that AND got the t-shirt (seven of them actually), and I can tell you, we would NEVER disrespect our corps name or the drum corps activity with a "performance" like this.
Look at my comments on other Crown videos... even videos of thsi same exact hornline. I am in AWE of the talent they have on offer. All I was trying to say is that I felt as though they were letting themselves down by putting on this performance. I still stand by my sentiment that THIS performance sounds like absolute crap. I also still stand by my sentiment that Crown is a great corps, of which I consider myself a fan. I made this comment a YEAR ago. Let it lie.
Nobody cares about parades, it's 100 degrees out you're in uniform and it's freaking hot. You march for an hour playing the same damn thing. Instructors don't care, you're not being judged on music or w/e. And when you get the music it's usually the day before you have to get it memorized on top of having a 12 hour rehearsal. So you guys tell me when there's time to memorize this piece after a 12 hour rehearsal. March a corps to understand what it's like.
I'm old; I mean "family & almost paid-off house" old. Marched corps & now I'm a corp parent. I dont fault Crown for being easy-going in their parade style; find a style & own it, I say. I *do* fault them for not being tight, efficient, & caring about every single note played, no matter if it's 110° in a 100% wool uniform in a "throw-away" parade performance (been there myself). Have fun, but treat EVERY note, EVERY step, like its Finals, all the time, period. THAT is the sign of of a Champion.
Crown is somewhat of the new kid on the block. Certainly some corps still have the military tradition like Cadets, but you just gotta respect the corps decision. I'm used to a go hard parade style, and the corps I'm marching this summer doesn't even wear their uniforms for parades just gym shorts and a polo. Sure it's way different but that's just how they do it you gotta respect that. I think they should wear full unis but they just don't do it so whatever hahah
Hello people?! They're Rachstars-- they do what they want. What better way to make them feel like rockstars then to let them just rock out?! Give them a break, it's only a small towm parade.
Like if watching "Pacific Palisades July 4, 2011 Drum and Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois" (Phantom) and reading the comment about Crown being "asshats" during parades brought you here.
@euphmmx they are just having fun it's not like they are competing or anything it's just an easy song they can jam to...and no high school band coul be an 8th that good just sayin
Go make a corps. March some parades. Then tell me how much you care. midday July, uniforms, hills (if not mountains), no rehearsal time for parade stuff, probably something big that needs to be fixed during rehearsal later that day, had your ass worked to the ground the day before. Should it have been a bit better? Maybe. But please don't give any of that band director "perform," "represent" crap. This ain't band. If anything parades are like an All-Star game. Doesn't matter, just have fun!
I agree with everyone about "It's just a parade and they probably didn't have time to improve it because they're so busy with show stuff," but those trumpets sound like crap.
I can't believe that there are people here defending this performance. I understand it is "just" a parade, but they are still wearing their corps uniform and representing Carolina Crown... Past, present and future. This is a frickin Jim Ott hornline and they sound like absolute shit. There is no excuse for wrong notes and just plain sloppiness. Sorry. I love Crown, but this is just embarrassing!
They pay upwards of 3000$ to be a part of that and enjoy themselves and have the time of their life, let them enjoy themselves. Stop being so superficial. Everybody makes mistakes and everybody likes to have fun. Chill out man
To all who complain: Who are your comments directed to? The members? or the organization? It's funny to see all of you complainers trying to show off and be youtube judges and critique a parade. No one fucking cares what you think. You try waking up at 6 a.m. memorizing a piece on the way to parade and suiting up in full uniform in the middle of a summer day.
I think these comments are too funny. I posted a video of Crown last year pointing out their pitiful rendition of marching/playing and all the haters jumped all over me. I was originally drawn to Drum Corp after going to "just" parades and seeing the military precision and discipline. But all the spectators along this parade route will never get to witness that, because Crown is ABOVE marching in "just a parade". Evidently they don't feel the need to earn the money they are getting paid.
well...if uve marched dci, you would know how much parades suck. Its difficult to learn tunes like that when the focus of your summer is on your corps show.
Oh my! I know parades suck to do, I get that, but you are still performers and at the very least you do so properly for your own pride. This was not good. And as far as comments about nobody gives a **** , why not? That's a pathetic cop-out for being lazy.
The discipline from yesteryear is forever gone. Now marching has turned into dancing. Colorguard "uniforms" have turned into gym attire. The snap turns, straight lines, and actual marching is a thing of the past. Luckily some corps still value that military tradition. I'll agree Crown is amazing on the field, but why not show the parade viewers that same talent? If parades suck, then don't do them. If they pay you perform, then perform. PERIOD
Change is inevitable, and drum corps has changed a lot. This parade wasn't judged, and Crown didn't have long to rehearse for it. And just because it's different from what you did doesn't mean it's complete garbage
One thing i've learned, never judge a hornline or drumline on a parade performance because they most likely spent one rehearsal on it.
Crown's hornline is still the best to me.
Andres Lopez and has now won 5 Jim Otts.
@@dcmmedia99 Make that 7!
i gotta judge the drumline man

That Parade was so fun!
-Jacob Smith, Lead Trumpet
I actually like to see drum corps jam out. It's the few times where we can see the actual person in them instead of a mindless robot.
Hahahahaha the crowd was probably like AHHHH cos they're so loud at the end
@ euphmmx.....have you ever marched anywhere?
The articulation on those short notes is killing them! Intonation too!!
In The Stone is a great tune and they sounded great; makes me remember my college days we played this often.
That high note at the end.... wow. AWESOME!!!
Ich hab so krasse Gänsehaut bekommen als ich das gehört habe! Der Anfang ist so pervers geil
anyone else find that wall cloud in the background really distracting? looks like the cloud that came over my city before a big tornado hit.
@euphmmx exactly we played that same tune in our high school band and won the spirit trophy
Have you ever thought it might be you are not be getting great sound quality through this microphone
1:32 i got confused on wether the drumline was walking forward or backward. Mind f***
Still one of the coolest uni designs
@banddude2009 Actually, the Cavaliers are pretty old school about parades. At least, on the outside looking in.
@cainanuk If you can't do better, dont talk shit. They're having fun, and I think with all the uptight moments in rehearsal and performances to stress these guys out, it's only fair to let them loosen up.
cool drum covers
IN THE STONE BY EARTH WIND AND FIRE!
EWF!!i love it!!
yep My hometown of New Bedford MA Got to hear them play that number a few times that day. The next year is when they won DCI
Yet, keep in mind, they probably didn't have that long to learn it. Give them credit for the effort.
This is the kind of how Drum Corps in the philippines are. They jam to regular popular music.
Marching a parade is about enthusiasm and just playing one tune. It's not like playing a show that you work countless hours on. Crown is a great corps and deserves to just have some fun.
Guys, chill the fuck out, its just a parade, you dont have to be clean to march in a parade.
LUV the uniforms! They must have an enormous cleaning bill. 😊
@ppinkbelly That's BS. It shouldn't be an issue. it's music, stay in step and count. Poor performance for a corps of their statue. Can they march in block formation and play?
Dear video taper,
On behalf of all the crown fans, please get a better mic, would love to hear this with a good sound. Especially with the kind of sound they produce on the field.
Trumpet screamer.... in CROWN!?
Bridgemen did it best! Hands down
I gotta tip my hat to Crown playin' some old school Bridgemen. Certainly dirty as it can get, but I dig none-the-less.
@nstargirl I agree! Haha I don't know about you but after long days of exhausting practice if I were to do something just for fun I wouldn't strive for exact precision because during a non competitive fun performance there is no need for exact precision all you have to do is enjoy yourself, plus they are a drum corps and they practice for hours on end and they are amaZing but of course you have to bitch about this one time the playing quality is a little bit lower than usual though not near as
DamnTho. The uniforms👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
That's a great credential you got there.

-I scream on the trumpet while taking a shit.
i wonder how many people talking crap acutally marched drum corps....just wondering lol

Crown's line is probably the best out there now. Of course anyone would be good under the direction of a Star.
What money they are getting paid?
Jarrod Briley 7500
about 8 grand

@ppinkbelly Crown starts working on parade tunes during winter camps.
What I don't get is how people are surprised by this. Crown IS the bando corps.
@samrshelley yea..bandos with two silver meadals and 3 jim ott awards..really bright...
High B to G to Eb from the mello... I'm so shook
Crown is somewhat of the new kid on the block. Certainly some corps still have the military tradition like Cadets, but you just gotta respect the corps decision. To the people complaining about their hornline.. Who cares? At least they look like they're having a lot of fun!
With the tough schedule drum corps demands, good luck finding time to work on parade music.
Uno Dos 1 2 Tres Cuatro! I'm Game.
@euphmmx...c'mon...spill...if you can be so hypercritical of this performance tell us where you marched!
*Insert narrow-minded 16-year-old-kid-who-has-never-marched-corps-before's here*
@euphmmx
Nice, so like Avon high school, or broken arrow! They are pretty fucking badass, so I totally agree with you!!!!
@euphmmx they are just having fun it's not like they are competing or anything it's just an easy song they can jam to...and no high school band coul be an 8th that good just sayin
@cainanuk so it wasn't just me...
Hack Hack Hack!
y los trombones
?????????????????????
for once it wasn't BD with the screaming trumpet hanging over
carolina crown being a cool drum and bu...... band
Looked like a 4th place performance to me...
Ha ha ha! Mocking Spanish counting!
mello FAIL 2:45
Go make a corps.
March some parades.
Then tell me how much you care.

Honestly, they should be ashamed of themselves. That's a disgrace. Stop acting like the Cavaliers, you guys aren't supposed to be asshats.
Obviously other corps can.
Prepare to be infuriated, man.
/watch?v=5HQKUELKYeo
I'm pretty sure the best brassline in drum corps can take it easy once in a while.
Well. At least the drumline is clean. Lol
Bad as you described it though...and no high school band could ever be as good as crown in that video
They pay upwards of 3000$ to be a part of that and enjoy themselves and have the time of their life, let them enjoy themselves. Stop being so superficial. Everybody makes mistakes and everybody likes to have fun. Chill out man
