      Actually, I think Patrick played a few notes on this track. In retrospection, I don't think he was the right man for the job, Yes keyboardist (judging from his live performances), but he did bring some fresh ideas and direction to the band. C'mon, lets give the man his due. For without him there would NEVER be a Sound Chaser!

    I, too, prefer the original, but like and respect this version. The great thing about multiple versions is that sometimes one suits your mood better. Hopefully people whose only exposure to Prog is Prog Metal will hear this and listen to Yes. For me, saying "Prog Metal" is almost an oxymoron in that prog was anything and everything. I heard a documentary about Yes where someone said something like "if Yes even were a rock band."
    AFAIK, most PM bands don't do songs like "Starship Trooper," "Wondrous Stories," "Mood for a Day", and, and, and...
    It's nice to see that Yes is still being acknowledged as the pioneers they were. Especially by Dream Theater who wanted to be a combination of Yes and Metallica. Unfortunately Steve Howe doesn't get much attention these days, despite the fact that he was banned from winning Guitar
    Player Magazine's Best Overall Guitarist after winning FIVE years in a row. They created the Hall of Greats for him to give other players a chance.
    There will only ever be one Yes. Transcendent.
    To be continued...

    Jordan made this song his. My opinion is that this is a very good version of Yes "Sound Chaser" Todays teens, young adults have very very few bands like when most of us were growing up (Yes, Pink FLoyd, Rush, Gentle Giant, ELP, Genesis w/Peter Gabriel, etc) even though this is 12 years old Jordan does a fantastic job!!! I miss the original Yes oh so very much. I'm so glad I got to see them when I was a teen. Todays kids I feel sorry for you. YES ROCKS!!!!

      To Thomas Foremen: Good comment: Well done. Today's youth are trying to duplicate formulas for social media or chart-topping success.
      The music's economic path seems to suit them more so than dabbling with the overly intricate.
      A young musician's aim is to blend the balance of today's shade and sound into a finished financial project.

    • @paulgrace3439
      @paulgrace3439 2 года назад

      The youth of today have all the classics to choose from along with a lot of new Prog especially from the mid 90’s onwards. There’s also whole new genres in progressive music such as progressive metal, experimental post metal, extreme tech metal, Neo prog and the classics such as Eclectic, Symphonic, Heavy, RPI, Canterbury and Zheul that are alive and well. Granted the original progressive rock greats will always be revered and copied to some extent. They also will never be topped. Still there’s a plethora of new bands expanding on the classic sound and even progressing creating original new music. I’d go as far to say bands such as Dream Theater, Haken, Anekdoten, Steven Wilson, porcupine Tree, Tool, Anglagard, Riverside and even Radiohead have created new masterpieces. The youth actually has the best of both worlds with a lot more to choose from if they are blessed with true artistic genes. I’ve watched “School of Rock” and other videos of the youth of today reinterpreting classic Prog and newer Prog most excellently. Their taste for classic Prog is excellent. They must have good teachers and parents to show them such good music. The internet opens up all of the classics snd new Prog bands as well. The youth of today are actually quite lucky to have literally 1000’s of Prog bands to chose from the last 55 years.

      @@eddyvideostarnot entirely true as a whole but a lot for the commercial pop industry and even rock nowadays. You won’t get prog like this or YES era anymore to that extent.

    • @AtomizedSound
      @AtomizedSound 8 месяцев назад

      @@paulgrace3439but it’s not the popular aspect of the music industry and the niche is low. Prog encompasses a lot in genre of music wise but nothing is made like Rush or YES today. The bands you mentioned expand upon it slightly while doing their own thing but obviously not the same. Music does evolve but the times or songwriting of the yesterday’s prog isn’t exactly the same anymore to what I’ve seen and heard. There’s good prog out there but it’s a shame there isn’t any Rush, YES, early Genesis type bands out there in the vein of songwriting and musicianship skills up and coming. Hopefully it’ll come back around but it may not and what we have of the past to listen to is just that.

    Interesting ! in the original its the Steve Howe electric flamenco wild guitar solo somewhere in the middle that takes the original to an as yet unsurpassed level. I like this but, just how do you top that ? answer is. - No one can - nor ever will. Here the solo is substituted by a technically gifted but pretty non descript guitar effort that detracts somewhat from the overall attempt. This just proves to me that whilst pretty good, technically brilliant even, It is simply impossible to improve on perfection.

    Interesting variation, but that bass is painful! I once jammed with a guy here in Houston back in the late 70s that did a far better job of covering the memorable parts of Moraz's solos, and then further expanded on them than Rudess does here (too much pitch wheel wiggling and not enough meat and potatoes from Moraz's exciting performance and style, IMO). The "cha-cha-chas" are missing the back-beat "homes". The hi-hat doesn't even come close to fitting into the mix (chop some of the bottom off) and needs a good dose of "humanizing". An interesting and impressive attempt, but missing much of the heart of the 45+yo old analog prog rock classic. Science can make it louder, and clearer, and more mechanically defined, but they still can't find a way to bring the same soul of the ancient masters. But, there's still room for fun!

  • @neilparnell5712

    Nothing but a load of aimless noodling and wankery whereas the original was a real exploratory trip into the unknown. It loses all the menace, foreboding and venom along with the superlative percussive timing and funky groove of the original. Criminal not to have a real bass guitar and doubly so to skip Steve Howes crunchy flamenco tinged solo. Mr. Moraz and co really nailed the extreme composition, about the only area this scores is the modern production which Yes would have killed for but progress in recording tech is no substitute for progressive composition.

    There are sections of this cover that are equisite, and complimentary to the original in a creatively unique way. I was really rnjoying it all the way up to that boring rendition of fast scales and cliched blues-like riffs one would call a "guitar solo". Absolutely horrendous. Steve Howe did a masterfully creative interpretation of flamenco guitar with a truly bizarre twist, along with some dramatic symphonic flourishes. The guy on this cover squeezes all the dynamics out of that section, and substitutes boring 32nd note scale runs that have no melodic purpose, seem to appear and disappear at random like intestinal gas after a spicy meal, and are tacky as hell. I'll be happy if I never hear him play anything again.
