I saw this guy with his DT bandmates when they came down to Sydney, Australia, to play at Luna Park. I easily remember when Jordan Rudess looked up in the camera smiling while doing his solo during "Overture 1928". That's one of the best aspects about Rudess, he never takes himself too seriously.
'So in our world, there's been a lot of hunger and pain and failing diplomacy, and the challenge was to fix world poverty and end all the wars. So what I did was I split the keyboard...'
Don't think of him as an alien. This level of skill is very much attainable, as you probably know. I understand the satire in your comment, but just know that you are also human and can achieve these things as well. Though it might be more difficult because he actually has what is known as perfect pitch.

Peter P Hey thanks man I'm gonna check this out, I'm a big fan of the Ipad for carrying VSi's around.. You should check out the M3000 Mellotron and Neo Soul Keys for a Rhodes sound if you haven't already.
Great express comunication, he talks about the important things in the most simple way, he's one of the best talent artist that you can find as a teacher. Congrat. and thanks so much for posting.
This guy has to be one of the most amazing keyboardists today and I am so glad he also loves Prog music. So many sounds, textures, effects and depth that can be achieved. Jordan is truly a maestro of the XXIst Century, Keith Emerson has a heir to the Prog Keys God and this tutorial is just a small sample. Saw Jordan play all Tarkus at the Emerson tribute last year in L.A. El Rey - totally awesome and about seven times with Dream Theater.
holy crap the master advanced class actually starts at 26:00 I thought the first half was hard enough to follow. He has his shit completely sorted, a true professional.
Oh my god... It's even more crazy to hear him play this solo. He's like a one-man-orchestra. But I did realize one new thing today; not all wizards wear cloaks.
Brilliant stuff and a masterclass in the value of time spent learning your kit and the possibilities of blending traditional wind or acoustic instruments and orchestral sounds with rock/synth sources...amazing and inspirational.
I want to see what he could do with a fully programmable FM chip, like a YM2612 in the Genesis. The big fault for that chip was that the default patches in the devkit sucked, and very few musicians experimented with making their own sounds. The few that did, made the best sounding stuff on the console.

All these great splits wouldn't be possible if you cannot exercise the 2-hand independence. The left hand would be playing a totally different from the right. What I'm saying is, even if anyone can program the splits to any sound they like, not everyone would be able to play as effectively as Jordan can. On that note, those are some amazing sound programming/assignments Jordan!
Yeah, not only Jordan is badass in 2-hand independence, even Jordan's right hand is able to do an "Independence". Watch at the pull me under explanation
I consider Mr. Rudess as a keyboard icon that perhaps I can come close to......If I can practice a couple hours a day.....It doesn't matter if I ever achieve the goal..... it's the the journey that's fun. I cheat.....I dont often split the keyboard: I've messed up too many favorite patches.....and in todays world of synths that have so many parameters, it's not that easy to just "go back to what I had". I come from the old Wakeman and Emerson era when they had many keyboards on stage....I still like that esthetic. I bring quite a few keyboards out when I play. ( If I study what Jordan is doing I could save a lot torture lugging these heavy instruments)....
This guy is sick. It's so good that he doesn't live around me. I would constantly be over his studio begging to hear him play. I can't even imagine having access to sounds like this. I would never sleep. Thanks for sharing this video, Pedro. Awesome, for sure!
I wish after demonstrating that sort of sitar sound in Solitary Shell he would’ve also talked about that square wave patch that you hear in the intro, I love love love that

Just keep practicing and you will overtake Rudess one day. Don't forget to play with a metronome every now and then to make sure you have perfect timing too :)
DavidSarge Hey man thanks for the hints. I already have a midi controller keyboard, it's not the best of the market but it's Ok. You know, I used to practice more, but I don't have much time lately. I just play for fun nowadays! See you!
Jordan has innovated the way which keyboardists use a keyboard. Im my vision, he was the only guy which have worked so hard in this technique: key segmentation. Althought is very cool and usefull, it gives anew introdution in the keyboard world

Jordan has done so many great tutorials , he is very generous with his talents and skills. Very inspiring.
he has mini brains in his fingers that works independently and in tandem
ohh yeahhh dude!!!

It's the other way around, they are in their own world and we are living in it.
