I actually enjoy these clinic videos more than concerts. You can see and hear everything and you actually get something useful out of it.

Ann 1999, the second-to-last year Jordan had a good head of hair. I don't own a keyboard but I've been playing piano since I was 7, and I did find many of his tips helpful. I personally think Jordan Rudess is the greatest keyboardist in the world. The man plays that D blues scale LIKE A BOSS....................despite his recent hair loss.........

the exercises of 50:00 on diminished chord are famous also in a italian method named "Mozzati" in which we start from the whole tone position instead (ex...E F# G# A# C) which is derived from chopin....and there are 4 phases....counting on 1-2-3-4, 1st phase finger down.....2nd keep down.....3rd finger up (others down...that's the tricky) .....4th finger down but doesnt play only scratch the key surface.
nice method, in this book it's possibile to see many principles quite similar to those in this video, for ex there are not long exercises wrote down but there are small chapters which give you some principles and ideas and then the student has to develop his own, in this way you have some advantages....first to have a relative small book which contains essentially all mechanical problems the studend has to resolve to get a complete control of the keyboard.....and second the student has to be active and always keep mind on what to do, some older italian methods instead were longer even 10/12 books and with every exercise written down from start to end which could lead the student to do things without thinkig of what he is doing but only reading like a machine.
I prefer the approach of rudess....some guide strategies and then you have to construct your own exercises to develop your skills.

For those wondering how to count the rhythm he played at 20:33, it is a 16th note rhythm with the following hitpoints
    1 & (2) & (3) &a4e&
Bracket implies that we don't play the beat

Is it me or is Jordan Rudess's wrist way too low for a lot of this tutorial, I mean, perhaps that is his style but for especialy weighted keyboard action, like pianos, that can be a major technical flaw in executing really relaxed playing and cause cramp, might be alright for harpsichord, organ and other keyboards but not piano in my experience and could cause a lot of problems in prolonged and ergonomic practice.

      People who despise 240p.
Don't get me wrong, the techniques and exercises presented are FANTASTIC, and I'd expect no less from a wizard like him.
But maybe it would be nice to have an updated version that wasn't filmed and edited with a potato and without all the cheesy editing and sound effects? That also showcases some of his newer techniques that he's surely come up with after 2 decades of maturing musically? (This video must at least be 2 decades old, as he never mentioned DT as an act he played with, even though that's what he is now most well known for.)
