yes! i've been journaling for almost all my life (from age 5, dictating my diary to my mum, to now age 27 in volume 131) and so many of my journals nowadays are handmade out of recycled materials. i learned a basic coptic stitch binding from a youtube channel called sealemon, and now can easily make a book out of random cardboard and paper in an afternoon, so my current journal has cheap squared paper (from a uk equivalent to the dollar store that doesn't exist anymore) and painted over scrap paper (uni work misprints). they fill up quickly because i collage etc a lot, and i do buy new notebooks when i really want to, but the diy ones have saved me a lot of money over time i think. anyway, i love the annotation idea - it would help a lot with the pressure to come up with something to write, because there's already text and all you need is to write down your thoughts on the existing text. i love this journal idea!
I employ a lot of these same techniques, repurposing books, painting/taping/gluing in other imagery or text and I LOVE it! Imperfect perfection, " ordered" chaos its my favorite way to work! Thanks for the inspiration!
As a fellow person who has tried to journal many times and never stuck with it, I absolutely love this idea! Will definitely have to give it a try. I'm glad that RUclips decided to recommend me your channel!
I love this idea to get around perfectionism! I've had a similar struggle with trying not to buy junk but also not being harsh when i need something or just want it really badly. Thank you for sharing 💜
Great idea! There's a wonderful book called "A Religion of Ones Own" where the author talks about 1. Learning about different spiritual practices and 2. Taking what you want and leaving the rest. You're doing that with this book - taking what you like, removing what's not for you, and reinventing. The world needs more of this - permission to explore, edit, and create 🙌 Something I've done in the past is taking a new journal and first going through the pages and adding random quotes, glueing in pictures, and even using acrylic and watercolor to paint quick swatches. That way, by the time I go to journal in it, it's already pretty broken in and ready for my imperfections 😂 There's a journaling RUclips channel that inspired me: Overall Adventures A couple years ago I switched to the kindle scribe and I'm still finding my groove with it. On the plus side - I never buy journaling stuff anymore. I also kinda like that I can journal a lot and delete it (letting go is part of my practice, but I get that it's not for everyone) On the other hand, a digital journal just really isn't quite as fun to flip through as a physical journal, if I'm being honest. I'm not sure if it's "for me" but I'm gonna stick with it for 2025. Happy New Year and best wishes Sedna! Oh, p.s. - my book club is reading The Comfort of Crows this year, and that book challenged us to notice our first bird of the year, then google the symbolism of that bird. Well of course, my first bird was a grackle- our most common trash bird in my area (affectionately). But grackles have lots of great symbolism! They are resillient and social and clever - just what I need to be in 2025. A group of them is called an "annoyance" which is great - reminding me to not shrink but rather take up space in the world. Anyway, I loved this new technique for journal inspiration and a bit of divination. I'm going to be looking to the birds for more guidance this year.
Sometimes the expectation of specialness becomes the barrier. In journaling, the specialness is in the process, not the result. It sounds like you’ve found a way to be playful with your journaling that is fun. That’s where I find the specialness.
Perfect can definitely be the enemy of actual, it's good to have perfect aesthetic wonderful blank journal AND a cheap (but not garbage, just affordable and cheap) journal that you actually write in when that becomes too much, which seems silly but it's even sillier sometimes to have this PERFECT journal that you never touch because you can't Achieve Perfection AND not having a journal of any kind at the same time, so sometimes you just have to make a sacrifice and get a cheapo journal to actually be messy in on purpose lol
I believe in energy. I know it exists and I know that everything has some in varying degrees. As for worshiping deity, or casting spells and such that's not quite my thing. I just try to exist as a part of nature.💜
haha, I feel similar about wanting to journal and being very bad at it. It always feels like a bit of a chore, even when I am into it. I'm trying a scrying challenge for the year: for EVERY day (lol, we'll see how long that lasts) I will scry and along with quick notes, I will draw some sort of representation of my vision, no matter how bad I think it is, A good drawing isn't the point, the act of making SOME reference to the vision is...I'd be lying if I said I didn't buy a new notebook for it though lol. May the coming year bring consistent data gathering!
I practice atheistic paganism atheistic witchcraft and I also don't believe in the supernatural. How do you explain a person who does curses from a atheist perspective? How would you explain the workings on a scientific level?

Thanks for reminding me that I do have an empty journal waiting for me 😊

this sounds like a new way to journal 😮
I absolutely hear you on the inconsistent journaling. This whole thing was so entertaining and relatable. Great idea for reuse!
Wonderful to see you again! This video is the best part of my New Year! Happy New Year!

I’m doing something similar this year! Good luck with the no/low buy. Would love to hear an update in a few months.

I recommend Silvia Federici's books to all my fellow atheist witches out there
