I used a sat nav on my driving test, the examiner knew it was miss leading so he helped me out, i did no mock tests lol, but i passed first time only 3 minors
I failed my driving test last week due to the Satnav's voice and volume confusing me. I just kept getting confused with the screen and then made a mistake. Even the examiner said what a shame. You're a good driver. Now the hunt for a date....
you can actually do the same thing on google map to plan a route away and back to the same starting point. There is limitation though with using google map. Google map limits the number of mid-way stops you are allowed to specify in your route.
Fab video, even after years of driving, using google maps can be a bit of a hassle. The key is look at the screen when safe of course and not go on the audio instructions always.
I appreciate your love of google maps, but 'free' is a tricky way to describe google maps and waze. I'm considering getting a sat nav because I dont want my phone's data to be constantly wiped, and seeing as i'll want to go on long 3hr journeys, it's likely that i'd have to up my phone contract data usage just to support google maps, so the cost is in your phone contract needed to support google maps no? Could you use google maps on a £30p/m contract? Also, size wise, a sat nav's screen can be far bigger than my phone, i'd love an updated sat nav vs google maps video from yourself on this!
What's the best practice when using a satnav so that you don't get drawn into looking at it too much. Would it be to just follow the voice commands, give a glance and then once that instruction is done, just keep going until you hear the next command?
@@gavp1336 I would suggest glancing at it regularly like you would recheck your mirrors. Especially if you’re coming to a junction, bend in the road or it’s been a while. It’s useful to know what’s coming up next. Even if it’s not a turn you’ll be updated with the shape of the road and other roads around you

I'd be interested in learning more about the satnav, i've failed my driving test twice because of them and passed on the 3rd without. I'd need to learn using them (google maps or waze) if i'd need to travel for work alot more.
@@anna.4970 Ah I didn’t know that was a thing- Usually they’d say ‘at the roundabout take the 3rd exit’ n you’d have to use lane markings and signs to figure the rest
Personally I prefer Google maps. I like the interface more. But if you have an Apple Watch the Apple Maps directions on your wrist is really cool. Laura prefers Apple Maps too
I use Waze :) it relies on other users and will point out hazards, police vans etc- I find it so much easier & quicker than my satnav and you can select different routes Only downside to using apps is your battery dies and your phone gets really hot (especially if you want the fans on)
Actually not true for google maps, you can set multiple locations to stop at until your reach your final destination and it will form a route with that instead of going for the fastest possible route.
Yeah that’s waypoints though not a specific set route. You’d need to set a waypoint for each road and that would take ages! And when you reach a waypoint you have to interact with the phone and press continue. It’s an awful satnav but it’s definitely the best solution to this lol
Yesss! Finally the Satnav video!! I love how you guys make the videos we ask for ❤
Of course!! We got you 😉 anything else you need let us know!!

Just wanted to show some love Francis, really helpful videos across the channel. Thank you for this!
@@Jasz_ appreciate you!
Thank you! I cant confidently use one eother, I think some instructors underestimate how much practise might be needed with one.
How many yards before I will signal left or right indicating

Please could explain to me what mean Bay right .thanks
Helpful as always
Glad to help Alice!
Are you allowed to quickly look at a satnav whilst on test?
I didn't use satnav in my lessons. Luckily it didn't come up in the test. Passed.
Lucky! Congraaaats!!!
@Thawne 20% of candidates get to follow traffic signs instead of satnav.
Hey Francis next video can you please make inside the car how to use it the buttons and what they do like wipers ac and the hearer headlights

I've got a test tomorrow and Sat Nav is my weakness
But if the examiner provides the probably DVLA Tom -Tom´s is in it have a network on?
They’re just standard tom tom 52s. Most instructors have one for you to practice on. They load on the ‘secret’ routes like we do too

How did the satnav make you fail? All you have to do is listen to them & quickly glance at the map. And it’s not a fault to go the wrong way..?
@@trinityg8511 very misleading when it comes to roundabouts

I want to see a video on how to follow a sat nav without voice commands (so following it by just looking at it).
Thank you
great vedeo
Francis: Apple Maps or Google Maps for navigation?

This is true and it drains your battery fast. If you have a car charger it’s not soo bad! I feel like people only use waze to avoid the police lol
