  • On April 10, 2012, United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills of the 82nd Airborne was critically injured on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan by an IED while on patrol, losing portions of both legs and both arms.
He is one of only five quadruple amputees from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive his injuries.
With incredible personal perseverance, the unwavering support of his family, and an incomparable sense of humor, Travis has forged his path to recovery and now works tirelessly as a motivational speaker, actor, author and an advocate for veterans and amputees.
In September 2013, Travis and his wife Kelsey founded the Travis Mills Foundation, a nonprofit organization, formed to benefit and assist post 9/11 veterans who have been injured in active duty or as a result of their service to our nation.
Travis lives by his motto: “Never give up. Never quit.”

I had the honor of meeting Travis last year.
A story he didn’t say in this interview, really moved me. He said he worried what his daughter would think of him, lying in a hospital bed, all bandaged up and tubes running out of him. He described himself as being a monster in his daughter’s eyes. His wife placed his tiny baby girl on his chest and she smiled at him. He wasn’t a monster, he was dad. What a beautiful story of unconditional love.

They all go through that, even a double amputee. It's a shame that they all are not getting the mental reinforcement that it's going to take to get past disfigurement. I had to remind my buddy that he was a Racecar Driver by throwing him in the passenger side of my sleeper hot rod and gave him the ride of his life. I had a 1970 350 engine built for drag racing that was just a little out of specs and put it in my farm truck. I've done over 330 miles an hour in that pickup truck. I think I only did about 240 mph with him and within a week of getting out of the hospital I had him winning first place in Corpus Christi

Last time I checked the only people who actually kept us safe was the world war vets, because they were fighting Nazis. While veterans today go around murdering innocent people and spent 20 years in a country AND DID NOTHING OF IMPORTANCE. Except take down Osama, and that didn't even do anything of importance.
Because they sure as hell aren't stopping terrorist attacks from happening! The only reason they arent more prevelant is because of the precautions America took after 9/11. The veterans today do nothing to keep us safe.

      4) Any “14-30 year old boys “ getting shot might have done something mildly inappropriate to deserve it

I need to point something out here. He told his story... and the parts of it that we would may have thought were the worst which was losing arms, legs, telling his wife he didn't want to be her burden... were NOT the part which made him tear up. The part which got to him when telling his story was missing the brotherhood he had when he served. Damn, what a hero and inspiration. Seriously.

Wow…. Just watched this. I’m 51 and from Leeds, England.
I can’t even begin to imagine the level of bravery you have shown going to defend the vulnerable. But that’s nothing compared to the courage you’ve shown to carry on with such positivity. The love you show for your daughter and wife is heartwarming. I’d like to thank you for your inspiration and bringing home what been a real hero looks like. A shining example to all! ❤

This man came and spoke to my school, at the time I was in a wheelchair/using a walker after having a multiple orthopedic problems in both of my legs resulting in a few surgeries. I spent weeks in bed and months learning how to walk multiple times. By God’s grace and my personal will I was able to walk again normally…until now where I was in a car wreck which resulted in a badly shattered femur three years ago and I just now had another surgery and I’m having tons of issue and pain. But I have my leg. It’s there. And I WILL walk normally again. This guy was one of two vets and the only young guy from the afghan/Iraq war to visit my school but he had such an impact on me. I still won’t forget that strength he showed to adapt and overcome his disabilities. Thank God for this beautifully brave soul, this is what a real man looks like, he helped show me how to be strong. I’m tearing up writing this now while listening to his story again. God Bless this Man and all veterans, we’re blessed to have them still with us here stateside. I wish the very best for Travis, it’s not easy being able to be so brave and cheerful in the face of pain and the knowledge and long road is ahead where you’ll never be 100% again…..with other’s love and a shoulder to lean on when a brother needs it we shall adapt, overcome, and persevere. I can’t see it again and enough how much of an impact this man had on me, Travis definitely helped me dig deep to find the strength I needed to keep going forward in my own life. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
