Dream Theater introduced me to prog in 2000. Went to my uncle's house on Christmas and the Scenes from a Memory DVD was playing. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it was everything I'd ever wanted from music. "A change of seasons" is most likely their best song.
I have a feeling you want to do more from this band. I'll let others come up with suggestions, but I think it would be good to start out with their early albums "Awake" or "Images and words" as most of the songs from these are awesome.
Kinda surprised you hadn’t experienced these guys before, considering your apparent taste in music. :) This song is a great introduction to the band, but really only displays maybe 20-25% of what these guys can do. It’s like a Ferrari cruising in moderate traffic on a freeway. A thing of beauty, but nowhere near what the beast is capable of. Hard to say where to go from here though if you’re looking for more. It really depends on what experience you’re looking for. Their catalog has pretty much anything you can want. Want heavy riffage thrash inspired metal? They got that. Want progressive technical masterpieces? They got that. Simpler, introspective and deeply personal storytelling? Sure thing. Epic productions that take you on an almost symphonic journey? Yeah, they got that too.
All so true. In order of what you mentioned: ‘The Dark Eternal Night,’ ‘Beyond this Life,’ ‘Space-Dye Vest,’ ‘Octavarium.’ And that’s just my list. Multiple songs could fill each of these categories.
Great great band with great songs. Isn't it time for another Ayreon song. See the channel of Arjen Anthony Lucassen ( he is Ayreon). They did a live concert called Ayreon Universe.
A couple other heavy hitters from this era are ‘The Mirror’ and ‘Lie.’ I wonder if you’d be able to handle something a bit more recent and...frantic. ‘Panic Attack’ is one of my favorites. If you’re familiar with a panic attack, you’ll find that the song’s lyrics and musical structure describe them perfectly.
Pull Me Under cant go wrong to introduce someone to DT :) If you want heavier stuff, The Glass Prison is a good choice. If softer, then I'd recommend Octavarium. For both, A Change of Seasons. Or for some instrumental craziness, Instrumedley :) Seriously... DT has a very large and diverse catalogue

Good song. Far from their best and one of their more simple ones. Mike Portnoy, John Myung and John Petrucci the original founders. Mike Portnoy is on drums with John Petrucci on guitar who is an even better guitar player than Portnoy is a drummer. Portnoy left the band a few years back now and was replaced by an even better drummer but less talented songwriter and I feel the new drummer's style is less engaging than Portnoys. Do some of their live stuff. There is plenty of it and see how amazing they truly are. Songs by DT? They have been out since 1988. there are way too many to choose from. LOL. But my God, please stay away from the Astonishing cd. Basically, it's their MR. Roboto. LOL.

I played this song all the time when it first came out.
Great song by them. I've always liked this one. 🤘
RIP Andre Matos a true musical genius 💔
Dream Theater\ Count of Tuscany awesome song that will take you on a journey!
Must check out Death or Glory live from the Book Of Souls tour!!!!
UP THE IRONS!
The Glass Prison next. This was a pretty tame song by their standards. Most likely why it's their most popular
Classic DT. Great song. A few songs to listen: "A Nightmare to Remember", "The Glass Prison", "Another Day" and "Mirror". Cheers!

This is an older song. They have a different drummer now Mike Mangini. He is great as well. They are great live.
