My mom taught me a hack for the tomato paste. Spray a ice tray and divide the paste and freeze. After it's frozen put in a freezer bag and whenever you need a tablespoon just grab one out of the bag 😊

If you don’t want to wash an ice cube tray, just spoon it all into a ziploc sandwich bag. Then lay it flat and use you finger to make little separations of the paste. Freeze it flat like that. It’s super easy to take out one chunk at a time.

This is a great collection of meal ideas. I like when you do the ingredient specific collections because that's how my brain works for meal planning. I don't eat beef, but I think I could adapt most of these to be tasty with brown lentils or ground turkey.

Stroganoff cheat code! My mother in law would keep a bag in her freezer... everytime she made a roast or steaks etc... if there was one or 2 slices of beef left she would dice it up and add it to the bag... then when it was "enough" you had a "free" meal...

Mindy try this if you have not before: brown onions, mushrooms and your ground beef or chicken. Take a tin of cream of chicken or mushroom soup and let simmer a while. Must not be to dry or runny. When thick enough switch off plate. Take a muffin tin spray with non stick spray. Take same amount of bread as your muffin tin. Cut of very thinly the crusts. Take a roller and just roll over the bread to thin it out. Place in your muffin tin. Bake for about 10 minutes or just a little hard to form a cup. Fill with some off the filling . Add a bit of shredded cheese bake till cheese melted. And enjoy. My daughter loves it with ground beer/chicken minced or strips. ❤ from South africa

I love picadillo , paired up amazing with homemade tortillas de harina and à side of refried beans ... ohh heavenly. Btw : you don't have to put cumin , bouillon, or the garlic. I don't and mine turns out super yummy , although I do add few Springs of cilantro.

Do you think canned pasta sauce would work as a substitute for the other tomato products in these recipes. I’ve got a couple dozen cans I need to use up and I think they’d work instead of the diced tomatoes or paste.🍅

Yes, but you may need to reduce other liquids in the recipe.

Hi Mindy, have you tried the knorr brand bouillon? Maybe it's not as healthy as better than bullion but i like the flavor much more

My girls love hamburger helper. I don't even bother trying to make it from scratch. Sometimes I doctor it up, but not always. It was on sale for $1.49 a box at Safeway the other day, so I grabbed a few.

    • @SeeMindyMom
      @SeeMindyMom  Месяц назад

That's a good price for it these day. I still use the box mixes sometimes, too. I usually add fresh or canned veggies and extra dairy.

With regard to ground beef, Kroger puts their 80% lean on sale every three or four weeks for $2.97 a pound (in a 3 pound chub, so $8.91). We usually get about 12 pounds at a time.

lol! I think the word “literally” is used way too liberally these days. I think some people don’t realize what it means. 😂

Anyone have a good substitute for the canned tomatoes? Family severely dislikes stewed/cooked tomatoes.

I have found that while blocks and sliced cheeses don't freeze well, shredded cheese freezes just fine.

Yes, I agree. I wonder if that's because it has anti-caking powder in it that might help it with the freeze/thaw process.

Preshredded cheese doesn’t do well but if you shred it yourself then freeze it does freeze better

Now that my family has gotten smaller I find it cheaper sometimes to buy something like hamburger helper depending on what I have in the house for the rest of the meal.

Adding beans, more veggies, cheese, even wheat germ you can really stretch hamburger, ground chicken , turkey, pork .

Where do you get that chili garlic sauce? I have several recipes that call for it. I used to be able to buy that specific brand but now I can’t find any brand of it anywhere! I’ve tried to make my own version but it’s just not the same.
