Thanks for posting this! I have this on my table for my first solo runthrough right now, and it was great seeing some idea of the kind of moves the different sides might do.
Hi Miguel, Thanks for video-- lots of questions as I am just learning this game. At 5:26 you place a German control counter on Baranovichi when you move the German unit to Minsk. Do you capture spaces just by moving through? I thought the space became captured during the attrition phase of the turn. My main question is on how to capture enemy spaces. Don't you have to surround a space and deny it from supply? Very confusing part of the rules
+tom clark Hello! Look at section 3: Space control; so when a unit enter a space change the control of it, BUT also in the Attrition phase, the control of OOS spaces can change. Hope that is more clear now! : )
Happy to see this video, and glad people still play this game BUT you have a MAJOR ERROR! this impacts the whole concept of your opening.., You must place the stand fast markers first! It is NOT a little thing. The attack on the SW front is a mistake. You will almost definitely take a step loss and simply placing a stand fast marker prevents your opponent from moving it. 1Vp might not seem important but it can be VERY important in this game. Yes, it is a valid idea to sacrifice the VP and move the mech front anyway but in fact, it is a large price to pay.
Thanks for watching the video and post comments! Yes, I forgot to put SF markers before (as I said in the video with my poor English), but I'm explaining the opening strategy, not the rules, that the reason I made that mistake. Regarding attacking Lwow: of course, you can choose to not attack the mech, but that mech unit at full strength in the winter is a great pain for the germans and sure worth a VP; and not only for winter, with 4 movement points and the possibility to combine two space attacks is a real threat for the long spearhead the germans must do on the following turns. Of course, but there is also another opening without attacking Lwow (instead activating Yassi to unstack the reduced german army).
Miguel Angel yes, I understand it was just for teaching, but the reason it is so important is if you decide to attack the SW front, you can use the sf marker somewhere else. I would contend that if the soviet player gives the VP by retreating the SW under stand fast market he is almost guaranteeing the Germans the ability to play TK card at total war.
@@ALimbOfGreatTree No, I still put the SF on Lwow because there is a high chance of not causing a retreat, so the best outcome for germans is mech reduced but not retreated. In that case, it is harder for the Allied player to give up a VP.
Hello Dave, thanks for watching the video. I can move the soviet front to Baranovich, but that will be a waste of a move marker because he will still be OOS, so will be eliminated at end of turn.
Sorry, another mistake. Why use Zhukov CC for Lwow? You will only miss on 1. Using it for Kaunas means you improve a 50% chance of doing a step loss to 67% chance to do a step loss?!? I don’t get the logic, sorry. Yes, I understand 1 will miss, but in kaunas 1-3 will miss, but you can make it only 1-2 instead with Zhukov.
I think it isn't a mistake, it is an option. You can use for Kaunas combat if you like it more, then you can roll both 1 on defense and you don't inflict any losses, I just pick the more secure path, but of course is an option, not mandatory : )
Miguel Angel yes, it is true, an option, BUT, I think many players would prefer 2 rolls at 2+ and 3+ than one 4+ and one guarantee. I don’t know, maybe only me that plays risky. Anyway, I would suggest that it is better to use the 5th attack not to attack lwow, but to unstack the Romanian/German in the south at Yassi for free. Risky play is to strike the trench, but safer play is destroy the SU Scu and advance the Romanians.
@@ALimbOfGreatTree That's the beauty of this game, there is a perfect opening plan, at least there are options, more risky players will do other things but for beginners, I think this solves a couple of question (mainly because I see a lot of new players attacking Bialystok first!)

yes..in theory yes; but need the time to do it. The best part is that my English will be better now : )
Buen video.

Thanks for this video, just found it! Can I ask, why dont you try to save the Soviet army in Białystok R1 with a move marker into Baranovich?

Miguel Angel ah I missed that there is no route from there to a soviet unit. I thought the was a path to tell scu adjacent.
