Today we take a look at it and whether or not the classic size fits my wrist. How I feel about the quartz movement inside and the overall price point in the end. #cartier #cartiertank

      @@sunshinesuen6998 as far as I'm aware the 23mm is considered the most "classic" mens size for the Tank Louis historically. The new Must Small is 22mm and therefore even smaller which made it feel just too small for hence I opted for the large which @25mm is slightly larger than the Classic proportions 🙂

    The Tank is an icon and my favorite Cartier. Worn by hundreds of celebrities, including Steve McQueen, Muhammed Ali, JFK, Clark Gable, Andy Warhol, Cary Grant, etc. It is the perfect dress watch and looks fantastic on everyone. I think the large size fits you perfectly. A proper dress watch is small, thin and has 2 hands. The tank is not high horology, it is a statement. I have a large Tank Solo and love it.

    I've always admired Cartier from afar as I wouldn't really consider myself a "stylish person" and let's face it, Cartier is all about design/style. A few months back I attended a Cartier event with a local watch group where I got to try on everything from the basic Tank Must to pieces well over $100k, it was pretty awesome. Anyway, after attending the event I couldn't shake the Tank from my head. It was incredible on the wrist and I mean just look at it, it's beautiful. I contemplated it for a few weeks and I finally pulled the trigger after my local AD offered me 10% off. I've now owned it for about 6 months and I still LOVE this watch. It's easy to dress it up or down with a quick strap change and it's the most comfortable watch I've ever owned. Yeah, it's quartz but I honestly don't care because this one (for me) is all about the looks.

    I am a dress watch guy so naturally the Cartier Tank Must is part of my collection. The model I have is an automatic and I love everything about the watch which explains the amount of wrist time it gets. I also have the Seamaster worn by Pierce Brosnan in his first outing a James Bond. I was hesitant about buying it because of the quartz movement but now that I own one I find it to be great fun and the movement only adds to its value as a conversation piece.

    I simply don't enjoy spending thousands of dollars on watches. Recently I bought a Seiko rectangular watch that looks similar to the Cartier Tank. It is beautiful, classic, refined and high quality, as well as very reliable, at a couple hundred dollars. It is multiple tiers down from the leagues of the Cartier but I'm totally good with that. It gives me great joy to wear and knowing that it didn't cost me as much as a basic car.
    I now have 4 watches at under $800 each (including a Casio Eco-drive that I actually love), a Grand Seiko at $4,200, and a Longines at $3,500.
    I am a COO at a mid-size corporation and own homes, small apartments, and commercial land in two countries including the US west coast. I just get so much satisfaction at lowered tiered and therefore practically priced watches. Not sure why, but while I like the slightly more pricey watches, I just don't get more satisfaction wearing them.
    My wife on the other hand, owns watches and bags that cost as much as luxury cars. But the one she loves the most costs less than a thousand bucks.

    I feel the same about it. I think I'd have to go for the XL. The guilloche dial feels so much more elegant and mechanical nature combine to hit that sweet spot that the flatter dial and quartz don't. And when I wear a dress watch, I want to feel special.

    This video is so timely as I just bought a preowned Tank Must a few days ago. I actually had the opposite strap dilemma, my wrist is 6.5" and the cartier oem strap that came with mine was almost too long, I use the very first hole and it just fits my wrist. If my wrist was any smaller i would have had to have an extra hole punched. Not sure if this is an option at the time of purchase but sounds like people will need to to be diligent in determining the strap length prior to purchasing this watch.

    Kid . . . size is relative.
    I have an 8-1/4" wrist circumference and my collection contains watches from a 60mm (without the crown) Zlatoust 191ChS and a G-Shock Mudmaster (the big one) all the way down to a Cartier Louis (the "real" one). I haven't been able to wear a single watch that didn't need a custom strap made. No problem if it's $250 for a leather strap, but try to resize a Rolex or Cartier with a solid gold bracelet, needing an additional 2 inches of gold and you'll learn what financial pain is.
    You are absolutely right in that the Tank is not for everyone, and I'm glad for that, which is why I don't wear a Submariner anymore, and it's not a watch for working in the shop, which is why God invented the G-Shock, but its size is what its size is. If Muhammad Ali didn't look like a dork wearing a 23.5mm wide Cartier Tank, nobody does.

    With a 7.5 inch wrist, the Tank Must XL fits better. The dial also looks better on the XL. The only issue with the XL is its flat leaving some space between the strap and the case unlike the Santos which sits perfectly due to the curved edges. Not sure if that makes sense. JLC reverso fits better since they have curved edges on the case.

As for the quartz movement I think the idea behind that is not only price but also many small and large tanks will be uses by none gearhead woman who mostly what a watch they can pick up and wear with out the need to set. The same can be said about most small watches, even the likes of Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet and Patek all have quartz movements in their range.

    Yes the guilloche on the Tank Francaise is really nice - they only offer that on the XL, which also has an automatic movement. I also think £2660 for a quartz watch is a bit much, but: the new Tank Must large size has the same dimensions and case shape as the Tank Louis. The predecessor, the Tank Solo large, was bigger (34.8 x 27.4mm vs 33.7x 25.5mm), and had a flattened case. Maybe all that makes it less dressy? I think the design of the Tank Louis was never meant to be XL though. Cartier always made bigger watches in the past, for example the Cintrée or the Baignoire Allongée. But they are curved then, to follow the wrist. - A bit strange the strap was too short. Looks as if they were trying to say it’s a ladies’ watch, which it really isn’t.

    I picked up a maroon must in 21 and maybe it’s becoz I’ve filled out a bit but it does feel small on my 7 1/2 wrists. The XL I tried feels oversized for a classic tank although beautiful. I feel a size between the large and extra large would be perfect.
    The design is just perfection!

    I had a large Tank Solo on the bracelet, which I moved along a few years ago. Just yesterday, I picked up the large Tank Must in the all black dial - I really like it, but it does feel a bit smaller (perhaps as its on a strap). I have a slightly larger wrist than you, and the strap fits normally - the pin buckles four holes in.
    Agree that the lack of guilloche on the Must makes its a bit less special than than the solo.
    Awesome video again. Appreciate what you say - and how you share it - in the watch space.

    Great review! I owned a Tank Solo and sold it, decided rectangular watches were not for me. Also, I actually prefer dress watches on a bracelet (like a Grand Seiko heritage collection watch, as an example), but the Tank Solo's bracelet, which I did not even buy, looks quite bad. The Must actually has a very good looking bracelet, so I was a bit jealous of that. Sorry to hear the strap didn't fit you, for what it's worth, Cartier straps are awful. The leather quality just is not there, and very disappointing for a luxury company like Cartier. I swapped out the strap right away when I had mine. At least the buckle quality is good and well designed. I guess Cartier is just better at metal stuff rather than leather? Seems to make sense given they are a jewelry company.

    I appreciate this video because you discussed and compared their watch size and personal preferences. I made a mistake last year when I purchased an Omega Speedmaster 38. I purchased this online and did not have any experience trying the model on. I was so excited to own it that I ignored my own issue with the bracelet width. At the time I did not know why I felt a certain way about my watch, but it was bugging me. I have been wearing a DateJust alot during that year and love the proportions of the dial, bracelet width, and how it tapers down. The Datejust is a 36mm case with a 20mm bracelet width (lug to lug). The Omega Speedmaster was a 38mm case, but a 19mm bracelet (lug to lug). That 1mm difference bothered me and I could not get over it. I just felt the proportions were not right. Eventually, I gave the watch to my wife and it looks great on her. I realized that I enjoy a watch with a bracelet width no less than 20mm. Anything less, and it will feel feminine. I might make allowances if the watch was vintage, as 18-19mm widths were common in the 50-70s.
    I am eyeing the Tank Must XL. I have tried it on and I do like it's size. Not too large but not too small that I think it dainty. I think the lug width of the XL is 22mm, which I was surprised, but it looks great. I am saving to purchase it.

    • @MrCoachab
      @MrCoachab Год назад

      I don’t think the 1mm difference in lug width would have bothered you that much if the Onega would have had a 36 mm case, but since it had a 38 mm case it would actually look 3mm smaller than the dimensions of the Rolex…. Being that the Omega was 38mm it should of had a 21 or 22mm lug width to have the same feel as the Rolex

    • @gingicomingi
      @gingicomingi Год назад

      @@MrCoachab I understand what you mean. After owning a few watches I realize that 20mm is my minimum width when it comes to lug width. I have a 35 mm Tissot on a 18 mm band that I purchased in 2000 and I never wear it. It's too dainty for my tastes.
