- A magnificent epic set against a history of seven thousand years of the struggles of Gods and Kings and men - of strange lands and events - of fate and a prophecy that must be fulfilled!
THE BELGARIAD
Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil God Torak sought dominion and drove men and Gods to war. But Belgarath the Sorcerer led men to reclaim the Orb that protected men of the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe.
But that was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the dark man without a shadow had haunted him for years.
Brought up on a quiet farm by his Aunt Pol, how could he know that the Apostate planned to wake dread Torak, or that he would be led on a quest of unparalleled magic and danger by those he loved - but did not know?
For a while his dreams of innocence were safe, untroubled by knowledge of his strange heritage. For a little while...
THUS BEGINS BOOK ONE OF THE BELGARIAD
I’ve physically read these books 4-5 times and this is my 4-5 listen through. From age 16 to now 37. Such a comfort series. If you’ve not read/listened to them then my goodness, do!
David Eddings' works completely dominated the thoughts of my teenage years. What wonderful worlds and characters he crafted.
My parents named me after the boy in this story, and I feel like at 25, I should probably hear the story of my namesake. Definitely enjoying it so far : )
Lol, will and the word dude
That's amazing hahaha! I read those books when I was in my early teens and 20years later I still tell myself that if I ever end with a son I'd name him the same.
Your parents are freaking awesome! Be as you are, Belgarion
it's a hell of a saga.
whaaaaaat I'm jealous. On a scale of 1 to 10 how nerdy are your parents?
I just finished The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books again, and I cried at the ending like I did in 9th grade. It made me nostalgic, so I'm coming back to Garion and Aunt Pol for comfort.
I do know what you mean. It's like visiting old friends.😅
Me too. lol
I love Aunt Pol. And Garion is such a sweet lad. I am bummed that there are only three out of the five here to listen to, but I'm kinda surprised to find even them. I didn't know so many other's loved them like I do.
You might want to try the Sword of Truth series.
The first book is Wizard's First Rule.
A great series.
Happy reading.
@@windrider65 I have! Such wonderful stories as well. 😍
@@jessikagonzalez1033 I'm 57, and over the years my wife has gotten me the whole series autographed.
I just started reading The First Confessor again, and when I'm done with it I'll start on Wizard's First Rule again.

Omg I'm 18 minutes in and I must have forgotten how good these books are, and how they captured my imagination when I was a kid
I discovered this series from my Dad as a teenager, I revisit them every 5 years or so. My love of the characters brings me joy. Beautiful story, this would be a fantastic mini series.
Same here. I owe my dad for introducing me to so many great series.
Unfortunately David didn't want his work adapted and his current estate won't allow anyone to gain the rights to his works. The Belgariad would make an amazing movie series.
Same here and indeed.
My Older brother bought and read them and then i tore through the series right after, My brother's Son is named Darrion, and we joke and call him Bel, Man...This would make Great TV
Grew up on David Eddings entire bibliography in my early teens and just introduced my girlfriend to his books now at 22 and at the perfect starting point of course, she’s reading my copies along with the audiobooks and just finished book one. I’m so proud of her lol she loves these characters and she already can tell she’ll love this series
This series started my love of fantasy fiction. It is the book I judge all others against. Thank you for letting me journey with my old friends again. So wish I was as cool as Polgara or as sly as Silk.
If you have a chance to, check out the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.
Exactly the same for me! First ever fantasy series I read. 15 years later and thousands spent on books, I'm starting to think it was a rather expensive decision to read it
@@richardchamberlain7053 I never got into the wheel of time but another amazing set of books is by Raymond feist. If I'd read that first I'm sure it would have been my all time favourite as well
This was my first fantasy series as well.
My fave to. I will not tell anyone how many times i reread this series as its countless, but each time it was better saw more. I have never read anyother book multiple times. But i also love Robert Jordan Wheel of Time , Raymond E Feist Magician and Terry Brooks Shanara seires. I wish i could still read books like that now, but no time. But these giants and others opned the world of poasibilities for me.
David Eddings was a powerful inspiration that Robert Jordan acknowledged not only in content and style, but work ethic.
Had there been no Belgariad and Mallorean, there likely would have been no Wheel of Time, or it might have been a far different work.
Master Eddings is a giant in the field of high fantasy, upon whose broad shoulders many an author has stood.
Bought the series when stationed in Germany 1983/87. Bought all his other books coming stateside. Have read them to my girls and grandkids. They are passing them on. What a wonderful way to give. Thanks for the audio. ❤❤❤
A horrible child abuser. You might feel differently about the stories if you know about Eddings' history.
I read and loved all David Eddings books as a young woman. I loved introducing my sons to Garion, Silk etc and they are now lovers of fantasy. I am going to listen to this with glee. Thank you! What a series of movies these would make.

When I was 10, I started having severe insomnia. My mom couldn't sleep either, so one night she started reading this to me. The next night I had my mom leave the book with me and I had finished it by dawn. 20+ years later, I've lost count of how many times I've read these books and how many copies I've (lovingly) read to death. Polgara the Sorceress is still my favorite book and I doubt that's ever hoinh to change 💜😊
I started reading these books when I was in the 8th grade and was quickly hooked. I even read them to my little brother over summer break. Im 41 now and I still read these beloved books. Thank you for uploading them in audio. I can do my housework and listen happily to the books
I also found them in the 8th grade and am 49 now.
I started reading them in 8th great as well, I am 42 now :)
over 20 years ago i read this book
its still feels like magic to me
Same here!
33 years to be exact for me and i am so elated i found this tonight 🥹🥹
I read the whole of the belgariad, and the first 4 books of the malorean. 6 times while waiting for the final book of the malorean. I didn't want to leave the characters, until the story was finished.
I am so stoked to find this, I've been reading David Eddings since "Pawn of Prophecy" hit my bookstore in 1982, now my roommates hate me, but I don't care, I have it playing 24x7, turned up past 11, Murahahahahahaha!
Read the books for the first time in about 2020. Since then, I have been hooked. About every 6 months to a year i am somehow drawn back to listen. Suchhhh a great series.
I'd never heard of this author until literally today, listening to this audiobook right now in bed before I fall asleep.
Reader does a great job with the voices but I have to admit that hearing the beautiful raven haired Polgara voiced by a man has shattered the image my teenage mind had created.
This was the first book series that kept me so interested that I couldn't put it down, and I'm dyslexic.
Being dyslexic myself, Terry Goodkind did that for me. Finding a book series that is almost instinctive to read is great.
I’m 49 I read these books a lot it helps with my bad depression and anxiety these help it. I’m so glad I found this channel so I can listen while working.
Read this series as a kid of Garions age... funny how my own mind has remembered this series, great to revisit it at 46! Being named Cherek was always a cool coincidence too-
You’re called Cherek?? Amazing!
Reading it again at 47, such a comfort read.
Cherek! Wow!
My dad gave me these books when I was 11/12 and I absolutely loved them! It's amazing listening to them on here, and along with Terry Pratchett's Disk world books gave me fantasy worlds to escape into and taught me your imagination can take you any where and that's really a beautiful lesson. ✨Peace Love and Prosperity to all✨
So true.
Ever read Raymond E. Feist?
Another worthy Epic.

Great job by the narrator. I love free audio books on RUclips. I've discovered so many authors through it and then gone on to buy the books. I've known about eddings for years but probably would never have given him a try before hearing this, now I will buy the whole series
He's good, so is R.A.Salvador.. The Dark ELF trilogy
Yes between this and audible I am very happy.
David gemmel?
@@schmeegil2240 what about him?
Wheel of time on youtube. My fav personaly.
I grew up in a house where high fantasy and scifi were really important to my parents and my brothers and I loved it I read this series from my dad's bookshelf in 2014 and have loved the writing of eddings ever since on of my favorites so happy for this audiobook keeping me entertained while at work
Coming from Africa, precisely Ghana i was introduced to 'The harry Porter Series' before a book-worm friend i made in High School introduced me to David Eddings's serial. I must say, i immediately could tell from 'The Belgariad' that this was the mother of all other epics. If ever J.K. Rollings had a teacher, i bet it was Mr. Eddings.
Brilliant books. I do struggle with some of the names of people and places. They are difficult to pronounce.
@@rebeccagough1309 It's odd hearing the names I've pronounced in my mind differently these many years and hearing voices much different from the ones I heard speaking from the characters I've so long loved visiting with for so many decades.
Add game of thrones to the class ANN MCCAFFREY dragons were borrowed also.
Try David gemmel, druss the legend, but read the book!
This series launched my love of Fantasy. I compare every fantasy I read to these books.
Spent a lot of fun days in my 20s finding every single book in the series for my collection. I later gifted them all to the friend who originally got me onto them, but I had a sudden craving! Very pleased to find the audio here.
I love the writings of David and Leah Eddings. It’s been a long time since I’ve read the Begariad. Thank you.
I've read all of his books twice.LOVE THEM,LOVE HIM.SAFFIRE ROSE IS MY FAVE.SO EXCITED TO FIND THIS IN AUDIO.
I started to read these books and series while in primary school/junior high and always love the rich intertwine of language and self made ones for the storyline, including using of archaic tongue. Having these books on my bookshelves right now is a great memory.
This was one of the very first fantasy novels I ever read as a kid/Teen. Aunt Pol was my inspiration of the type of woman I wanted to be. So much so that I even dyed a white witches brow into my hair when I turned 18. I've read the whole 12 book series, 3 times through since then. It's nice that RUclips has it in audio book. I hope the rest of the series can be found.
It's a shame kids don't read anymore,, they would develop a better mentally from reading, then from what they see in music videos.
did they undo everything at the end and make it so that it was like none of it ever happened? they did that to me in another series and it seemed really stupid and rushed and I'm reluctant to invest anymore into these authors
@@quonomonna8126 No, they don't end that way. The ending is very beautiful and very fitting. A perfect ending. There is so much adventure, intrigue and emotion right to the end. You will love the hero's and mourn the enemies. The beautiful thing about this series though, is that eve when it ends, you still have 2 more books that will take you back to the beginning of it all and fill in all the blanks. Please reply back to me once you finish. I'd love to hear you opinion on these wonderfully, cherished books.
@@jessikagonzalez1033 Thanks, I'm just blowing steam, I was going to listen to it anyway ;) they do write some emotionally compelling stories, that's why I was upset enough to write a letter to them hahaha...I was very attached to some characters and everything I got to do with those characters was undone as if it never happened!
@@quonomonna8126 What story was that?
I've read all the main fantasy novels, yet this is the only one I keep around and re-read from time to time. It is just so pleasent and charming.
Eddings, Feist and Tolkien, I read all of their work repeatedly. I’ve done so for many years and haven’t got bored yet.
Check out Robert Jordans Wheel of Time series. There are 14 books in the series and the last three are coauthored by Robert Sanderson.
All of them??? Bit of an exaggeration don't you think.
David gemmel?
Brilliant books-series, brilliant characters, great storylines, wonderful sense of humor per character. I used to read a LOT of fantasy, but the Belgariad is and remains truly special! #1 on the list!
Never thought Silk would sound like Count Dracula. Who knew? It's great to be able to listen to these! Definitely adds a layer of experience to my favorite series!!
My husband and I discovered this series when he was driving a semi. We chased them all over the country. Now that he's going blind we're thrilled to have found at least 2 of them. I really wish you could upload the entire series. We do thank you for the few that you have uploaded. :)
you ca get almost all of them on amazon cheap
You can get the full set om audible
If you can't afford it, I can upload the entire series to Mega for you. Let me know!
@Lolvi6 wow , sometimes my disdained disgust of the internet, gets humbled whe someone like u pop up . Well done. Seriously, amazing effort
I've read this series so many times. Getting beyond double figures now. Always find something new and feel great at things in familiar with. Best series of books why has this never been looked at for a film. Belgarath would sound good as Anthony Hopkins.
Anthony Hopkins my favourite actor
Read these for the first time as a teenager in the 80s. Very pleased with how well they stand up decades later.
My favorite narrator reading my favorite author. This is a joy. I've read all of Mr. Eddings' series and it is wonderful to have found the first audio version read by Mr. Byerly. I am enjoying it immensely. He is good enough that eventually you can know who is speaking, just by his presentation. Huzzah!
I think Belgarath and Aunt Pol raised me more than my own family did at times.
...i always said motley crue was my mom and dad...but it really honestly was pol and the old wolf...i said that motley crue shit to be cool because i was a drug addled child locked up but these books...all of them saved me...then when i read polgara the sorceress remembered the lessons of the other books and learned the meaning of loss...eddings david and leigh had my number
...and apparently so did you
Can u touch the orb?
This man is a performer and an artist. I can literally see the whole thing in front of my eyes thanks to his voice acting. He must love what he does!
Who is the reader
@@jasonouellette374 Cameron Beierle is the narrator.
@@Loki-and-Thor need to find more of his work

I've read the series many many times... Many years ago a younger sister put me on to this book: It too started me on many a fantasy journey.
The narrator is fantastic!!
Counting how many characters there in the series this reader is very good. I read these books way back when, fell in love with David Eddings books we're lucky to hear them on an audiobook.
If you like good narration, Steven Pacey does a fantastic job of The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged and Last Argument Of Kings by Joe Abercrombie. The first two books are on RUclips and are fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed them and would definitely recommend them.
in 1988 in grade 10 i found this series and devoured it~thanx for this nostalgic & amazing upload i look forward to listening to some old companions in this audiobook it's almost time travel
My dad bought these books for me in 2016 when I started highschool, took me forever to finish them but loved the story all the same. It’s nice that I can have someone read it to me with different voices instead of the same basic one in my head.
Knowing the troubled history that David and Leigh had in real life with their adopted children, and the complicated sympathy with which they treat Torak in the series--I have to imagine all 7 gods lived in their household. The wisdom of Aldur, the robust joy of Belar, but also the dark self loathing of Kal Torak for a past sin that could never be atoned. Life can be so horrible and so complicated.
Didn't they lock their kid in the basement or something?
@@ItachiUchiha-lr3yr something like that
@@ItachiUchiha-lr3yr One child was found badly beaten and in a cage in the basement half naked. They also found restraints bolted to the walls of the cellar. Both David and Leigh Eddings were convicted and did prison time.
How could such beautiful stories come from them? Just going to focus on the books that I love so dearly and try to forget about what they did in real life…
Situations are very nearly always more complicated than a court verdict or even a police investigation might indicate.
Off the top of my head, there are children/adolescents so violent or evil, parents can fear for their other children or themselves. In some states it can be enormously difficult to get useful help with a hardcore problem child.
Leaving malice aside, I have a 27 year old cousin who’s 6”8, 280+ lbs, and the mind of a toddler. He accidentally fractured my aunt’s jaw during a night terror, panicked when he heard her choked scream, and despite the house being super-baby-proofed, did a few thousand dollars damage trying to make himself a place to hide.
Point being, again, things are generally a good deal more complicated than they might first appear.
I'm so happy this is on here. Audible no longer has this series except for the spin offs on Polgara and Belgarath.
First read all the series ,starting in 1983. Old friends, revisited. Thank you.
I have rarely seen a writer who actually makes characters that are believable and don't have over the top erratic or emotionally unstable conversations that bring a false sense of tension or danger. These were fun and enjoyable. Everyone was likeable for different reasons and the humor wasn't cheesy or forced.
Thank you a lot for sharing this treasure with us ! To all viewers : the voices are EXCEPTIONAL ! You will enjoy it !
Can't believe it's been 37 years since I first read this book. By far my favorite series of fantasy.
About 30 years for me, and loving every minute of it!
25 for me. Gave me a live of this genre.
I first started reading these in 1989
I think it’s strange that you read a name, and you have a way that it sounds, in your head, but someone else reading at aloud sounds wrong
This is my first experience with this author and I like his writing skills a very good read
The narrator doesn't do the story justice (unfortunately), silk is so funny and sarcastic. But where this tries to do accents, he is missing the fact that he is constantly making fun of both barrack and Mr wolf. And I never felt that chereks would sound like Russians or Scandinavians.
But Imo this story beats LotR.
Oh my gosh! I haven't read this in years!
Now it's read to me. Cool beans 😁
These books are such a comfort, I’ve read them countless times and this is my second listening of them, they never get old.
When i joined the military in the 90s and knew i was going to be out at sea for long time i bought this book Eye of the World and Magician Apprentice
Great trio of books
I did the same in 93 in the Corps - literally those three books.
Good reads :)

Bought the first book in the army on the iron curtain in the 80s.

I read this 40 years ago while stationed in Virginia. So nice to hear it now.
I remember reading these as they came out. My best friend and I passed them back and forth depending on who would get the newest one. The wait between books was torture but well worth it. When the Mallorean series came out I switched to the hardbacks because I couldn’t wait for the paperback editions. Listening to them brings back so many memories. Thanks for posting.
Narration in this is absolutely fantastic. I was given this series when I was 14 and read it many times. My books burned in a fire when I was 18 or so and I never replaced them. Someone in a podcast mentioned them and I was like ohhh damn lemme find the audio. As a 50 year old I have a much different perspective on this series and it is like a brand new story again. I used to identify with Garion, now I identify with Belgarath. Hello to the others who all recently rediscovered this amazing series.

I'm now on the third set of these books. The first set lasted from the late 80s to the early 90s, they were borrowed and never returned. The next set lasted from then until now, but some are missing covers and all have frayed edges. Now I'm getting my daughter hooked on them and had to buy the one great big volume. I have every single book he ever wrote. Some I like more than others, but the Belgariad is my favorite. Re-reading them feels like coming home.
But seriously, who made the Norse Alorns into Russians?
My parents are huge fans, my name is Garion and my sister’s is Adaira (Garion’s cousin in the book) and my sister named her daughter Ce’Nedra. I read both series in middle school and always find myself remembering the characters and the story and it fills me with a love and joy I can’t explain. I love this series so much.
Thanks. I own all the hardbacks. It is nice to listen to the series. I have read it so many times I lost count.

Phenomenal. Thank you.
I read this book when I was living in Knoxville in 1985. I finished the whole trilogy within 3 nights. The story was so much different from Tolkien. I was very excited to find another genre of fantasy books. This series still entertains me. However, I could not never finish The Mallorean nor other David Eddings' books. That is strange since I read hundreds of fantasy novels during those years.
