  • There are many ways an author can annoy a reviewer of a scientific paper, but poor writing is guaranteed to elicit negative comments. In this two-part video I offer a sampling of examples of scientific writing that may irritate a reviewer and provide some guidance as to how to improve the writing. I’ve compiled these based on my own forty-year experience as a reviewer as well as what colleagues have told me bugs them. This is Part 1, which introduces the topic by providing a few examples of actual reviewer comments about poor writing. I cover four ways your scientific writing might aggravate a reviewer and what you can do to avoid it.
