    I know this video is old, but I just want you to know that these videos talking about what being a vet is really like have helped me a lot. I'm just in high school trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, and vet work has always interested me.

    Dealing with rude owners is what I hate. I walked straight out if the room with a smile on a rude arrogant owner today . One out of 50 is ok.

    Sad to hear vets and other staff having burnout.
    You all do the best job you can.
    Going university is very expensive.

    I struggle watching one of my pets sick... I can't imagine watching everyone else's pets sick, injured & dying. Just like a doctor I'm not surprised the suicide rate is high

      It can definitely be challenging Kris, and we all have our different ways of coping. Tragically for some, the damage done is too great

      @@OurPetsHealth I have a question if u have any free time, I have a GermanShepard/Lab going through his second bout of Nystygmus. I learned from the 1st time that constant care ie: helping walk, toilet, feed, change position, talk to him pat and help with a nice cool, clean environment besides all these thing's is there a medication I can put him on to help ease the symptoms. Been that he has had this once before he is very tolerant to it (as much as u can expect) but I am just wondering if I can do more?

      Hi Kris, I've got this video about home care if you've not already seen it - ruclips.net/video/NRR2qr6Ce_g/видео.html
      Medication wise, your vet could prescribe an anti-sickness medication if there is vomiting or nausea and a rehydration solution can be beneficial if not drinking a lot. Otherwise it's just TLC as you are already doing. Of course if there are multiple repeat episodes it is always worth rechecking that there isn't actually something else going on

    I don't want free services. I just want Vets to stop overcharging. It shouldn't be a $200 bill just to get amoxicilin for my cat... Some pet medicine should be available OTC, yet we are forced to go to the vet. Everytime, for everything...

    It sounds like most of the cons are solely because of the human contact that comes w the pets 😂

    Hello Alex, I loved your videos, I am thinking of becoming a vet currently I am in 9th grade
    Also, are there types of vets for specific animals or is it general?
    Is it hard for having a pet cat as a vet due to work hours?
    Sorry for the questions I want to make sure before I make the final choice

    Thank you for your great videos! I think being a vet is very hard work. I am sure most pet owners do appreciate all the hard work you do. My vet is fantastic. He spent his time, when she should be at home, taking care of my cat in her last day when she was taken as an emergency and died few hours later. I think most vets do care and try to help as much as they can.

    Great Video! I think it is really necessary that pet and non-pet owners hear this truths to get a better idea of how the job is and hold back a bit from making unrealistic assumptions overall. Having vet work experience in two different countries, I have found that the proportion in which this things occur are slightly different, but to my disappointment (after fairly naive expectations) there are always there. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Cheers!!

      Thanks for sharing your experiences. Unfortunately, I think the challenges faced are shared all round the world but, like you say, the proportions may just be somewhat different.

    I have been paying $120 a month for a year and before that paid $160 every month for a year before my cats were neutered and $70 for their 6 month pest control supply for my 3 cats to be under wellness care plans. They were lovely before hand I didnt mind paying the money even before the plan and the visits would be a couple thousand. I've dropped over $10,000 saving my rescue kittens when I found them sick with respiratory issues. Within the past two years I've been trying to do the best I can for them. However, since covid hit they stopped letting people go in with their pets. I've had to drop them off and it has gave me a lot of stress. I have asked for certain things to be done and tested and getting double charged for things that the plans are supposed to cover. And when they come home it seems like a lot of the things haven't been done. This upsets me and I wonder if it would just be easier to find another vet.

    There is a vet, she is currently under burn out. Feeling alone, underpaid, over worked, dealing with a one owner bashing their practice currently being the last straw, even though she saved many lives, this one negative thing is taking a toll on her. She is dissapointed after four years of fighting. She is thinking of leaving it now, because she is thinking about not living and death . She is a damn good vet, she might have become a super vet. I told her to take a break. Maybe she can return. She says she didn't have a good weekend since ages, because there are less and less vets to work, she would love to do a course to improve her skills. But they are expensive and she cannot afford it.
    This is so sad. Is there any vet or an Organisation, with whom she could have a talk. Her employer is not very helpful. We friend cannot understand much to help. We could only provide comfort.

    I brought my Border Collie rescue to the vet and the first thing he said was 'So what is this? Some kind of Border Collie or something" I wanted to turn around just then and there and ask him: ''What are you? Some kind of doctor or something?'' I just kept quiet though...

    • @OurPetsHealth
      @OurPetsHealth  5 лет назад

      Thanks! Pet insurance is something I think everyone should at least consider as it can make the difference between being able to treat a disease or injury compared that might otherwise result in death. It's a big topic and one I've discussed in this video - ruclips.net/video/FJOVZ6xGPwk/видео.html

    The worst thing about being a vet is: When they have to put dogs and cats down. It makes them heartbroken💔. Most owners wont wanna be in the room. The last thing the dog/cat sees is them looking around for there owners

    • @HeatherDMorris
      @HeatherDMorris 3 года назад +1

      I find some do and some dont want to be in the room . I get that. We all deal with it different. I'm a vet and two of mine were put to sleep without me there. One just didnt wake from anesthesia and one did but was in so much pain I said let him go now. I wasn't gonna make him suffer with a broke back another hour just for me to see him. I asked the speciality doc to give him a kiss and tell him I love him as I cried my eyes out . 18 years with the dog and suddenly never see him again. Life changing .I respect any way a person wants to do it as long and its ethical. Of it is a convenience killing its not happening by me.

    Thoughts on vegan diets for dogs?

    • @OurPetsHealth

      I know there is a lot or work being done on this with fungi I believe replacing the animal protein. One veterinarian I have a lot of respect for (Dr Ernie Ward) is heavily involved in this and I think it likely has a lot of potential to revolutionise the sustainablity and environmental impact of feeding our pets (and ourselves). At this stage though it is not something that I know an aweful lot about to have formed an opinion one way or the other. I'm definitely watching this space though
