Diana turned 18 this last May, living at home, attending The Russian Institute of Fine Arts (GITIS) in Moscow. She first gained a world wide audience is when she was 14. Dernière Danse, Wicked Game, Rechenka, Blizzard and Human were performed in a talent competition featuring orphans and disadvantaged children. Diana was an orphan at a young age. This show is more of a variety show than a competition. No judges...those are all singers. Each singer sings a different genre each week (Saturday evening) and they rate each others performances amongst themselves (they are about halfway done now). Diana is an amazing, amazing young talent and she has a mesmerizing vocal color with a powerful, round, full, rich, lower register. She is dignified and humble. She's as good a person as she is a singer. There are a number of incredible young talents rising right now and Diana is certainly one of them. Enjoyed your video.

Welcome to your first introduction to Diana, she's one of the greats. Many people have been following her career for years. She's still only 18 here but has been performing on stage since she was 5. What sets her apart from the masses besides her unique tone and contralto voice, is her ability to "live" the performance through her emotions very soul. That's why she will shed tears afterwards, it's an emotional release. Yes she won that episode. This performance is part of a 9 episode contest on NTV channel that runs over 9 weeks with 9 contestants competing across 9 different music genres. Diana was invited to participate and is by far the youngest competitor. It's a friendly competition where all 9 contestants are also the judges! Scores are given but don't really matter. This show is more about experimenting in different styles and genres and getting out of the "comfort zone". Judges give scores between 2 and 9 (the highest). The winner is tallied up at the end of the episode from the judges scores. Scores from the contestants carry over each week and an overall winner will be announced in episode 9. A new performance is televised each Saturday. This was the first episode, this Saturday we are waiting for episode 5 where Diana will perform a Russian rock song. It will be epic! :) she is currently 2nd place overall. And never will you meet a person more humble than Diana, she's just an incredible human being.

I knew you would appreciate Diana, not just for her unique vocal skills but because she is an all in performer like Aurora is. The first time i heard Diana was when she sang Wicked game when she was 15 on another competition.I did not believe what my ears were telling me, her sound is so...alien i just could not believe it was real. Its all her. She is a remarkable sweet and humble young lady and she often posts little short videos on her youtube channel of her just being a goofy teenager. Diana had a very hard start to life. She was the only pregnancy her mother had that survived birth and diana was severely abused. She was found in the street in winter half naked with a broken arm when she was just 4. She was eventually adopted by the nurse at the orphanage that cared for her but Diana had suffered and she barely spoke at all. One day a family friend paid her adopted mother a visit and noticed Diana singing a song on a cartoon and he suggested she get singing lessons. Diana in addition to that dramatic contralto voice of her also yodels and slips in a yodel now and then in her songs.Also like Aurora, Diana and her music have a nature feel about them, almost like she is a shamaness.Oh yeah, she is also polyphonic meaning she can generate 2 separate notes at the same time with her vocal cords. have fun!
"Wicked Game" was my first experience of her, too. I was gobsmacked!! Love her voice, her style, everything! And the person that did the arrangement for "Can't Help Falling In Love" is a genius!
@@kwgrid have you taken a look at Dianas channel? She likes to post little short videos of her doing teenager stuff as well as some singing in her bedroom. She has a very quirky sense of humor and her natural voice can be as deep as her singing voice. I saw a video of her in a recording studio recording i think take on me but i am not sure. She did it in one take and afterwards let out a shout of joy that was unearthly. So loud, so deep and so powerful. I half expected the wall to crack from the force of her shout.

This amazing young artist has come a long way. She was physically abused by her mother and left injured at a bus stop when she was aged 3. She was in an orphanage, then adopted and her life became much more positive and her talent has blossomed. Diana has, thankfully, such a great future to look forward to after such a devastating beginning to her life.
They are all her competitor. They are well known singers in Russia. The rule of this show is that they cannot judge themselves or score themselves but they need to judhe and score their competitors.

This is a great performance by Diana she is just 18yo here but there is so much more to discover. She has been singing literally before she could talk, try Wicked Game (15yo) Rechenka (14yo) and many, many more. Yes, a singing contest so no auto tune or electronic augmentation. She has appeared in several competitions, Rechenka, she performed in an earlier one at 14 brought her national recognition in Russia. I know you aren't a vocalist so you can be excused for not really understanding what you are hearing. She is 18 here, so still very early in her development as a female singer, but I believe she is a true polyphonic contralto, {rare}, with amazing range and control. I hope as she matures that she will transition into a full dramatic contralto, {very rare}. The judge standing on the top row with the beard and tears in his yes is Yusif Eyvazov who is married to Anna Netrebko, both well-known and respected opera singers. What does it say about her performance if she could move him to tears?
That's a contralto (not baritone) voice she begins with. And it's in a minor key, that's why it sounds so haunting and weird. This is definitely NOT the first time she has blown Russian audiences away, which she has been doing since she was younger than 14. They knew who she is.😎

These are all competing artists also judging each other. I believe there are 9 episodes of this show. She has several performances on another competition that is more like "The Voice" talent shows. An absolutely must listen, is her "Wicked Game" performance.
You were right that her early phrases were still in head voice despite being low notes. Her full modal voice is insanely deep. Like Tanita Tikaram deep. You also noticed this was done in Harmonic Minor. DIssonance is one of her trademarks. That breathy quality is an overtone. She is a master of polyphony/harmonics. Overtones, undertones, subharmonics. You won't hear it too much in her western song covers but she does a lot of Russian folk and there is an overwhelming amount of dissonance via unnervingly deliberate descending glissandos, microtone bending of notes, eastern runs, and yodeling. This competition is a lighthearted one consisting of people who have won other competitive singing shows and gone on to start their early careers. Nine singers, singing nine songs from nine categories. This particular song was from the Grammy category. One of the categories is "singer's choice", they don't get to choose their songs otherwise. It's somewhat meant to nudge them out of their comfort zone. Diana is not about love songs, for example. Which is why this cover and her cover of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game are so different in tone. She's much more in the folk lane. At the end of every episode every singer has to rank each person relative to the others, from 9 to 2. You can't give out the same point total more than once, so someone gets 9 and someone gets 2 no matter how good everyone is (which is apparently the Eurovision style). Diana won the first night by a mile. The winner of each daily total sings an encore performance of the song to end the episode. If you want to start from the beginning go with Rechenka, when she was 14, on the competition You Are Super! which is for disadvantaged children. Igor Krutoy is one of the people behind that show and was her mentor on it. She won two consecutive seasons of it, along with some other competitions. She attends GITIS in Moscow which is like Julliard School in the US. She likes to perform at a lounge style restaurant called the Woodgrouse Nest Bard Club.

@@poolhallshark I recommend exploring her RUclips channel for the less trending performances. The NTV (HTB in cyrillic) network just has such good production quality that the audio is almost always top notch, so any time she performs on that network people clamor for it.

Some details of this performance: The ShowMaskGoon is a new TV show on Russian NTV channel, every saturday (5 episodes left, 4th already aired), where best/winners of 3 music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar) perform, and vote giving 2 to 9 points to each other at every episode's end. So those sitting up there are the other singers, Diana sits with them when others perform. Plus the guest star of each episode, this time it was Yusif Eyvazov (opera singer, tenor, he stood up during the performance). They got only one 9 point, one 8 point, etc. So they are forced to give 2 points to someone, and they wont vote for themselves. She got 7x 9 points, 1x 8 points this round. The guest star of this episode gave 1 point to everyone equally = 72 total. In each round, the participants will be offered nine topics: for example, one will perform a folk song, the second - a song by a Grammy award winner, the third - a rock hit , etc. " The nine categories are: "People's Hit", "Song of the End of the 20th Century", "Soviet Song", "Hit from Every Iron", "Song of Your Choice", "New Music", "Song from a Movie or Cartoon", "Rock Hit" and "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates". I've been following her for a while and she is phenominal. She can sing the proverbial 'phone book. When you have seen some more stage performances try "Havana", a home studio recording from last year. It shows her fun teen girl side.
Finally someone mentioning Havana! I love that one, especially knowing about the hard times she been through, to see how she's still able to enjoy herself, be playful and have fun. And it is a great rendition of that song...!
Her polyphonic abilities are brilliant. Polyphonic meaning her ability to blend her octaves and tonality, morphing one into the other. Virtuostic. This is no competition lol.

Hi thanks for your reaction. Diana is a dramatic contralto I just woke she has access to the baritone notes that you’re hearing. The judge’s are also her competitors. Each judge performs a song for nine weeks in a row. They judge each other every night. Diana won this first song the first night. And she also won the overall competition against professional singers in Russia. Diana is only 18 years old

Welcome to your first introduction to Diana, she's one of the greats. Many people have been following her career for years. She's still only 18 here but has been performing on stage since she was 5. What sets her apart from the masses besides her unique tone and contralto voice, is her ability to "live" the performance through her emotions very soul. That's why she will shed tears afterwards, it's an emotional release.
Yes she won that episode. This performance is part of a 9 episode contest on NTV channel that runs over 9 weeks with 9 contestants competing across 9 different music genres. Diana was invited to participate and is by far the youngest competitor. It's a friendly competition where all 9 contestants are also the judges! Scores are given but don't really matter. This show is more about experimenting in different styles and genres and getting out of the "comfort zone". Judges give scores between 2 and 9 (the highest). The winner is tallied up at the end of the episode from the judges scores. Scores from the contestants carry over each week and an overall winner will be announced in episode 9.
A new performance is televised each Saturday. This was the first episode, this Saturday we are waiting for episode 5 where Diana will perform a Russian rock song. It will be epic! :) she is currently 2nd place overall.
And never will you meet a person more humble than Diana, she's just an incredible human being.

I knew you would appreciate Diana, not just for her unique vocal skills but because she is an all in performer like Aurora is. The first time i heard Diana was when she sang Wicked game when she was 15 on another competition.I did not believe what my ears were telling me, her sound is so...alien i just could not believe it was real. Its all her. She is a remarkable sweet and humble young lady and she often posts little short videos on her youtube channel of her just being a goofy teenager.
Diana had a very hard start to life. She was the only pregnancy her mother had that survived birth and diana was severely abused. She was found in the street in winter half naked with a broken arm when she was just 4. She was eventually adopted by the nurse at the orphanage that cared for her but Diana had suffered and she barely spoke at all. One day a family friend paid her adopted mother a visit and noticed Diana singing a song on a cartoon and he suggested she get singing lessons.
Diana in addition to that dramatic contralto voice of her also yodels and slips in a yodel now and then in her songs.Also like Aurora, Diana and her music have a nature feel about them, almost like she is a shamaness.Oh yeah, she is also polyphonic meaning she can generate 2 separate notes at the same time with her vocal cords. have fun!
"Wicked Game" was my first experience of her, too. I was gobsmacked!! Love her voice, her style, everything! And the person that did the arrangement for "Can't Help Falling In Love" is a genius!
@@kwgrid have you taken a look at Dianas channel? She likes to post little short videos of her doing teenager stuff as well as some singing in her bedroom. She has a very quirky sense of humor and her natural voice can be as deep as her singing voice. I saw a video of her in a recording studio recording i think take on me but i am not sure. She did it in one take and afterwards let out a shout of joy that was unearthly. So loud, so deep and so powerful. I half expected the wall to crack from the force of her shout.

This amazing young artist has come a long way. She was physically abused by her mother and left injured at a bus stop when she was aged 3. She was in an orphanage, then adopted and her life became much more positive and her talent has blossomed. Diana has, thankfully, such a great future to look forward to after such a devastating beginning to her life.

Yes, a singing contest so no auto tune or electronic augmentation. She has appeared in several competitions, Rechenka, she performed in an earlier one at 14 brought her national recognition in Russia. I know you aren't a vocalist so you can be excused for not really understanding what you are hearing. She is 18 here, so still very early in her development as a female singer, but I believe she is a true polyphonic contralto, {rare}, with amazing range and control. I hope as she matures that she will transition into a full dramatic contralto, {very rare}. The judge standing on the top row with the beard and tears in his yes is Yusif Eyvazov who is married to Anna Netrebko, both well-known and respected opera singers. What does it say about her performance if she could move him to tears?

You were right that her early phrases were still in head voice despite being low notes. Her full modal voice is insanely deep. Like Tanita Tikaram deep. You also noticed this was done in Harmonic Minor. DIssonance is one of her trademarks. That breathy quality is an overtone. She is a master of polyphony/harmonics. Overtones, undertones, subharmonics. You won't hear it too much in her western song covers but she does a lot of Russian folk and there is an overwhelming amount of dissonance via unnervingly deliberate descending glissandos, microtone bending of notes, eastern runs, and yodeling.
This competition is a lighthearted one consisting of people who have won other competitive singing shows and gone on to start their early careers. Nine singers, singing nine songs from nine categories. This particular song was from the Grammy category. One of the categories is "singer's choice", they don't get to choose their songs otherwise. It's somewhat meant to nudge them out of their comfort zone. Diana is not about love songs, for example. Which is why this cover and her cover of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game are so different in tone. She's much more in the folk lane. At the end of every episode every singer has to rank each person relative to the others, from 9 to 2. You can't give out the same point total more than once, so someone gets 9 and someone gets 2 no matter how good everyone is (which is apparently the Eurovision style). Diana won the first night by a mile. The winner of each daily total sings an encore performance of the song to end the episode.
If you want to start from the beginning go with Rechenka, when she was 14, on the competition You Are Super! which is for disadvantaged children. Igor Krutoy is one of the people behind that show and was her mentor on it. She won two consecutive seasons of it, along with some other competitions. She attends GITIS in Moscow which is like Julliard School in the US. She likes to perform at a lounge style restaurant called the Woodgrouse Nest Bard Club.

She already trained her voice even further at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow where she studies, yet
she is still super young (18), and personal experience cannot be exchanged with the very much always needed learning, doing drills after drills after drills (Like Dimash).
So in this way it is good she can experience so many cool performances first hand, live, inspired, and also singing 9 songs from different genres will be challenging but rewarding in the long term.
Some details of this performance:
The ShowMaskGoon is a new TV show on Russian NTV channel, every saturday (5 episodes left, 4th already aired), where best/winners of 3 music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar) perform, and vote giving 2 to 9 points to each other at every episode's end.
So those sitting up there are the other singers, Diana sits with them when others perform. Plus the guest star of each episode, this time it was Yusif Eyvazov (opera singer, tenor, he stood up during the performance).
They got only one 9 point, one 8 point, etc. So they are forced to give 2 points to someone, and they wont vote for themselves.
She got 7x 9 points, 1x 8 points this round. The guest star of this episode gave 1 point to everyone equally = 72 total.
In each round, the participants will be offered nine topics: for example, one will perform a folk song, the second - a song by a Grammy award winner, the third - a rock hit , etc. "
The nine categories are: "People's Hit", "Song of the End of the 20th Century", "Soviet Song", "Hit from Every Iron", "Song of Your Choice", "New Music", "Song from a Movie or Cartoon",
"Rock Hit" and "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates".
This song in this first show is for the last category "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates".
