    Doesn’t wood conditioner lift wood fibers requiring a light sand?

    Americans are too lucky, you have all the products required for such a good result. Here in europe we cannot do projects like these because they will end up blotchy and unprofessional. not to mention sticky

      @@MyProjectWeekend We have high humidty but I can deal with that. What I cannot deal with is that its impossible to find high quality wood stain, without varnish in it. The ''pre-staion'' wood conditioner doesn't exist here either. and besides all that, there is only 1 kind of polyurethane available. Other finishes other oil finishes which are not the most resilient event though they bring out the wood nicely

    I have an ikea product calls Behandla …. No info on the tin no technical info it doesn’t even say what it’s for ! So I binned it and bought Osmo oil for all my worktops .. much better . Why would I use a product with no info . ?

    I have a IKEA Galant desk that has a rough wood veneer top. It's not smooth and feels like rough wood to the touch. Would I have to use a filler on top first and then stain or will I have to sand it smooth? Thanks.

    would you recommend sealing the underside of the table or will it be safe from warping or cupping when only doing the top side alone?

    • @MyProjectWeekend
      @MyProjectWeekend  2 года назад +1

      I personally wouldn’t seal the underside of the table. It’s mainly to protect the finish and area of the table that receives use. Unless the bottom of the table is seen or used I wouldn’t see a reason to seal it. Most tables I see don’t have a finish underneath.

    If I'd want to paint the table would I follow the first 2 steps? After sealing it prime it then paint it?

      Hi there! If you want to paint the table you don’t need to seal it first. You can just prime it then paint it. Is the table unfinished wood?

    hey! thanks for the informative video. I was wondering if there are any types of sealants that dry matte rather than have a reflective gloss?

    • @MyProjectWeekend
      @MyProjectWeekend  Год назад +1

      Of course! I have seen some polyurethane sealers that are matte, Varathane makes one. I’ve never used one so I can’t speak to how it looks. Satin will be the next choice for lower reflective sealers then gloss has the most shine.

    Do you sand after each finish coat?

    • @MyProjectWeekend
      @MyProjectWeekend  4 месяца назад

      No I only needed to sand after the first coat dried. Run your hand over it and it will feel bumpy or sandy. After I sanded down the first coat all the other coats were smooth.

    What type of/level of sand paper should be used?

    • @MyProjectWeekend
      @MyProjectWeekend  Год назад +1

      I used 220. both to sand the wood table and to sand the polyurethane after the first coat.

  • @cutu4ever
    @cutu4ever Год назад +1

    Can you explain why each step is required? I’m trying to learn and also do 😅
    Also, do all stains appear darker than they are? And if I use the seal on the same pine chairs from IKEA, would that work? Also, how do you calculate how much of each you need? For instance, this will be my only project that requires me to stain, sand, etc

  • @liu408

    Is it possible to minimize the excess stain so you can wipe lesser also can save some materials to cover more sections

    • @MyProjectWeekend
