Best thing I did was stop using cheap sandpaper. 3m cubitron is only a bit more expensive last long and better dust collection.
Happy holidays, Marie. Great info, as always!
Marie, I totally agree with your first statement. I did force myself to watch this video and in the end came away with some insights and useful information. Thanks for Sharing!
Love your outtakes! Appreciate all the sanding tips.
Gonna have to check out the interface pads! Thanks for sharing!
I saw you using that Micro Zip sander on one of your videos and immediately bought one. I'm so glad I did. It has come in handy so many times.
Bill
Thanks for all the sanding accessory info! I've have some but have added several more to my wish list. Happy New Year to you and thanks for another year of great video's!!!
Nice blooper reel. I have always believed it adds realism to a great video.
I tried an eraser recently - I don't know why I hadn't tried it before; wow, what a difference.
I didn't know the backer pad savers were even out there. I recently replaced a pad. Had I known about the pad savers, I would have used one well before now.
Thanks - Blessings - Lowell
Great info, as usual. I have the set of contour sanding backers, and they are indispensable for the odd shapes you may need to get at. Thanks for the other ideas.
Awesome video and great information as usual. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Your videos are awesome. Stay awesome!
Those contour grips are genius!
Thank you for sharing. Awesome video, love the ending. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
I invested in one of those rubber sticks this year to clean my sanding devices and it’s like magic! Works waaaaay better than I expected. It’s so satisfying to use as well 😂
Great video. I want to check out the sanding pads. That is a great idea.
Stupendi consigli... Grazie per i suggerimenti❤
Thanks for all the tips, Marie! 😊
I hope you had a fantastic Christmas! And happy new year!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That's awesome tips that will save my sandpaper,
Thank you 💐
Thanks for the tips! I’ve been a Designer and Builder for decades… Recently Retired. I’ve been doing all kinds of woodworking projects recently and never realized how much sanding is necessary to fine tune the quality of the outcome… Dang! I plan to buy some of the time savers you shared! Hey! I just bought a Jet 2244 Drum Sander too. A game changer! Cheers!!
Thanks for the video. I also recommend the Milwaukee detail sander. It is like the oscillating multi tool but is lighter, has speed settings and battery powered
Excellent video. My wife does Nails in her spare time she gave me 100/180 Nail sanding sticks which work great for many applications.
Thankyou for the tips and video
All GREAT suggestions Marie. Will have to "invest" some more money into the shop. Have a wonderful 2K24 and we look forward to the videos! !! !!!
Great tips thanks for sharing
Excellent!
Thank you for the tips
Hi Marie, you are great as always,,,❤💐
I worked for a company that built subsea equipment and the owner got one of those belt sanders and had a guy dedicated to rounding the corners of the steel beams. Worked really well.
Ooh, those pads! Yeah I need those.
The finger belt sander is for pipes perfect for scuffing up before gluing PVC or soldering copper. Also good for burring metal edges .
Merci pour cette excellente vidéo! Beaucoup de bons conseils.
You are soooo correct. I hate sanding.... by hand or with power. It influences what kind of projects I do. Use to like doing bandsaw boxes and router bowls/shapes. Now I really hesitate doing them.
Did pick up a couple of good hints. Thanks. Always interesting. JimE
Thanks for the great tips. I had not heard of the sandpaper cleaner before. I feel like I’ve wasted so much sandpaper.
The finger belt sander works great for coping molding
Very good advice!! Sanding does suck, for the most part, but everything you mentioned does something to at least make it more gratifying (I don't personally need the knife sander, but everything else is essential for general woodworking). After a good deal of agonizing, I bought a festool Rotex 125 used on ebay a couple years ago, and now wish i had done it much sooner It (almost) makes sanding fun. One of the first things I did was build a wall-mounted sanding disc storage area. However i think the one you built is far superior. Mine stores the discs vertically, which at the time seemed like the best idea; but in practice it usually results in an entire wad of discs coming out when I'm reaching for one. I'm going to scrap mine and build your version. Thanks for another great video!
The belt file/sander was extremely useful when I was a machinist making automotive manifolds with lots or holes and sharp edges that had to be sanded. But honestly I can’t imagine a woodworking project that I have done that I would have used it. They are pretty aggressive and clumsy.
I love the drawer liner idea. I've been looking at sanding mats and the price and available sizes have given me pause. All I need is something to protect my workpieces and keep them from sliding around but I don't have a huge area to work on. The drawer liner idea, especially the product you linked to, looks like the perfect solution, size and cost-wise.
I have some of those contour tools. Very handy, indeed. I have a drum sanding kit for my drill press but I've never used it, even though I've had situations where it would have been better to use it.
I remember seeing a video on a sandpaper organizer where they added dowels to the pull out shelves that lined up with the holes on the discs. At first you would think it would be inconvenient in that you couldn't just slide a piece in or out. However, with the dowels being short enough, you store the discs grit down, so that all you had to do was drop your orbital sander on to the dowels and the discs were attached to your sander perfectly aligned with the holes.
They are also as anti-skid mats for in cars, so they sell them nearly anywhere.
the Wen Dynafile. It is used for edge sanding. I used it for sanding edges of sheet metal for years.
I think the sander makers need to include those backer pads. I had lent out my gum sandpaper eraser to someone...and now I remember WHO still has it! And great tip on the profiles for detail sanding.
Thanks good information
I pickup the sanding erasers at Harbor Freight. They last forever! Great tips!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. More than 30 years ago, Black and Decker made the so called Power File. That time I didn't do any wood working or DIY, so I didn't buy it.
I don't remember, if it was possible to put it an angle. 100 dollars is definitely worth it. Btw I need that sand paper cleaner.
Sanding sucks….end of video…nailed it.. great video!

Belt sander - yeah, I've got it since it was very cheap, also, trying to figure out whether it will be useful at all)). Multitool (Makita DTM 52 in my case) - comes out to be very handy in certain situations, and I am happy I have it, since it saves time. Need to note that DTM52 is very different to other models (Makita ones included) because of very low vibration.
Great video! 😊
Rag'n'Bone has a video on his channel about how the pad saver makes the 3M extract a lot louder. So mileage may vary...
Hello Maria, I have seen the cordless belt sanders in use at swamp meets doing live log carvings into beautiful large bears or Indian Chief wearing the large feather Head Bands & seen then carved out large owls . . . Amazing tool for wood sculpture artists
Hello. The finger sander you were using is for when you do welding on cars and you have to clean down the welds in hard to reach places
The contour sanding excessory seems to be the way to go for trim work. But the isolating tool I will have to try
never heard of the sand paper cleaning stick. its amazing .its like Elfin magic!....peace out
I've been using the sanding eraser I inherited from my dad over 20 years ago. Still going strong.
I decided some time ago to make four 1/10th scale models of my vintage car. I had two 3D printers to make the parts with, one resin, one FDM, which needed sanding, especially after applying car body filler. I found an old electric toothbrush in a draw and wondered if it could sand. I hot glued a lolly stick to the back, used double sided tape to attach sandpaper, and tried it on a 3D print with body filler on. It worked! Slowly! But it worked. I also bought some double sided foam tape that acts as a flexible backing pad. It will sand the wooden panels on the models too. Stop laughing, it works!
@lornablewettandlee504 Great tip!
that hand held belt sander is use a lot in manufacturing to sand welded frames
I enjoy sanding.
The Wen sander, I was hoping I could use it to square off the end of a router slot where a bolt slides back and forth.
😀the multi tool triangle head also makes a great hand detail sander.
And the sandpaper is cheap😀
I have never thought about trying to convince myself sanding is therapeutic! Are you challenging us?
If you really want to reduce sanding effort make sure you buy a 6” random orbital sander and not a 5”. Big difference in sanding speed.
Have you tried the “Preppin’ Weapon” sanding block? They are anything but cheap to buy but they tenatiously hold exactly ¼ of a sheet and come in different colours so you can have different grits identified. They are also waterproof, very comfortable to hold and work for wet sanding. They are a great sanding block!
The 1/2 belt sander came from the metal working industry as far as I know and was designed to replace hand files or grinders for detailed work - they have been around for a long time - Makita have made them for as long as I can remember.
Great Video / Excellente vidéo / des erreurs amusantes
Everybody is so abrasive when it comes to sanding...
The Wen is for holes and pipes that you can't put a regular sander into. I mostly use it on metal, one of those things you rarely use, but nothing else will do when you do need one.
When this video came out I said ... "Another sanding video. PASS" Now, In the process of refinishing a koa wood coffee table and if I could show you some of the tight areas that need sanding (on carved surfaces), the video solved some of my issue. Mahalo !
I'll also plug a triangle shaped hand detail sanding block from Gator, maker of the MicroZip rectangular block. Aloha
The backerpad will help a lot with 120grid sanddicks
Hi, Sanding suck except if you have the good tool :) I love my Mirka Deros 5.0 ! thanks for the tips ! oh and for the first tip some bottle avec a cork not in cork but in kind of plastic you can use them for cleaning the sand-disc ;)
That long nose sander would be most useful at getting in-between the bars on balcony railings ( none of my other sanders will get in there )
Have you done a review video on that Mirka sander that I could watch ? How do you like it ? is it a game changer for you ?
I currently have about 6 different sanders ? but just can't bring myself to drop a G-note 🙀on the Mirka / thank you 🙏
The Mirka is great, definitely a significant step up. Especially the dust extractor is a game changer for me
@@DIYMontreal / thank you for the feedback , appreciate the reply . 🙏😸
I never heard of "PRINCE AUTO"...must be Canadian, eh!
The best way to avoid sanding is to get yourself a nice No.4/5 bench plane and learn how to properly sharpen. Also some scrapers and learn how to sharpen and set them up.
Merci pour les infos Marie. Il est un peu tard pour Joyeux Noël mais à temps pour Bonne Année, santé, amour et un peu de vin. Paix dans le monde! 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
I got three good ideas from this video, so it's a Great Success. Put these together with the 3M Cubitron paper, and there are real winners to be had.
My thumb was up right after "Sanding sucks !"
Vanna White move at 2:13😂
Funny, the Rigid oscillating sander is sitting right there and you didn't say anything about it.
I don't think the camera needs sanding
