    Great video! I'm thinking of replaying Berseria, and this was a very good crash course to relearn the game (and some things I learned just now).
    But there's one thing I must point out: Magilou's Break Artes aren't random, they actually follow a certain order. MELOO has a video explaining it in more detail.
    Also (minor nitpick), Zwei and Drei are German for Two and Three. It's pronounced Zvi (as in vile) and Dry (with a hard R).
    Aside from that, great job. You got a new subscriber.

    Another couple of things when chaining Mystic Artes: You CAN repeat characters, so long as you have chained to a different character between Mystic Artes. Additionally, Dual Mystic Artes can be staggered in the chain, so your party formation isn't required to put the 2nd Dual Mystic Arte immediately to either side of the 1st, it only cares that the chain have started with a Dual Mystic Arte.

    the only thing i'm missing is that dual mystic artes are cheaper in chains the game will still take the 5 bg if you have enough but 4 and 3 are also enough to do one thats why endless chains are possible

    • @cardadcgt-buildingdecks
      @cardadcgt-buildingdecks  10 месяцев назад +2

      IT IS TRUE! I had to try this. Yes, after the first dual mystic arte (You must start everything with a dual mystic arte. It will not work if you start with a character's individual mystic arte even if other characters are in the appropriate party positions to perform a dual mystic arte) if characters are in a position to perform their dual mystic arte (If you have it unlocked.) the game will have them do the dual mystic arte instead of any of their individual mystic artes. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
      An example of what I did for anyone reading this in the future. Character line up with BG amounts.
      Velvet BG 8 - Eleanor BG 6 - Eizen BG 8 - Magilou BG 7 - Laphicet BG 8 (out of combat) - Rokurou BG 7 (out of combat)
      Activated the dual mystic arte for Velvet+Laphicet. Chained to Eleanor. Chained to Eizen which does Eizen+Rokurou's dual mystic arte. Chain to Magilou. Chain to Eizen AGAIN which is also Eizen+Rokurou's dual mystic arte. Chain to Eleanor. Chain to Velvet which is Velvet+Laphicet's dual mystic arte.

    I'm surprised you didn't mention malak arts cast times being shorter if you cast them during a higher stage of a combo. I like to quickstep 3 times and cast the spell on the 4th stage, SG costs are lower too. I abuse this when I want to inflict status ailments or removing them.

      I didn't mention cast times being shorter during combos? *goes to check*. Yea...I did not. Thank you for pointing that out. I also never thought to quickstep to reach higher stage artes either.
      The only thing I did not see after trying it though was the SG cost for the arte being reduced after quickstepping 3 times and casting the malak arte on the 4th stage. Using 3 quicksteps looks like it uses 30 SG since a whole soul is red.
      I used Void Mire with Laphicet, a 30 SG malak arte, after doing 3 quicksteps then casting it. It uses 2 whole souls.

      @@cardadcgt-buildingdecks I dunno about 'madman', but I do love the series, berseria being the best one. Haha. It's not also that hard. The AI is competent at dodging, so as long as you keep your companions equipment upgraded and learn every skill you come across you should be fine, well that and being comfortable with adapting strategies conforming to the foes you encounter. I find the puzzle element to find the adequate strategy for each encounter quite fun, and because of that I find myself swapping gears and titles every dungeon, basically.
      Having said that, perhaps I am mad, haha.😁
      I remember doing the same on zestiria, but for that game, as long as you build your gear for each monster type, they stand no chance. Like, even the final boss, if you build 80% Vs dragons on each party member, he ends up being a joke, even on chaos, this can't be quite replicated on berseria so I welcome the added challenge even if the game is overall simpler.
      You should probably do Zestiria too, I'd totally favourite that video too.😁
      Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Like Zestiria, Berseria has the antagonist arts mechanic as well. Martial beats malak by interrupting, malak beats hidden( hit casters with hidden and it shorten cast time), hidden beats martial( hidden breaks through martial).

    i always had trouble connecting with the combat in this game, since i ended up just mashing the a button to get it over with.
    while i really liked vesperias approach on how the systems could be performed alone and or connected together. for instance at the start of the fight estelle performed angel ring while i was casting ritas violent pain. seeing all these slippery enemies getting cobbled up and eaten by tentacles after kicking my a** made me die of laughter or even witnessing ritas endless toilet flushing.
    vesperia also had a more natural skill unlock progression and better mechanics explanation.
    berseria throws stuff at you but never really makes it clear on how to connect them and you end up mashing just one button because it kinda works while robbing you of the challenge/fun.
    i already tried to look up combat mechanics quite a while ago, but there wasnt really anything clear/useful since the majority of people seemed to have given up on the combat.

      I'm right there with the majority. In that I go off of the information the game gives me so if it does not explain itself well I'll also be mashing those buttons. If I find I enjoy the game's combat enough I may look into it (these videos are partly an excuse for me to learn more about some games 😅)

      I'm sure that is the route most people went with the combat because Velvet is extremely strong and the easiest to use by default. Learning the extra stuff really makes fights feel smoother and more enjoyable for me. Especially for action games.

    This is such a great series! Especially for games like Berseria that are frankly too complicated for their own good. In that vein, a guide for XC2 would be great, since that game is notoriously terrible at explaining itself, and as much as I love Enel his guides aren't terribly well organized and also have mild spoilers for lategame enemies in them.

    • @cardadcgt-buildingdecks
      @cardadcgt-buildingdecks  Год назад +1

      Thank you! It means a lot. You are not the first to mention Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and it does VERY much deserve the Building the Deck treatment. I just can't guarantee when I'd do it. Enel is THE Xenoblade man. I've watched some of his videos over the years.
      As for spoilers. Some of my videos have clips of late game areas. I abhor spoiling stuff so there is no context for where in the game a clip is and I'll leave out bosses unless absolutely necessary. Like this video for example. Oscar is in it but that is at the beginning of the game. My point being I go out of my way not to reveal too much unless it is relevant to the video because I want people to go play these games for themselves.

      Funny enough, I think Berseria is way, WAY oversimplified. The ability to just set up your own combos basically removed any amount of skill required in the combat.

    • @cardadcgt-buildingdecks
      @cardadcgt-buildingdecks  Год назад +1

      @@dojelnotmyrealname4018 Yes, it is simplified with how the artes window works and even further simplified with the derivative artes. There are enough other mechanics that help with the complexity along with any efficiency you would like to have. Like understanding/paying attention to number of souls, artes chain (white outlined souls), BG, and which mystic artes/break souls will be activated when. I'd say the complexity evens out in the combat overall.
      It is still very much a rpg so you can get away without fully understanding or using all of its mechanics, because I definitely did. The combat example in the video was me feeling like I 'understood' the combat. That was not the first battle recording I had intended to use. I realized I had to change it later.

      @@dojelnotmyrealname4018 It is simple in one way, but so very complex in another way. To actually perform combos, you can simplify it by setting "You Decide" to all 4 stages of a button and just mash that button, and/or use the derivative combos (something I never even knew about until this video lol) but yet, you need an encyclopedia to understand all the systems stacked ontop of each other. So, there's a highly ceiling for knowing how the system works, but yet a lower ceiling to actually perform what you want to do, if that makes sense? The knowledge aspect is what makes it so intimidating to the new player, like every other battle during the first 3 hours of the game gives you info dumps and tutorials of things you might not even think you need to use because enemies are so easy during the first 5 hours of the game. They're talking about switch blasts, and you're going "... why do I need these? enemies are dying just fine by spamming Velvet's attacks" ... then, like 20 hours later, in the latter stages of the game you're getting your butt kicked and you've likely forgotten about some of these finer details of the battle system.

      For Berseria bosses my strat was to combo it for a moment then back away and repeat. Then when about half health start a mystic arte chain (during a chain combo is preferred 43:59) 1:00:19 and cycle through the whole party. You want the boss to die from the chain. At low health they spam stuff more and are a much bigger pain. I've lost fights when I was close to winning.
      Use 4:07 Prioritize Defense to help the AI stop rushing in. Just don't forget you can turn it off by pressing and releasing the button.
      You can turn off attacks for the AI to make them more focused on enemy weaknesses or make sure they are only fighting at range. 1:19:55
      Under Strategy the options you see in the video Is basically what I left it on the entire time. Specifically what is under Tactics and Blast. You can also tell the AI to attack at range here. I wanted to handle all BG spending manually so I could have the BG for the mystic arte chains without worry. Can't say I recommend this due to the micro managing unless you enjoy that. 1:18:06
      Primarily using Velvet helps too if you can keep her in therionization due to being unable to die while it is active.
      Of course don't be afraid to spend those gels.
      I hope some of this helps with future bosses. I also can't be more specific since I'm unable to see exactly what you are doing.

    Ok combat system but more in the field of flashy animations and not much substance imo ( Like Arise). Compared to say Graces F or Xillia this games cpmbat isnt as good imo, but its still ok
    I played this game on Intense difficulty and it still felt pretty wasy as I almost never wiped. I would definitely say I was not a god of the combat system (which sometimes was not even explained properly). Control Velvet, hold R2 down, and perform artes that say power hit (elemental weaknesses and carried over from xillia and Zestiria). Spirit Drop on Magilou was also pretty OP
    When you are out of souls and everything stops I didnt like it. I am not a fan of fatigue systems. Zestiria had one too but it was less annoying. In fact Armatization is just a much better mehcanic imo
    Characters csn steal dropped souls which was annoying
