The secret of the 2500 is use it on "Old mode" which it feeds back the output into the detector circuitry , and then use the output knob to introduce compression leaving the threshold at unity. That way you will benefit from the saturation stage at the same time getting compression. Thats how you make the drums explode.
It's really impresive to see that someone still can pay attention to detail in any shape or form of their work. I see you that way. Very nice, clear and helpful job with a good feeling. Bravo!
+Marcin P Thank you for your kind words! We strongly believe the details are what make the difference between 'good' and 'great' :) Thanks for watching.
Prism Sound Atlas...easily the best value of all interfaces where mic pres and world class conversion come together. I owned the Prism Lyra 1 first and was so impressed with the conversion and so delighted with how clean the pres were I sent it back for the Atlas. Best gear decision I've ever made.
+jaceklis76 yeah bro, congrats. I'm somewhat of a pro audio broker, so i help musicians and engineers find the right gear at the right price...i often advise people to go with Prism b/c their gear sounds absolutely beautiful and it is actually a better value than all the other high end converters. I'm actually thinking about getting a Lyra 2 just to keep in my bag for on-the-go production duties.
finally a great video with less talked explanations and the gear working ... and if we wanna listen how gear change the sound we need to listen the gear in action. great job
Great video! The API 2500 is the next compressor on my list. I use outboard gear mainly and still record to tape, the API is a must for my studio :) I do have the waves plug-in for now but nothing like hardware IMHO. I am a bit old school, so I am still a big fan of hardware and tape, nothing like it :)
+Raytheon Orion You sure can! www.traxsource.com/track/2616797/papa-was-a-rolling-stone-extended-mix It's by Sunlightsquare, and is the classic Papa Was a Rolling Stone! Guaranteed to make you groove ;)
two questions why does the VU meter start from -3 but says plus 3 which is diffrent from the plugin + and could make a video just on the thrust mode cause i dont really get it and i cant really hear what its doing?
I did, very much. It's nice to see someone actually knowing what they're doing for a change, as opposed to people who push buttons and hope for the best!
This was a great video, the Atlas and API is a beast. I would like to see the Atlas used with the SSL Fusion or Dangerous Music D-Box +. If Doctor Mix can make this happen great but if anyone else has a link pls share
Hi Rafael, they are very different in their character. The 2500 is much more aggressive and quite similar to the SSL Bus Compressor. The Manley Mu on the other hand is a bit softer and adds thickness to the sound.
Good question! We chose to use the IN switch as it's is a soft in/out button that defeats the compression action silently. The Bypass button is a hard-wire bypass and the transition between in and out would have been a bit more abrupt :)
Hi everyone, what do you prefer between “Med“ and “Loud“ Thrust Mode? Do you think I should choose one in particular if I'm mixing modern rock-country?

Wow, sure does!
Still the best sounding Gear Videos on RUclips!!!
+Miesn Thank you very much, we really appreciate your support! :-)
@@Doctormix I will have to second that motion, through my studio headphones sounds pretty dope

Anyone can blindly tell it's API 2500 sound. Best compressor ever heard.
Instant vibes. The thing I like about this compressor is how snappy you can make things, such as drums.
Is it just me or does this thing sound pretty much amazing on all settings?
thats the problem
simply my favourite compressor ever... i really love it.
It's mediocre, at everything.
in comparison to what?
Anonymous like you?
Said no one ever 😅

+bigdap100 Just switched my Lyra2 for Titan, and awaiting delivery..

amazing! I got an amazing deal on an Orpheus and switched from my Apollo. have 8 amazing sets of Io is so welcomed!
Damn track sounds great, I would've sworn it was made in the 70's
Another great vid
Thanks for watching! :)
LOVE UR CHOICE OF MUSIC -ALWAYS SWEET AND PUNCHY ---THANKS
Hi Surya Moorthy! Glad you enjoy our videos :-)
finally a great video with less talked explanations and the gear working ... and if we wanna listen how gear change the sound we need to listen the gear in action. great job
+Daniele Vogrig We feel the same way! That's why we always try to shut up and let the gear do the talking ;) Thanks for watching
Thanks man, just got this on UAD and now cannot wait to get stuck in!
Fantastic compressor. One of the greatest for sure.
HOLY COW! Im new to the world of gear, this thing is beautiful sounding!
This it's amazing! Very clear and powerful sound, puchy and warm. Love it!
I used it on electric Bass too. Great sound not only on sub-mixes/instrument groups but also on solo instruments.
Good presentation! Also well coded for RUclips. The differences in various settings come across very well in spite of YT. Good job!
Thank you Fredrik!
very very nice demo of the 25k
love it that you don't overlook the extreme settings.
gives a feel for the units flavor.
thanks for the medicine Dr!
God damn that sounds good. API is an incredible company.
Always awesome guys, keep it up!!
+Fwuzeem Thanks for the support! :-)

+mixc8 This hardware unit is something really special ;) Thanks for watching!
my favorite
Great cover from Papa was a Rolling Stone - do you have a link to it? :)
great sounding demo! thx!
Daym. This thing sounds great!
what a happy compressor
It,s a Family-Compressor! Didnt you know this? At Christmas everybody can master his favorite song again
Superb I wished I get one on my apollo sometime.
The punch of the snare after 7:22 reminds me to only one plugin compressor. dbx 160.
Hi Chuchu! We love the dbx 160! It doesn't quite have the same texture and punch however, but it is very good! :-)
What is that song that you did for the mix bus?? It's so freaking sweet!
Yeah thank you very much Doctor Mix, now i just need 3k to buy this!
Great video man. Can I get a link to that track featured on the mix bus setting segment? Holler!
+Raytheon Orion You sure can! www.traxsource.com/track/2616797/papa-was-a-rolling-stone-extended-mix

cool video, also tune selection :)
+quasardubs Thanks so much! :-)
Love your vids! Thanks for the info
+Paul Lennox You're welcome. Don't forget to subscribe ;)
Generally speaking do you find the 2500 or 5500 more useful ? Thanks
Awesome compressor!

Excellent!
5:29 Track is killing me softly, beautiful Soulful Something Something....
I just came from a UAD vs Waves API comparison video. They both suck compared to the real thing! Thanks for the video!
Hi djGreenALERT! Glad you liked our video :-)
I did, very much. It's nice to see someone actually knowing what they're doing for a change, as opposed to people who push buttons and hope for the best!
Me too bud those where completely different audio files. Drums on thisone are way more smacky then the other video.
My all time favorite compressor.

what levels do you you send to your hardware please
In your personal opinion. This vs the Distressor ?
Both. Two very different units 😁
What do you think about Manley Mu vs 2500 in the 2 bus! Thanks
Hi Rafael, they are very different in their character. The 2500 is much more aggressive and quite similar to the SSL Bus Compressor. The Manley Mu on the other hand is a bit softer and adds thickness to the sound.
How is the 2500 for mastering hip-hop and bass heavy music? I've heard mixed reviews. Thx
Thank you for your wonderful review !! One can see how much shit on the market !!
Papa was a Rolling Stone
Need to get me one of this
Hello Dr Mix. Are Converters And Audio Interfaces the Same Thing?
U ROCK!
Why don't you just hit the bypass switch instead of the "in" switch to A/B the output?
Good question! We chose to use the IN switch as it's is a soft in/out button that defeats the compression action silently. The Bypass button is a hard-wire bypass and the transition between in and out would have been a bit more abrupt :)
Does the Atlas have better converters than the Titan?
No same but just 4 extra preamps. 3 years later dude!
are the drums samples
Hi everyone, what do you prefer between “Med“ and “Loud“ Thrust Mode? Do you think I should choose one in particular if I'm mixing modern rock-country?
It creates a mid range pop on the attack that I don't find pleasing.
Yeah, it's very midrange forward. Kills the high end, and messes up the low end.
its best on guitar
It’s still awesome
@@gregbradshaw7220 It's epic on rock drums, i use it all the time. It has so many settings though you can make it much smoother if you want to
Name of the Song...
+Hey Mike Papa Was A Rolling Stone by SunlightSquare :)
Clipping that beautiful converter is NOT the way to go, IMHO.
Actually that’s what you’re supposed to do with that one
Ned Snarky it depends on what you are doing. In mastering maybe, but not always in mixing.
Alberto Dati you don’t understand the finer points of mastering my friend.
Ned Snarky LOL ok.
^^^ 8 people need hearing aids
yeah +3K$ 4 that shit ...i prefer my good old DBX 166A or Rocktron 300G
In the world of mp3, these outboards have been sacrificed.
ha you don't know what you're doing with this unit
