    Hi Ben , great tips. Say you plan your route on the Gaia website and know the exact distance /milage of the entire adventure /trip. Also gives ya an idea of how hard it will be on your off-road vehicle.
    Do you plan refueling way points in towns so you never run out of gas ⛽️? Do you assume fuel consumption rate higher than the vehicle specs? Or do you modify your toyota for greater fuel capacity? Do You carry extra fuel storage containers?
    Thanks 🙏🏻

    • @BenStinnett
      @BenStinnett  3 года назад +1

      Hey Rome! That’s what I love about doing a little route planning beforehand. I can have a much more accurate picture of the distances between campsites, different trail offshoots, as well as a much better idea of how many hours I should plan to be on the trail!
      I typically try to plan refueling stops in towns along the way. I’ve seen the impact of tough tails on my MPG, so I basically assume my average MPG will be ~20% worse than my usual. I’d love to explore something like an auxiliary fuel tank, but haven’t yet. I’ve got a standard Jerry can I’ll carry when I need it!

    One tip from me.. I like to use the Google 3D maps to "pre-tour" some routes. I've found rough patches that might be more than my rig can take and I've found camp spots that way. Also, download the Offline Google Maps! Star spots that you want to see.

    As a beginner overlander / offroader. are those training expeditions worth the money? Offroadexperience, overlandexperts, discoveroffroading have introductory courses and such that look fun, especially for someone new to the areas and the hobby. Are they actually worth it?

    • @BenStinnett
      @BenStinnett  2 года назад

      Hey Joseph! It's a great question, and I'm afraid my answer may not be the most useful. I think that if courses are within your budget, it's a great way to explore a new area, meet some like-minded folks in the community, and pick some some new skills (or sharpen existing ones). Similarly, events like Overland Expo that have off-road training and experiences can be super beneficial, or even just linking up with a local offroad club for a group trip.
