The minute I laid eyes on Knut's sandpiper, I wanted to paint it! I love how people share their photography with me 🤗🤗🤗 !! And thanks for your warm hug of support! 🥰
Wow Cheryl love how you created a lot of palette using the primary colour those Paints so powerful and highly pigmented ♥️♥️♥️✨ love the bird painting dear so realistic 😍✨ and very beautiful 💖💖💖 have a great week Cheryl ✨
The Sennelier colors are really awesome (although I don't recommend that ruby red) but oh yes, highly pigmented and quite creamy and delicious to paint with! Thanks, dear Najzla! Hope your week is awesome too! 🤗🤗
Wow. This is absolutely high quality tutorial and painting process! Senallier is one of my favorite brand as well. I would like to try this paint. I like your lovely painting as well!
I love the Sennelier gouache (except that red!) but I've heard that the M Graham is absolutely delightful and I can't wait to get my hands on a set to try them out. I LOVE their watercolors 🥰🥰🥰
Good afternoon, dear Cheryl! So beautiful is this lesson of mixing colors and it is very useful! Beautiful paints and many resulting shades! The bird turned out great, its feathers fluffy! Thank you very much! I really like your paintings! Hugs you, dear Cheryl! Be happy! 🤗🥰💖💖💖
Many warm thanks, dear Grandik! I loved mixing up these new paints to see what colors I could get and the sandpiper was such an enjoyable paint! Wishing you a great day and loads of spring sunshine!!! 🥰🌺🌹
My lovely Cheryl. A pleasure to see your review on these colourful Sennelier Gouache paints , and very interesting to see the results on the swatches. Thanks for sharing your tips , and this tutorial. Beautiful Sandpiper presented in your Painting my wonderful TerraCotta friend. Big nature art hug Irene. 🥰👌🖌🎨
My dear Irene, it was so much fun to play with a new medium and Sennelier makes some of the finest watercolors so had to try their new gouache. Very delicious and almost spiritual because unlike watercolor, I could layer them and get so much tiny detail. And of course the sandpaper is such a delicate bird with a beautiful face and those long legs, it was so much fun to paint. Warm thanks, and I wish you a fantastic week 🤗👍💖🥰
Hi Cheryl, nice to have a lot of art supply brands and media to choose and review. It's great to have an insight of an art brand coming from you. As always, your animal artworks are always beautiful and awesome. It is astonishing to watch how you paid attention to every detail of the sandpiper bird, especially the fluffy feathers. Looking forward to your impressive future art tutorials.
Many thanks, J! And wow did I love this new medium. It's such a wonderful marriage of the easy smooth blending of watercolor and the layering of acrylics! I think you'd love it too since you like detailing in acrylics and the ability to paint with precision!
I don't like the red by itself but with the yellow and with the white, the color is a miracle for the eye! I find gouache the perfect medium actually and if you haven't tried it, oh yum, you will be enchanted I think!!! 🤗🥰
Dear friend Cheryl! ^^ Gouache! It's such a nice color!^^ Your delicate and kind teacher-like consideration is always impressive! The snipe and the background go well together, ^^ Even when I first saw your picture, you drew a beautiful bird^^ The snipe I drew today was so realistically drawn as if it would fly away in no time! I really enjoyed watching this great video! May you always be healthy! 😁👍
Many thanks, my wonderful friend! This was my first time to try gouache as a medium and not just as a way to get white back in watercolors, and have to say ... I am in LOVE! They paint out so smoothly and can layer like acrylic. So much fun, and thank you for your thoughtful comments! I so appreciate them! I hope your week flows smoothly, Ajae! 🤗
I'm in love with gouache! It was my first time to paint with them and I'd say the only downside is that unlike with acrylics, we can't just hang the painting on the wall after we're done but the paints need some extra protection like watercolors. But seriously, they're SPIRITUAL! 🥰🥰 Thanks, Annie, for your art smile!! 🤗
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta Just a thought, I heard some where that acrylic paint dries with tiny little 'holes' that catch dust over time. SO, to be on the safe side I varnish my acrylic paintings to make them easier to dust, bring out the yummy colors more, and give it extra UV protection.
Great review of Sennelier gouache paint. Yes, I also noticed that to make the color lighter, we need more and more white. The bird looks wonderful! Enjoyed watching the painting process. People have their way of painting gouache. Liked yours!😊
Good to be affirmed on the white. That blue was the biggest part of the learning experience in getting the lighter colors but then this is my first time to use gouache other than white in watercolor. And I LOVE how you use yours too! 🤗
Many thanks, Robert! I just learned some interesting color blending strategies about easily creating browns and grays and so blending this time was so much easier than before. Thanks, my oil painter - diorama creator friend!! 🤗
Hello Cheryl, ooooh your first only gouache painting and I love the bird you chose for it. I've never seen Knut's videos before but I was very impressed when I hopped to his channel. Bird watching is definitely a very rewarding way to connect with nature. Your sandpiper turned out beautifully, loved the details on the feathers and the well balanced colors. He blends perfectly with its surroundings. I would have loved to see more of the finished artwork in details but the video ended with you removing the masking tape and I could only get a glimpse of it. Birds are really your speciality and from the two spring birds I love the apple blossom bird best. My favorite spring bird here in Europe is the tit (we have a blue and black variety) and they are extra cute (so maybe maybe they are portrayed here by your). Have a lovely week Cheryl and extra big hug, Erika
Hi Erika! I just looked up the blue and black tit since I wasn't sure what it looked like and there are so many wildlife photographers posting on that bird, and Knut is one of them! They are really lovely, and our version on this side of the pond is the chickadee, rather similar colors with their caps but still obviously different. It seems their calls are pretty much the same, and they both feature heavily in artwork. Mmm, I'm sensing a suggestion and am loving it! And thank you for saying your favorite spring bird of mine was the apple blossom version!!! Was looking at that one a couple of days ago and thinking it needs to be repeated this year as negative painting in watercolor really creates such magical effects. So you're a bird watcher too I'm thinking. I dabble but after starting this channel, the dabbling has shifted to something more serious. Birds just make great subjects! Big art hug, dear Erika! Hoping you're enjoying the scents of spring! 🥰 Cheryl
I have never painted in gouache, but I've been interested in painting in it. So your teachings on color mixing and color swatches are impressive and helpful to me. Thank you 😊 💓 The harmony between the beach and the sandpiper bird is very nice and beautiful! 😍 The colors are very beautiful!!!
This was my first time to paint only with gouache and the experience was spiritual. You're a wonderful watercolor artist and the two main differences between watercolor and gouache is that gouache is opaque and you can layer very easily with it! I think you'd love the medium!! 🤗🌹🌺
Omg this is reminding me to open my gouache paints already, it's been stocked for about a year already because I am too intimidated by it 😅 Love your gouache set by the way, the colors looks so vibrant and you have an amazing painting 🌺🌸🌹
I know you love watercolor and so can confidently say you'll love gouache! You can get more detail and "if" you make a mistake, getting layers and building up colors and softening edges is so ultra easy! Yep, get those babies out and make a review. People LOVE reviews and artist impressions!!! 🥰🥰
That's an incredible review... Like how you make it so simple and enjoyable by your lovely narration... Thank you so much for doing this... Will be very useful and the Sand Piper looks so pretty... I am already following Knut's channel and I love his works...
Knut is a master photographer and he's proven that people don't need expensive equipment! And thanks for your wonderful comments on the sandpiper. I have to say that I'm now in love with gouache and am going out to find some different reds and blues to experiment with! Fun! 🤩🤩
Absolutely amazing painting! Very interesting to see the color swatches results! Thanks for sharing! I always enjoy watching your whole art process so much!!👍💕💞
I'm realizing I really like painting with limited palettes! I seem to get better ambience and color harmony and the challenge of that control is great too! 🥰
wow! gorgeous work Cheryl! love this little bird and the way you painted feathers... the backgound suits it great :) enjoyed it! have a wonderful day! hugz! 🥰😊
Thanks, Mary!! And if you're ever wanting to brand out from your wonderful watercolors,, then I can definitely recommend goauche! Hugs and more happy painting to you! 🥰🥰
Love how you layer those gorgeous feathers on the bird and the rocks behind it. The paints look so rich and creamy. The wave splashing on the rocks are so rhythmical for this work! I love it so much Cheryl!!!
Big thank you, SM, and I FINALLY bought my gouache set, and thank you for introducing me to it. You've been one of the people who has most inspired me with gouache, so we will see what else the brush conjures up. I really identify with this medium ... such delicious blends like with watercolor and layering like acrylics. I'm in LOVE! 🥰 Art hug to you and thanks for your inspiration! 🌹🌹
👍 #94 Hi Cheryl, I have to mention that right from the off, the second I saw your painting, I knew it was a Sandpiper! It was cool seeing your self-painted color chart come together, with that cool square-ended brush. I loved the fast-speed 'paint-job' and enjoyed how you went from one pallete to another, mixing a whole variety of colours for the bird. Every layer you added to the Sandpiper brought it slowly to life and it reminds me of when I first catch sight of a bird in my binoculars and I slowly see it getting clearer and then in full focus. In just over 2 hours, you have produced another wonderful and realistic painting. (I have some fabulous video of Sandpipers and their chicks too - just not had time to do anything with it... yet) Thank you for all your hard work, and for the editing work you have to do on your tutorials. *Hugs* 👍◕‿◕
Hi Jane! It's the fellow creators that appreciate the video editing the most. Thanks for that comment! Actually I got inspired a few days ago with an exceptional picture of a mom and chick and so hit Pixabay for a couple of hours digging around for more mom and baby pix. Thinking of painting a series, even if it's only 4 or 5. I'll be excited to see you sandpiper and chick pix when you share! The babies are so cute and with the long legs they look even more adorable! Hugs to you, dear Jane! I hope your weather is better than ours for some great shooting 🥰
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta Hi Cheryl, if you could see the babies get up and run, I'm sure you would find it both so very cute and absolutely hilarious! they are like mini Ostriches running at amazing speed. The weather here is lousy for a whole week, before it improves, urgh. On a plus point, I can catch up a smidgen on other things. Wishing you better weather.... *Hugs*
@@WildlifeBirdsUK Your wish came true! We had a touch of blue between the clouds today for the first time in days! No sandpiper babies so I'll wait for those. Hugs back :)
Yes..Spring is here! 🌷You put so much love and thought into your tutorials Nature Queen. 💕This is a very beautiful Sandpiper Bird. I hope you had a wonderful Easter and enjoyed the Carrot Cake. 🥕
Hahahaha, and in fact I DID ENJOY the carrot cake, but mine had chocolate chips and cranberries in it too. One is fruit and I swear the chocolate chips are a vegetable! Hope your have some delicious nibbles too and Happy Easter, Tracy!! 🤗🥰
The sandpiper turned out wonderfully. I enjoyed hearing your review of the paints and was surprised to hear there was one with four. I love Knut's videos! One of those videographers that is worthy of more views and subscribers.
Yeah, yikes on 4 pigments in one paint. That's almost criminal! As for Knut's channel, wow, he's good! You guys operate in the same field too so you're bound to cross paths often. And thanks for the big smile on the sandpiper! 🤗
You've got to do an art haul for it then! Gouache is relatively new and is becoming the new rage ... and wow can it be layered like acrylic and blended like watercolors. Call it magic!!! 🥰
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta I do love gouache, I've just only ever tried Holbein and W&N (and Himi). I just didn't know Sennelier was in the game! I've actually never tried their watercolors, either (I know, I'm literally the last to the game!) 🤣
I guess some brand really has better /bright/clean color. I stopped using acrylic paint lol 😂 getting lazy. That bird looks beautiful as the photograph.
Then you use only watercolor now? I can confidently recommend gouache if you've switched from acrylics to watercolor as these are a wonderful marriage of the two mediums. Very satisfying to work with! And thank you for your great comments 🥰
I must confess my acrylic brand does not mix as well as these do. They must have 10+ pigments 😂 It is something that I need to address. Love the bird painting but, have to say my eyes were on how meticulous the squares were made and how the paint fell precisely inside them, quite pleasing 😄 Awesome review and very insightful, as always 🥰🤗
I don't know of any brand of acrylic that blends like these gouache. It's my first time to paint only with gouache. I've only used white to get back the whites in watercolor but these are almost spiritual to use. They blend, lift and reactivate easily like watercolors and they layer like acrylics. What more could a person want? 🥰 And thanks, Koy, for the great comments and being so pleasing 😂😄
A stunning bird work. Very beautiful and polite depiction✨. A charming bird look💛. You have succeeded in communicating the charm of gouache👍. I felt that gouache was suitable for animal painting👌. Because the animal paintings are covered with hair, they have almost no blurring elements.🌌 Your excellent work has helped me.📝😊
Oh yes, Kei! I couldn't agree more! Gouache is absolutely fabulous for painting animals and birds and it's much more forgiving than acrylics as the colors can be adjusted after they dry! Thanks for your wonderful comments 🤗🤗
Well, I haven’t used water colors in ages but I gotta say I loved watching you paint those progressive shades in columns if squares. Kind of mesmerizing. 😉. The Western Meadowlark is my nomination for a spring bird painting. 😊 👍
Thanks, Mark, and I guess you could call gouache watercolor. It's certainly a cousin, but if you ever want to try a medium that marries watercolor and acrylic, it's gouache. This is my first time to paint only with the medium but it blends and reactivates easily like watercolor yet layers like acrylic. Spiritual! 🥰 And I just looked up reference photos for the western meadowlark before I committed myself. Apparently we have the eastern version here in MI but I'd love to paint the other. So what is your medium of choice - watercolor, gouache or acrylic? 🤩 I found loads of information on the bird, which sadly seems to be on the decline along with many birds of late. This will be fun! 😄
Thank you, AJzilla, and shouldn't you be getting out your paints again! You absolutely work miracles with the brush and you're still so young!!! Many thanks for your art hug, my friend! Stay creative too!!! 🤗🤗
This was very informative TerraCotta! I can apply many of these color blending things in my color tattoo works! Enjoyed watching, and painting at the end looks fantastic as well!
Now that's what an artist says! From watching another medium and then application to their own! Your tattoo nibs and how you use them give me ideas for smooth background painting too!!! 🤗🤗
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful bird! 10/10 you made it looks realistic 😮 I never heard about that gouache before so now I have to check it out on Amazon😅 ❤ thank you for sharing😊 Great art video as always❤
Thank you, Juneko! It's my first time to paint a full picture with gouache, but I have used it for getting the white back in watercolor. And gouache and water mixable oils are the new and quickly growing painting mediums! I'll try the water mixable next! And happy painting to you!!! 🥰
The painting is incredible and this set of paints looks so good quality - it looks like they aren’t available in Uk though 😩I may have a look when I am in London next
They were new on the shelf in Korea and I have yet to see them here in the states. Ebay sells them but who pays Ebay prices?!?! Happy art supply hunting to you! 🤗🤗
It's not easy to have the same colour you put at the beginning on the notebook 🤔 but you are an artist who is used to with mixing colours 😊 a very nice afternoon Cheryl 😘 as usual class the result 👍 bisous
I love trying something new and these new art supplies are like wings for flying with! I love them! And thank you, dear Tina, for such very warm comments! Huge art - bird hug!!! 🥰🥰
Really very interesting this mix of colors. What sparkle! You book and share your secrets, it's very generous Cheryl, I really liked it, the sandpiper is really sublime. Thumbs up ! LyDia ♫♪♫
Hi TerraCotta, Birds are nature's wonderful creatures and you bring it alive on canvas. Small seawaves for background is stunning, too. 😍. I love colours mixing you used for this painting. Hug Hug🤍🌻
Many thanks, dear Nina! I had so much fun trying out these new paints, and think that gouache is just my style! The colors blend easier than with watercolors and they can be layered like acrylic .... oh such perfect fun! I hope you're having a wonderful Easter day and having some perfect fun too! Art hug, dear friend 🥰🥰
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta I painted with my daughter this weekend used acrylic just for fun hahaha... I am going to try gouache after I watched your review 👍😄
Great tutorial as always Cheryl. 💜 I love how you delve into the properties of the paints and was interested to see you painting entirely on gouache. Gouache is something I want to explore so this was a very useful tutorial. As you know I use vibrant colours so this was helpful. I don’t use black that often and have never used ivory black in anything. On the rare occasion that I used black in paintings it was always mars black which imo had a depth to it and richer. But hey I can’t comment on the gouache that way. Anyway, last but certainly not least, your painting of the Sandpiper is stunning. I love the build up of the feathers and the fluffiness and texture you achieved especially on the chest of the bird. Beautiful gorgeous stunning painting. Looking forward to your next one. 🧑🎨👏💜🎨😊
Oh we are both so agreed on the use of black! I rarely use it, pretty much only for eyes but when playing with this Ivory Black which is a rather weird "color" by itself, I learned a lot about pepping up a dull color and getting a little music out of it. And wow do I think you would love painting with gouache. It's not for everyone but we both love watercolor and acrylics and this is like a happy marriage of both! The easy application of color and liftability and some flow like watercolor and the wonderful ability to apply layers and build up color like acrylics! Just a spiritual experience! I think it may be my favorite medium to work with now, but the only downside in my opinion is that it has to given some care for framing like watercolor. Oh you will soooo enjoy it when you try it!!! That I can confidently guarantee! 🥰 🌺 🌹 🥰
Gouache is the perfect marriage between watercolor and acrylics! Really love how they can get blurry transitions easily and yet layer beautifully ... oh another "you must try"! Hahaha, that list is long for both of us! Thanks, Ann! 🥰🥰
interesting reds can be more pricey. With stained glass the red has gold in it and is more $$$ than other colors. Another great tutorial, thanks so much for all the great tips.
In ancient the reds were the hardest and most unstable colors, and also purple, which was why kings "deserved" it. Guess there's still a battle with stabilizing the natural reds. Ah well, I'm happy with green 😂😂 And thanks, Sherry! 💖
Good evening ! I am drinking coffee and browsing around after dinner. Thanks for your beautiful sharing! I wish your channel success and you have my big support! Have a good day❤️ I will def visit again some other days!
Hi i never got notified:(. So I love sandpipers. Love them. I have videos where they are hopping along in the ocean spray. This was so different for you. I love it. This is a more serious and real feeling. I just love this. I want to research this paint because you love all but 2 colors. Might be a good starter set. My daughter is a sketch artist. These feathers are amazing. Cheryl. I will share this with her. I think this is one of my faves of yours 😍😘🥰
Hi Lori!! Actually I'm now in love with gouache. It's like the perfect marriage of watercolor and acrylics, and I think your daughter may be enchanted with the medium too. Sennelier is a bit hard as yet to get in the States but I've heard that both Holbein and M Graham are stellar brands (I plan to try them out eventually). LOL, so you're whole family is steeped in art ... that does NOT surprise me. You're very creative with yours and that shell collection you showed ages ago is another form of creativity! Warm thoughts, Lori 🥰🥰
That's a lovely review of the gouache. How did you find it compared with acrylics? The colors look creamy. Absolutely beautiful background waves and the adorable bird. Super like the furs ❤️❤️❤️
Compared with acrylics? It's more like watercolor but opaque. The colors lift and blend easily and yet like acrylics they layer! Spiritual. The biggest downside is that like watercolors they have to have special protection to keep the dust off, and so acrylic is easier to mount, pack and hang on the wall in an instant. That said, I LOVE THEM!!! 🥰🥰🥰 So did that answer your question? 😄😄

Many thanks, J! And wow did I love this new medium. It's such a wonderful marriage of the easy smooth blending of watercolor and the layering of acrylics! I think you'd love it too since you like detailing in acrylics and the ability to paint with precision!
Love the red plus yellow, especially when added with white - awesome bird painting, the colors were perfect 😍👍👍
I don't like the red by itself but with the yellow and with the white, the color is a miracle for the eye! I find gouache the perfect medium actually and if you haven't tried it, oh yum, you will be enchanted I think!!! 🤗🥰
Wow😍awesome artwork as always! What a wonderful bird painting! Love your artwork😍you are an amazing artist!
Thank you so much, Artnav! 😀
Dear friend Cheryl! ^^
Gouache!
It's such a nice color!^^
Your delicate and kind teacher-like consideration is always impressive!
The snipe and the background go well together, ^^
Even when I first saw your picture, you drew a beautiful bird^^
The snipe I drew today was so realistically drawn as if it would fly away in no time!
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta 😁👍
Skilfully painted! Well shown and informative commentary . The result looks fantastic.
Thank you so much 😀
Amazing as always 🤩
Thank you! 😁
Great to hear your impressions of the gouache! Also super helpful to see you paint the Sandpiper with it - thanks!
@@AnnieTroe I love your helpful thoughts! I should varnish all of mine then, esp now that I have space to move! Thank you! 🤗
wow! This is a really fantastic painting.
That's great. Keep our meeting! 👍 103
Watch the video to the end.
Have a happy day today!
Thank you so much 😀
Great review of Sennelier gouache paint.
A wonderful lesson Cheryl .All these varieties between brown and grey have given splendid feathers . Not an easy task ! Bravo
🥰 Cheryl
Wow, that is so impressively gorgeous! That looks so amazing, brilliant job with this! Thank you so much for your awesome work! my new friend
Thank you so much 😀
Wonderful to see you working with Gouache. Lovely to watch you building the layers on the birds feathers. They really are beautifully rich paints. 🥰🥰
Yeah, but the red by itself isn't so nice to play with. Hugs to you and hoping to see more of your phenomenal art! Art hug, Jane 🥰
I have never painted in gouache, but I've been interested in painting in it. So your teachings on color mixing and color swatches are impressive and helpful to me. Thank you 😊 💓
The harmony between the beach and the sandpiper bird is very nice and beautiful!
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta Your words are so encouraging, TerraCotta! Your tips will be noted 💕 I will, surely do it 😍😍

Knut is a master photographer and he's proven that people don't need expensive equipment! And thanks for your wonderful comments on the sandpiper. I have to say that I'm now in love with gouache and am going out to find some different reds and blues to experiment with! Fun! 🤩🤩

It's beautiful Cheryl. Love your limited palette.
I hope you had a wonderful Easter
and enjoyed the Carrot Cake.
I didn't even know they made gouache! Beautiful painting 😍
Because the animal paintings are covered with hair, they have almost no blurring elements.🌌
Your excellent work has helped me.📝😊
Oh yes, Kei!
👍
Thanks, Mark, and I guess you could call gouache watercolor. It's certainly a cousin, but if you ever want to try a medium that marries watercolor and acrylic, it's gouache. This is my first time to paint only with the medium but it blends and reactivates easily like watercolor yet layers like acrylic. Spiritual! 🥰
And I just looked up reference photos for the western meadowlark before I committed myself. Apparently we have the eastern version here in MI but I'd love to paint the other. So what is your medium of choice - watercolor, gouache or acrylic? 🤩 I found loads of information on the bird, which sadly seems to be on the decline along with many birds of late. This will be fun! 😄
This is so nice and very amazing Bird Painting Great sharing my Friend. Keep up the good work. Have a nice day. L3

@@NinaArtLife I think you'll love them! They're much easier to use than watercolor .... it'll be a spiritual experience 🌺
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta you’ve sold me onto gouache. I like the look of how it layers 😀🎨😀🎨😀 Happy painting 🧑🎨

Awesome. Beautiful art work. Nice video. I'm cheering with my thumbs up.

Great painting my friend hope you had a good Easter.
It was wonderful, and thank you! 🤗
interesting reds can be more pricey.

@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta Interesting to know about this paint. Thank you for answering my queries. :D 😄
