Yes, I think it's not higher rated by most because they decided to go the route of watching it dubbed. The film just doesn't work in dub - the Japanese language, particularly in the translation of 'Country Roads' is so damn important. I adore this film, but you have to watch it with subtitles to get the authentic feeling the film deserves!

The cat bus is a "death coach" so no I don't want to NEED a cat bus until I'm very old. It is piloted by a shinigami and has a close relationship with the spirits in the film because of it's purpose. In the end it escorts the girls to death with their mother soon to join them.

      *essay coming*
okay look- i get that, but uh- When Marnie Was There left me with so much confusion, the story was... interesting, yet everything else just kinda felt dull. probably because im more into action and that was barely shown, and as well as there was this lesbian incest vibe coming from the two, although that could easily just be them being so close. Anna and Marnie had a great story, but i wouldnt put it in my top 10, probably rate it a 4 out of 10 if movies like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are rated 10/10. When Marnie Was There is so boring compared to Howl's Moving Castle. It lacked many things, like why were the relatives of Anna so laid back, like wouldn't they at least look for her instead of leaving her outside? like, shes 12. Anna disliked her adoptive mother because she found out that she was only getting paid for it, where as if she wasn't her adopted daughter, she wouldn't get paid. Why is that a reason to dislike someone that has raised you? it was all very confusing. I wouldn't say it is trash, yet i wouldn't say its gold.

I am Japanese. When I was a child, I used to watch Ghibli films thinking that they were mysterious and very interesting stories. But when I watched them as an adult, I was moved to tears by the care and effort of the characters, which I did not notice when I was a child. I think the charm of Ghibli films is that they can be enjoyed regardless of age. Sorry if my translation is poor.

I think part of it is that the English dub is lacking a little bit, particularly for the little girl. It's not that the voice actress does a poor job, but I can tell that its an adult trying to play a child. At times the voice is distracting to me during some really depressing scenes and it doesn't let me just take in the moment.

I think I love Ghibli movies so much because of the environment of which I'm raised in.
Growing up, my parents would have a few Ghibli classics for me to watch( Spirited Away DVD broke and it would stop halfway through the movie, but that didn't stop me from watching it in music class though), and I love them. Because of how the environment I'm raised in will tell legends from our own culture, when I watch Spirited Away in class, I wasn't scared by the spirits in the movie and ended up falling in love with Kohaku much like how Chihiro falls in love with Kohaku, and this was true for all of the girls in the school who watched the movie at the same year as me.
I did a rewatch with my little sister and she's really scared right to the very end while I was like "Did you see how Kohaku's eyes sparkled OMG he's so handsome." and my little sister was looking at me like "How can you be thinking of how much you love the 2D boy in this movie when this is so scary." lol.

For me "when Marnie was there" was the best. I am aware that's only my opinion however and an unpopular one at that

Howls Moving Castle is my personal favorite. Spirited Away is tied with Kiki's Delivery Service (but the is because Kiki was the first Studio Ghibli film I ever saw so it holds a special place in my heart).
