Please do a spoiler review if you can!
Knock knock🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
More like Tik tok with theses bad musical numbers 😂😂😂
Wow! People actually walked out? That's wild. Another critic said the movie was completely unnecessary & they loved the first movie.
Great review man! This is probably a clear example of a studio just trying to make an unnecessary film just because the previous one did and giving the director too much creative freedom.
Appreciate it and yeah they should’ve left the sequel alone
I'm seeing it this weekend. I am more open to this not really being a comic book movie and being a more experimental film from Todd Philips. I'll just give it an honest shot with an open mind but I can understand why all the musical sequences might annoy people.
Definitely let me know your thoughts after you’ve seen jt
Same
I will admit, the musical interludes were a bit much and I could have done with two or three less, but what I found amazing was the way they performed it. Given what those scenes symbolized, they were perfectly reflecting the brokenness.
Imo it was as amazing as the first joker. Some idiot said the musical numbers didn't mean anything but that's because ppl aren't paying attention
@@jerzyghost72 Absolutely agree. They were bold enough to not only include music/performance numbers, but also let them sing and dance in a non-perfect way, because it reflected Arthur‘s state of mind.
Joker: F@cked Up, Dude! 😀
Lol
This movie feels like it didn’t know what it wanted to do other then tear down the Joker character
You can also tell that this movie was made by someone who didn’t know how to make a musical.
And I enjoyed parts of the music in the courtroom but honestly it should have stayed there since at the core of the movie it’s also the trial of the Joker
And yeah the ending was/ will be decisive. People are going to be split on this thing and it was definitely a studio note 😂
Well said
They outta pocket immediately for charging $30 then the audacity for it to be bad lmfaooooo I really enjoyed the first joker but once I heard 2 would be a musical, I figured it wouldn’t be my interest lol
Lol
From all the reviews I have seen it should be called Joker - the joke is it's a 'Folie à Flop'!!
1:45 that’s crazy😅good thing I got AMC A-List
The Joker falls, but the Penguin rises to the occasion.
Penguin is awesome
I'm taking a chance on it tonight... just out of curiosity... my expectations were low from the time they announced it, considering they never wanted to make a sequel anyway 🤷🏾♀️
Your wasting your time
Hope you enjoy it
loved the first film. I am a DC comic girl - Alan Moore is my spirit animal - when I saw Joaquin do interviews after the first film, I saw that he didn't understand that JOKER, Batman etc... have been out here for decades and will continue on. From the interviews I felt he was disturbed that there were fans of JOKER - which hit me the wrong way. From what my friends have told me - this is Arthur and Leigh - not Joker and Harley - so I choose not see it. I have had friends over - we watch JOKER - then DARK KNIGHT (perfect double feature). Yes, I watch all genres of film BUT I am not watching a JOKER film - that is not a JOKER film.
Yeah it was a interesting read on the character that ultimately failed
Shame, because it actually reflects people with that mindset, and they are in a way the outcome of the movie. Joker is an idea. Anyone can take it on, deal with it for better or for worse, not everyone will agree with every individual interpretation of each Joker, but what will live on is the inspiration behind it - the shadow of Joker.
@@MovieFilesWell, I disagree. It showed the broken mind we hardly ever get to see when we look at the persona of the Joker. And funny enough, the audience in the courtroom had a similar reaction, when Arthur Fleck came to the surface. They don‘t want to see Arthur, they just want the Joker. Which is why Arthur was left to die, and his shadow lived on.
It was actually quite brilliant, and a more than valid step to take this perspective for once.
I absolutely loved the first film. I went opening weekend to a matinee with my mask on , and enjoyed . I was disappointed when they announced they were doing a 2nd film, because I was afraid they might mess it up, and twist the 1st movie into a pretzel, and it sound’s like they did just that . I was nervous when it was announced it might be a musical, but I talked myself into believing it could work, knowing it would work better on Broadway as a musical not a 2+ hour movie .. Ive read the spoilers , and the ending, and the nail was put in the coffin.. Thanks for the honest review, I’m planning on catching it on streaming.
Yeah this film basically tears down the first one
@@MovieFilesplease do a spoiler review I would appreciate your thoughts .
@@onlyalisaawilliams I’m actually editing the spoiler review now 😊
9:06 I kept anticipating the musical part would turn into something like Takashi Miike's 2001 The Happiness of the Katakuris, because if you've seen it, the musicals were each different and thematic, and I'd guess Joker's brain functions more like that movies musical element and not sooooo one dimension. There are good one dimensional musicals, like Aronofsky Black Swan, but then Joker would need to dance as Arthur sometimes to make a distinction...
Well, all of that did happen. And the musical parts all reflected Arthur‘s state of mind at the respective moment.
It was an amazing movie, best one I’ve seen all year.
I can understand everyone who didn‘t like the first one to not be into the sequel either, but anyone who did - it makes no sense to complain it not be a regular action packed comic book adaptation.
The whole plot was foreshadowed in the cartoon at the beginning. This is not a movie about a man named the Joker, because Joker is not a person. It‘s an idea, a „shadow“, that can in a sense be anyone who is crazy and self-destructing enough to sacrifice themselves for it.
Arthur was the one who created this idea and who was destroyed by it in the end, while the idea lived on. We primarily saw the tragedy of Arthur Fleck, and the development of the shadow character only second. It was absolutely magnificent. Sad, hurtful, but great.
As for Harley: She is exactly what she‘s supposed to be, a shell, a perpetual follower and henchman to the Joker. Not the man, the idea.
And the musical parts were also perfect, because they were taking place in Arthut Fleck‘s broken mind, thus his singing was also mainly broken, depending on how he felt. I will admit, that the number of musical interludes was a bit high and dragged the plot a bit, but all in all, it fit.
Just finished watching it, it was perfect
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for your review. I said that it would be either brilliant or horrible based on the premise . I have no intention of watching this one. They should have just left it at the one movie.
Appreciate you watching and I don’t blame you for skipping out on this one
Don't listen to online ppl, this movie was amazing. I won't ruin the end but it makes sense
The ending was extremely offensive and made the first movie completely pointless. This movie was a slap in the face to the fans who got invested in the first movie, bought the movie in DVD and digital, etc. Todd Phillipps should've just left the original Joker movie at a standalone one and done movie, but he got greedy.
Why? The first movie ended on the ambiguous note that all might have been in Arthur Fleck‘s head. The second one continued that path.
@@DrDeadsy42 because it ended perfectly with us thinking that Arthur had become the Joker at the end of the movie and embraced the role. He gets killed at the end of part 2 by his cell mate, who they show is the true Joker.
@@mattgarciatx No, there is no true Joker. Joker is an idea, created by Arthur, which continues to live on through whoever take it up as their personality, until it consumes them, too. Watch the cartoon at the beginning.
@@DrDeadsy42 yes, I’m a comic book guy, and I completely understand the whole “idea” concept, just would’ve been nice if they left the first story alone and left us believing the Joker and a young Bruce Wayne crossed paths and Joker and Batman were born on the same night.
@@mattgarciatx I am a comic book guy, too, but I can accept and even enjoy a movie that takes a different perspective on the matter, especially if they treat it seriously. All the movie did was to say: Let‘s just have this artificial persona stay back in second row and focus on the human behind the mask, what would he look like. As it has happened in comics before. The persona still exist, but in Joker‘s case it‘s not bound to one person. Which actually reflects the development of the Joker throughout the decades and media perfectly. Unlike Batman, who is bound to Bruce Wayne, the Joker is not bound to Arthur Fleck, and it in fact explains why the Joker is Batman‘s greatest foe, because it is an idea, not a person, and as such it can (in a sense) switch its hosts. Anyone can become the Joker, as long as they are chaotic and self-destructive enough.
The first one was great, a masterpiece. Sucks that the second one is trying to tarnish that
I disagree. The second one continued the idea of the first one.
Yeah it’s a bummer for sure
I loved the first film, but the reviews are really tempting me to skip it. I had SOME optimism that Todd Phillips had some fresh ideas for the sequel.
Fair enough! You may enjoy it.
“I went to see a Joker movie but all I saw was a fokin’ clown.” -The Penguin (Oz Cobb)
Nice
Every movie reviewer i have watched about this film has said the same thing that this movie didn't know what it wanted to express to the audience and that it thought it was smarter then it really needed to be.
I am a bit disappointed because I haven't seen the first Joker movie but I was going to watch it so i could see movie 2, because of Lady Gaga's addition but ugh. lol But I probably wont lol.
What I will say is a good movie is, "The Wild Robot"!
Wild robot was so good
I personally didn't like the ambiguity of the first movie, but even though this sequel fixes that, I don't know if there's enough in here to really put it on my list to see. 😐
It’s not worth it
TOTALLY agree with what you liked about it, and I have to say there's really a lot to love about this movie, especially Joaquin Phoenix obviously!! HOWEVER ... maybe I would have liked it more if I had known it was a musical, but Todd PhiIlips had insisted that it wasn't, but rather a film with a "some" numbers musical... sounds awesome to me!! I admit I really loved it the first time they sang, the second time only 5 minutes later I was surprised but ok no problem, the third time only 5 minutes later I slumped a bit in my chair, the 4th only 5 minutes after that, I literally groaned out loud!!🤦♀ 4 songs throughout the entire film would have been perfect but this was too much!! But even worse, they totally wasted, but WASTED Lady Gaga... apart from singing, she did nothing, nothing at all!!! Yeah and Harvey Dent was beyond awful!!!
Little SPOILER!!
And just when I thought Awesome! something is finally going to happen in this movie and we are going to have the Joker wreak havoc on Gotham and becoming one of Batman's greatest enemies... nada rien niente!!! What a disappointment in the end!!!🤦♀🤷♀
Maybe I'll like it more the next time I go see it because I won't be expecting the comic-book Joker that quite obviouslyTodd deliberately did not give us!!
Btw you can just google the pronunciation of deux and click on the little speaker icon to hear it, 'cause it sure ain't doo!!!
Well the fact that you're going to see it again is a positive
If you‘re watching it again, pay attention to the cartoon at the beginning, it explains everything.
This, like the 1st movie, is not your average comic book adaptation. It is about a broken man that gets consumed, overthrown and left to die by his shadow, i.e. the persona he created. It shows us the turmoil of the human being that, out of his own brokenness, created an idea that, in the end, became bigger than himself and disposed of him. Arthur Fleck is not the joker, he inadvertently created him.
Harley is an empty shell who, like his fans on the street, only wants Joker, not Arthur, so she drops him as well. She likely will attach herself to the next man who takes up the mantle of the Joker, until he crumbles, too.
I can understand if people feel uncomfortable with this perspective of the story, but it is wrong to say the movie was bad, just because they did not like to see Arthur‘s drama. These people were part of the movie and didn’t even realize it!
@@DrDeadsy42 Well yeah I got all of that on the first viewing, the opening sequence is extremely obvious as are all those themes you mentioned plus a couple more, since Todd Phillips continually hits us over the head with them again and again!!! Except I can't agree that Lee is an empty shell, but rather a shallow spoilt rich girl looking for excitement who is turned on by the idea of violence, an obsessed fan-girl in love with the image!! None of the themes were explored very deeply, simply reiterated again and again and we didn't get to actually see the chaos Joker supposedly created, just told about it, nor any consequences for Gotham! I didn't say the film was bad , it's truly a beautifully made film and as I said there is much to love in it, nor did I feel at all uncomfortable with any perspective!! I did want it to be as rich, profound and as expansive as the first, which it certainly is not!!
@@bev9708 A fair point. While I personally felt different about the effects the movie had on me, I respect that you don‘t just trash it because it didn‘t have your favourite version of the Joker in it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and my French pronunciation is horrible
If you've never seen Joker 1 and are only going to Joker 2 for Gaga, is there enough Gaga in the movie to justify me risking my life to go see this movie or should I just watch it online and see if I still want to go see it in the cinema? I saw your review but I'm just in denial that how could they market this movie on the back of Gaga all to not have that much Gaga.
Nop, she only has like 10 minutes on screen
She’s not in it enough nor gets a lot to do in my opinion
I have always said there would be no in-between with this movie but I'm conflicted feeling 50/50 cause of my curiosity but ultimately with everything discussed in this video i will not be watching it
Yeah i was really looking forward to it
Im scared for this film and not in a good way.
I think it’s going to bomb
I remember Joaquin walking 🚶♂️ up on that stage to accept the best actor of the year award 🥇at the Oscar’s,what a fall from grace he’s taken since then.
Yep
Haven't seen a positive review yet! This movie is like a beautiful looking cake that tastes awful!
💯
I’m confused isn’t Harvey Dent and Bruce Wayne around the same age?? Bruce was still a kid in the first movie and in this movie Dent a adult, that don’t make sense
This movie takes place in a different „universe“, if you will. You should not expect a comic book adaptation, just like the 1st one wasn‘t.
After the first joker movie, i understood that any Batman lore wouldn’t apply to this particular movie. The use of dent in this movie was trash.
I feel like the fans play up the ambiguity of the first film too much. That movie was so heavy handed, the zaze misdirect was all there was as far as unreliable narrator imo
I havent seen this movie yet but if it plays into that at all yall can give yourselves a round of applause
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
“TF is this crap?” -The Penguin (Oz Cobb) watching Joker 2.
Lol
I just seen the film Gaga played the film absolutely perfectly the writing was really shocking and amazing the music was fluid and made well with the film and it's really good. To put it simply You don't understand the film and it's story it was not a bad film it did not have bad writing despite the courtroom scenes they could have looked at the law and order franchise to get more dramatised and better writing for that aspect 4 out of 5
Glad you enjoyed it!
What was the last rated R musical ?
Dicks: The Musical, last year
The frist was way better that's my opinion
💯
Well, no one's laughing now.
Lol
One of the worst movies of all time. Should've been joker coming to power. This was a disgrace.
This Joker simply was never meant to be a person who rises to power and takes on Batman.
One of the better joker films you mean it was really good
So you basically telling me that madam Webb is better?
Not of all time for me but definitely not good
Not Joker ❤️🩹
Unfortunately
I’m NOT going to waste my money on this crap, no sir, no mama ❗️I’m bored…. and with the joker. Saving my $40 and put it to something worthwhile.
Great decision
Sheesh, not one positive review.
It’s unfortunately a bad movie
I knew it was gonna be mid yikes 😳😂
I was hopeful but unfortunately….
I hated the first one , Joaquin Phoenix joker is boring, too "artsy" and nothing like the comics, soon as i seen them making a number two i knew it would be terrible
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts
You really aint saying any strong points as to why this film just rubbish.
I talked about the use of the musical, lack of character development and how the ending didn’t work but ok 👍🏾
