Sadly most of those packs aren't worth the price they're selling at because you can buy a lot of those cards graded for a little more, but I feel when you buy those packs you're buying the nostalgia and re-living memories. For instance, I absolutely love '94 Topps because my aunt got me a box of them when I was a kid and that meant I got to open up a TON of packs at one time. It was an amazing experience. Many of the cards aren't worth the current price, but I'd still pay to re-live that feeling all over again. Just like even opening up a pack of '88 Topps to find that Don Mattingly card I loved as a kid would be worth it even if the pack is priced a bit highly. The point is...this wasn't so much about paying for the actual cards; it was paying to re-live the experience. Just close your eyes and smell those cards and you're back to being a kid all over again.
How much FUN to go into a baseball card shop with all these packs available! Yes some are overpriced but when you hit a Gem mint you will not be complaining! Thanks for sharing with all of the pack junkies!!
Your mlb the show video reminded me of when i used to play nascar 96 as Jeff Gordon and would go opposite and run into other drivers and get a black flag
My favorite player as a kid was Tony Gwynn and he’s the reason why the Padres are my favorite NL team.. of coarse the Red Sox were always #1 to me but always loved the Friars !!! Love that Tony Gwynn rookie , I have two psa9’s of that and multiple other rookies of him.. he was so good!! REST IN PEACE to the late Great Tony Gwynn!!!
Nice video of Dave. I was at a Tool concert recently. Everyone who had a camera out and was suspected of taking a picture or video got kicked out. Left and right. People kicked out. I was blown away. Awesome pack rip!! 🤯 Such a cool spectrum of wax.
Just got back from PSA a grade 10 2007 Topps Jeter with Mantle and Bush in the stands!! I couldn’t believe I got a 10! All my other cards came back 9 or lower. Got that 2022 Heritage Johnny Bench Postal Stamp card back as a grade 8. (The one you opened for me)
I’ve been to triple play a few times myself. Always been leery about the wax, but after seeing that beauty my mind has been made up for me! If you’re ever around that area about 25 miles south in Canton (home of the pro football h.o.f.) is a nice shop called Sports Archives. The owner Jim has been in the hobby since I can remember (1984ish lol) and is a straight shooter. These Card Shop videos are great!
93 Upper Deck and 93 Leaf were my two favorite sets of that era. Loved the look of both. 93 UD had those amazing pictures and was the first 'glossy' set, which we see is unfortunately a bad thing now with the sticking... thanks Jabs!
Nate I could not agree more!!!! Your the first person I have ever heard say that besides me. I have been saying since 93 that the Upper Deck set is one of the most beautifully designed sets of all time!! The pictures are absolutely phenomenal and ultra crisp and clear. You can see every grain of flying sand on a slide into third..for instance Rickey Hendersons card 136... What a pic..its like your right there. Super underrated set in my opinion. The plain white border frames the cards and set so well...JMO though.
@@kevinwillmore8278 love those cards, totally underrated set! I feel like this should be spoken about as an iconic set because that's what I remember feeling about it at the time. It stood out as a beautiful set at a time when every company was flooding the market with sets. To me it was the last full set flagship release worth having for the remainder of the 90s.
That 1991 Upper Deck pack had no chance of pulling the SP1 Michael Jordan since it was only inserted in low series boxes "Find the Nolan" and the pack you opened was a high series pack "Find the Hank" which the SP2 Nolan Ryan/Rickey Henderson was inserted in.
O’Neil Cruz is the truth and I been standing by that statement since his first showing as a prospect!! Kid is a stud, if ppl dont like him or believe in him.. that’s fine… more O’Neil Cruz for me lol send em my way!!
Was in Las Vegas for Cisco Live! last week and DMB played a private show for the conference at the Thomas & Mack Center. Not a huge DMB fan, but it was a great show and the band is very talented. Thanks for the entertaining videos.
I had some friends at that Blossom show and was at Triple Play Vintage last Friday. Picked up 5 wax boxes from the $10 table. I stay away from the wall of danger by the register. Some pricy stuff on that side.
re: the gum just a spitball guess, but I'd say it was a weird manufacturing snafu that quality control didn't catch. That or the cards were once stored in some kind of weird environmental situation where the gum kinda deformed and hardened awkwardly. But probably the former. We'll never know.
An. IDEA/SUGGESTION If your customers like this break. You should buy a box or two of each and do a “THROUGH THE YEARS WITH JABS” type of box. Cool thing for collectors and nice way to make some money.
Pete Incaviglia did have some pop and struck out a lot but most people don’t know that In 1999, Pete Incaviglia was voted as the NCAA Player of the Century by Baseball America, beating out Bob Horner and Robin Ventura. He had one of the most amazing college careers ever. Interesting.
This was really neat video - Though I too think some of the prices were a little high, still pretty neat getting to see some of the packs from my childhood ripped...Appreciate the great content as always Jabs!
Sorry jabs but if the mlb hall of fame ever puts in clemens or bonds or big Mac then in my opinion Pete rose deserves to be in. He paid the price and how about putting in Roger Marris or former Yankees catcher Thurman Munson that's just my opinion
Stickers were always a better insert than gum and that's why I've always liked fleer better than topps. A lot of donruss designs are on my all time favorite list though
Love this break Erik! Showing my age but first pack ever opened was 1982 Topps. Grew up opening all these packs. Thank you for the break and variety of packs. Good stuff!
Those prices are quite a bit askew in my opinion but I suppose for the 84 Donruss if BBCE is indeed selling them for 1K a box and there's 36 packs in a box then 30.00 isn't that far off the mark. The owner is really only making 80.00 profit and that's not factoring the sales tax in PA if you include that.
Wanted to say thank you! Watching your videos every day has been a great way for me to relax and destress from a very rough time in my life recently Keep making the awesome content and best of luck!!
I pulled the Ripken FF error card in a box I bought when I got back in the hobby pre-pandemic. I can only imagine parents freaking out if a major card company made the same mistake now. Yikes! 😮
You should have submitted that Gary Ward to PSA for grading with the gum stuck to it and see what they would have done. It would make an amazing video reveal.
People talking about value return. This type of rip isn’t always about the “Value”. There’s a to. Of nostalgia with it. To see 30 plus years of cards being opened is pretty awesome. Yes. There isn’t a lot of value but at same time it’s all relevant. Most box/pack openings will only get you 10-15% value in return. There’s always the chance to hit the “big cards” but usually takes alot of luck and a few prayers. You gotta be in it to win it tho. Overall this is an awesome Rip for a Collector or someone getting into the hobby to experience the history with cards
Agree on the nostalgia, but thats not worth $400 plus dollars. For $400 dollars Eric should do a show on crashing Ebay with a $400 dollar budget and see how many PSA 9 of that era of wax RC's he can get. I bet, (because i do it) that he could get over 20 PSA 9 RC's depending on who he targets. Now that would be a great show. Jack can sponsor it and Eric would have 7 days to target as many quality RC's from that era he can get for $400 which would include the shipping. I know he could get 20, and with the grading prices today at $30..That would be a steal.
@@kevinwillmore8278 I agree on a lot of that as well. Tons of great deals out there. Especially with 9’s and the cost of grading. Why ppl are so down on 9’s blows my mind. As a collector. It shouldn’t matter much. Bc honestly. No ones telling a difference between a 9 and a 10. Guarantee a lot of the 9’s and 10’s can go either way depending on the day of the week lol. Only reason I like that pack opening compared to the buying slabs is the fun of it. The chase etc. but for a value standpoint, buying the cards is always the smarter money play. Just not as fun for some.
Very cool, I remember opening lots of these throughout the years. Glad to hear you like Dave. I find him a little boring myself, I prefer Govt Mule or Widespread Panic. Right now BILLY STRINGS is the GOAT! Check him out.
If I was selling retro cards packs I would not sell them until I checked them for the valuable cards. For example why would I sell a pack of 90 Topps for $30 if we know the frank Thomas no name could be in the pack worth alot more then $30 a pack that would just be a bad business decision not to check the packs first for the gold gems and then sell them just saying. But I would never sell cards or collect cards it has no value to me but you would be dumb not to check for the big money cards first?
I just bought a 3 card lot of 2011 bowman gold rookies of freeman , Rizzo, and Goldschmidt for 11.50$ in auction on eBay , probably the best deal I’ve ever had 👍

The ‘84 topps pack was searched, probably put together using commons, empty wrappers, and a slab of bubble gum tape
Bubble tape makes sense. That's how it pulls apart too.
The price of these packs seems out of whack. Take 1985 Topps for instance. You can outright buy the McGwire, Clemens, and Puckett for $20.
True, but if you pull a perfect version of one of those cards and get it graded at a 10 it's worth a lot more than $20.

I rember well when he was suppose to be the next big thing
I think the reason why the gum is misshaped like that in that Topps 84 pack is because it could have melted.

Love the 1994 Flair cards. Regarding the price of those packs; a lot of those unopened packs are hard to find, while the cards inside are not.
Keep doing junk era cards, love watching and big collector of era for error cards and rooks
Thanks for the look at the old stuff, I love to go through the vintage packs

It looks like that 84 Topps pack had what we used to call ABC gum. Already Been Chewed
Man I wish I had a LCS like that, my "LCS" only sells overpriced retail that I don't even bother visiting anymore...
That ‘84 gum made the entire purchase worthwhile. Gwynn was only a runner up. 😂

Cuyahoga Falls Ohio - home of the old Deriums, Card Shop Life series
Those 93 Score Select cards are trampoline photos lol
The 83 Gwynn is easily a keeper. Nothing wrong with the back at all. Centering issue on the front top to bottom, but the rest of the card is pristine.
PSA 8 at best with that 70/30 top/bottom centering. How much does a PSA 8 Gwynn go for?
HoJo went 38/30 in '91, capping off a 3rd 30/30+ season, so that's probably why he was "Best Athlete"
How about Gary Ward being the last 84 Topps card with the weird gum on it then being the first card in 85 Topps?! Your brother would call that an omen
You should have submitted that Gary Ward to PSA for grading with the gum stuck to it and see what they would have done. It would make an amazing video reveal.
I would have spent it all on GPK's lol, thanks for sharing!
The gum was like that because they resealed the pack with an iron
I've seen Dave 4 times.good shows
I clicked "Like" before you started ripping :)
I love the vid. I don’t like the price. 12yr old mike would be outraged lol
When did junk wax become "vintage"?

Surprises me that '81 Topps costs more than '82. There are more potential hits in '82.
"Vintage" cant be starting with late 80s and early 90s.....has to be early 80s and older....mainly because it makes me feel old.
Kudos great video of a trip down memory lane.
And good luck with future pulls.
Greetings from the UK.
How about Cruz and Madris last night, Erik???
