Tried this today. You are right. It’s going to save a tonne of time! My wife was also ‘thrilled’ at tea time to hear about the nuances of the G30 code 😶🤣. Double win! 🤣🤣 Cheers James from North Yorkshire. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for another great tip James. I have been using the XoYo setting on the offline controller and then Go to XoYo after each bit change. However, this zero position has been lost if the power has been accidentally turned off or after a job failure. Having the G30 command as back-up is a good idea to reset the model position.
Thanks for this JDD !! You have no idea how much better G30 is going to make my laser PCB fabrication. I have been manually writing down my start position for laser jobs..... Like a caveman !!!!!
This why I watched your videos. I remember it was from you that I learned how to note down my work coordinate after I homed the machine so it can be used to get to the job coordinate if something happen during the job run. I think this will complement that approach. I'll certainly play around with this G30 code. Thank you very much.
It is a good code to use to save your start position of your xyz. I use it if I have multiple tool paths or tool change and run out of time to finish a project. Then I can resume later.
Another great video James, I've been writing down the machine coordinates to get back to the position on my jobs, this will make my life so much easier, your a diamond geezer thanks 😊
@@JamesDeanDesigns Still love this TIP - But (there is always a but) I just realized that it does not work with GRBLHAL. I had to switch to GRBLHal for my longmill to solve some other problems and the G30 stopped working. Is there an alternative? Thanks again.
@ No worries - Ive been using the g30 a lot and it has helped my workflow quite a bit. Support had me switch to grblhal and now I get an error. Could be other things but thats the only thing I changed. Ill look there as well. thx
@alexandersievewright3842 there is g28 and g54-58 in think off the top of my head. There are some differences between how they can be used but all very similar
Hi James, sorry for the off subject question but could you point me in the direction of a laser that I can put on my 4040 pro please…. I’ve looked everywhere, sainsmart don’t seem to ship the lasers to the U.K. really want to expand my capabilities with a laser and for the moment a second machine isn’t an option. Thanks in advance and thanks for the vids you make, opened a up a whole new world to me 👍👍👍
as well as G30 etc, typr in $# and see what is returned. PRB: The location where you last probed your CNC G54 : you didn't set it but it's your last Zero'd XYZ location
On my 3018 i have no limit switches. Can I perform a manual home before the G30 commands? I have a simple home point marker fitted so I can reliably find Home manually.
Even 3018 without limit switches can be manipulated with a keen eye & finger reflexes. Manually jog to absolute end of travel, eg Front, Left, High. just touching frame. Press the reset button on the controller. That will reset Machine coordinates to Zero. You can apply the G30.1 command. And recall it with G30. When creating macros, ensure you select Machine Coordinate system G53. You can then apply G30, G54 - 59 etc
I am new. Doing lots of experimentation. I have found myself wanting to adjust settings in the middle of a job, to see what the difference might be. If I hit the stop button on my UGS, and type in the G30 command in the console, can I then edit the toolpath, (maybe changing the stepdown or stepover) making the changes I'm curious about, and resume the job at the point where I used the G30 command ???
Thanks for this tip, seems to be very useful. I'm thinking about adding G30.1 to multiple points in a long program, so if the cutting fails for any reasons I don't have to restart the whole program from the start but only from the last checkpoint that has a known position saved. Can it be used for that or is there a more suitable command for this purpose?
This is great info. Thanks. One question to make sure I understand. If I lock down a piece and set a zero point for that piece this will be valid until I move the piece? And I need to have limit switches installed?
@taaviliiv5904 G30 is basically just telling your machine to remember a certain location. So if you always start your jobs from the exact same position, then no you only need to do it once. If you start in different positions each time, then yes, do the G30 command before starting each job
James I have just bought a foxalien masuter pro. I have watched all your vids but can't find one that explains the very basics. I have opened Easel but have no idea what I have to do with g codes, have drank numerous bottles of wine trying to figure this out, but failed, can you help as the Mrs is fed up of all the swearing coming from my room and recycling empty wine bottles.

@atienne_navarre hmm... usually they add extra options but don't take them way. Let me look into this as I've just installed the SLB myself
@atienne_navarre so a few articles would still suggest g30 and g28 are working and the same but I'll try and test myself

Yes that's correct. As long as you don't move the material, this method will always take you to the start position and yes you need limit switches 👍
Thank you for another amazing video! I really want to start CNCing some aluminum can you suggest the best desktop setup for that?
For aluminium, your probably looking at the 3030 Pro Max or the 4040 Pro Max from Sainsmart. They are the most rigid vs size and cost at the minute
Hi if i start a completely new job, do i need a new G30 gode, if i understand correctly G30 is job start position coordinate code.
